Negima!? Kyoto Character

EISHUN KONOE  近衛 詠春
Konoka's father and the chief of the Kansai Magic Association. Despite his last name, he is not from the Konoe family as he actually married into his wife's family, with his birth family suggested as being the Aoyama Family. Before the Kyoto Arc, both the Kansai and the Kantō Magic Associations had a feud. This was because Kansai mages did not approve of Kantō mages using Western-style magic instead of Eastern-style magic. In order to ease the schism between two sides, Konoemon Konoe, who was the head of the Kantō Magic Association, made an arranged marriage between Eishun and his daughter. With this, the overt hostility ended. However, a few in Kansai (e.g. Chigusa Amagasaki) continue in their aversion to Kantō and/or Western mages. Despite the attitude of Kansai mages towards the west, Eishun became best friends with a powerful Western mage, Nagi Springfield, the Thousand master. Nagi, Eishun, Takahata, Albireo, Gateau, Jack and one other, who were Nagi's comrades-in-arms, fought in a magic war that involved both mages from the East and West twenty years ago. Rather than being a mage, Eishun is actually a Shinmei-ryū swordsmaster. He has battle scars on his body from that war. Even after Nagi's apparent death in 1993, Eishun has still kept Nagi's holiday house clean. Eishun's name is a direct Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese Kung Fu style Wing Chun, in spite of the fact he has yet to demonstrate any skill in martial arts. The sword he used during his days with Nagi is the same nodachi that Setsuna currently uses, Yuunagi(The carving of the sword's name was seen in volume 19).

Character Design
Eishun never told his daughter Konoka of her magical background because he wanted his daughter to have a normal life. However, seeing that many in the Kansai Magic Association knew about the great (and dangerous) magic potential in Konoka, Eishun sent his daughter away to Mahora Academy under the care of his father-in-law. Several years after sending his daughter away, he sent Setsuna to guard his daughter. After the events in Kyoto, he asked Evangeline to tutor Konoka in using her power. In spite of being a gentle and kind man, Eishun's character designs bear an uncomfortable similarity to that of Ikari Gendo's from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Also, because of his connection to the Shinmei-ryū, fans speculated he might be a relative of the Aoyama's from Love Hina (a speculation that continues to grow after the Ala Rubra drama CD revealed that Eishun's original surname was Aoyama).

CHIGUSA AMAGASAKI  天ヶ崎 千草
Named after one of Ken Akamatsu's staff members, is an onmyōdō charm user from the Kansai Magic Association. She was the one responsible for causing trouble at beginning of the school field trip. She has very large breasts, and tried to prevent Negi from giving his letter to the chief of Kansai Magic Association, because she does not want relations between the Kansai and Kantō Magic Association to improve. Chigusa was the one who tried to kidnap Konoka due to the powerful magic potential that the young girl had. She bears a grudge against Western mages, because her parents were killed in the great magic war that both Eastern and Western mages fought in twenty years ago. She planned to have her revenge against the Western mages by summoning the demon god "Ryōmen Sukuna-no-Kami", and the only way to do so was to gain control of Konoka's vast magical reserves. Despite having the ability to summon warrior spirits and creating shikigami, she also enlisted the help of three mercenaries to help in her plan. She was successful in summoning the demon god using Konoka's magic, but Evangeline defeated the demon easily. As a result, Chigusa's plan failed. She tried to escape but was captured by Chachazero, and is now under the custody of the Kansai Magic Association.

RYOMEN SUKUNA NO KAMI
An ancient demon summoned by Chigusa near the end of the field trip arc. Negi attempts to defeat it using Jovis Tempestas Fulgariens but the spell failed to even penetrate its magical barrier it was then destroyed by Chachamaru and Evangeline using a barrier piercing shot and the ice spell Kosmike Katastrophe respectively.

TSURUKO AOYAMA  青山 鶴子

The eldest daughter of the Aoyama family; head family of the Shinmei-ryu school of swordsmanship.
She is the current master-swordswoman of the school, which is charged with the protection of the Kyoto Magic Association.

Appearances

Possessing a somewhat eccentric personality, Tsuruko is ethical and tolerant, to a point. She was brought up to follow traditional Japanese morals of the warrior class; meaning to follow obligation, politeness and duty. As a result she seems to be somewhat naive to the “ways of the modern world”, even more so than her sister and is relatively easy to fool. Her righteous temper is perhaps what makes her dangerous, able to intimidate that strongest of individuals while still appearing pleasant. Her appearance and clothing resembles that of traditional Japan, often only seen wearing her hakuma during Shinmei-ryu affairs, though she does sometimes wear more modern clothing. Her hair, too, is usually just worn straight in a traditional Japanese cut.
Tsuruko is strong willed and difficult to sway when she has made up her mind. Her knowledge and skills with the Shinmei-ryu arts are unparalleled; being one of the most powerful swordswomen in the style’s history.

Plot

Manga
As head of the Shinmei-ryu school, Tsuruko trained Setsuna on occasion; teaching her about the Hina Blade (having presumably loaned it from the Urashima Family for the lesson) and accidentally becoming possessed by it in the process.
Tsuruko also seems to be one of the Shinmei-ryu representatives who brought Setsuna Sakurazaki to the Kansai Magic School to be Konoka Konoe’s private bodyguard.
