APPEARANCES
Yuuki has large brown eyes and as her years as a human, has short dark brown hair. After Yuki returns to being a pureblood vampire, her hair grows out to be more than twice as long as it previously was and she possesses a more mature look, resembling her mother. Her body also becomes more perfectly proportioned. Yuuki has grown taller considerably over the year.PERSONALITY
Yuuki is generally a cheerful and comedic girl. She is considered a poor student because she dislikes studying and falls asleep in class, reason being she stays up all night monitoring the school grounds and night students. She exhibits a strong attachment to her close friends. Her indecisive nature and reticence can be attributed to her insecurity regarding her missing history. As a human, she feared all vampires (because of a vampire that attacked her when she was little) except for Kaname Kuran, because of this fear she rarely left the Cross Academy grounds on her own. Yuuki doesn't like to reveal her fears and disguises it with a smile over her face.
Following her re-awakening as a pureblood vampire, Yuuki shed the fears she once retained, when a situation asks, she can put in an authoritative face as is expected for a pureblood princess. Yuuki's overwhelming fault is the tendency to burden herself with guilt over her ignorance when she learns the sufferings of other characters that they have kept secret.
Yuuki's favorite subject is Physical Education and her favorite foods are the ginger pork stir fry set and parfaits.
STORY BACKGROUND
Yuuki was 5 years old when Rido Kuran attacked the Kuran household seeking to take her away. To protect her, Juri sacrificed herself to seal Yuki's vampire side and erased her daughter's memory. Yuuki's first memory is that of Kaname saving her from a level E vampire devouring her blood on a snowy day. She grew up as a human in the care of Kaien Cross, who also adopted her. Despite no longer remembering Kaname as her brother, he remained an important person in Yuuki's life, becoming her much beloved savior whose visits she always looks forward to, eventually leading for the teenage Yuuki to develop intimate feelings for him.
Despite having her memories sealed, as a child Yuuki experienced constant nightmares, a problem which continued nightly until Zero Kiryu joined the Cross household. As a result, Yuuki formed a strong attachment to the him. She found comfort in helping Zero with his personal nightmares and unofficially appointed herself as his guardian, entering his room nightly to make sure he slept soundly, and constantly worrying about his well being. Shortly after the arrival of Zero, another change occurred between Yuuki and Kaname's relationship. The closeness they once shared was lost after she witnessed Kaname feeding on a vampire classmate (Ruka), an act which both frightened Yuuki and reminded her the difference between humans and vampires. Now keenly aware of the futility of her feelings, Yuuki chose to distance herself from Kaname. Still, her admiration and longing for him remained. Furthermore as she grows and matures, Yuuki has to confront the secrets of the Purebloods (including Kaname) and her existence. It is noticeable that she looks exactly like her mother but had been implied to have the tenderness of her father.
RELATIONSHIP
Kaname Kuran
Kaname is Yuuki's admired savior, her pureblood brother, lover, fiance and ancestor. They have a long and complicated history. At times, it could be even viewed as mysterious which leads their relationship to be ambiguous.
Zero Kiryu
Yuuki and Zero were childhood friends, allies who became enemies and finally into an uncertain wary relationship as they both try to figure out where they stand.
Sayori "Yori" Wakaba
Sayori Wakaba is Yuuki's best friend and Yuki affectionately calls her Yori. Yori often worries about Yuuki and her prefect duties, telling her she needs to rest and jokes about her being a vampire due to Yuuki's sleeping habits. Yori knows that Zero has feelings for Yuuki and ask her about them, but Yuki most of the time has no idea what she's talking about. When Yuuki is reawakened as a vampire and vanishes, Yori is worried and tells Yuuki that no matter what they will always be best friends. She has also told Yuuki that she isn't scared of her despite Yuuki telling her that she could bite her.
Hanabusa Aido
Aido is Yuuki's antagonistic senior classman who is jealous of her relationship with Kaname. After Yuuki is revealed to be a Pureblood vampire, Aido ends up becoming her tutor and mentor. This is further enhanced to the status of protector as the series progresses.
POWER
Like all pureblood vampires, Yuuki has immortality and the ability to heal from anything with the exception of anti-vampire weapons to her heart or cutting off her head. Yuuki has demonstrated the following abilities, though most of her abilities are instinctual and uncontrolled:
Telekinesis, breaking windows on a few occasions when experiencing strong emotions.
Ability of flight using a pair of wings on her back made of blood that resemble butterfly wings
Ability to interfere with memory blocking through touch and includes breaking memory spells on herself.
Ability to wield anti-vampire weapons both as a human and as a vampire and transforms the Artemis rod into its scythe form, like her mother did.

Zero is considered attractive by a few Day Class girls though his natures scares most away. Shizuka Hiou stated after meeting him as an adult that he had become very handsome. Zero bears a tattoo, the Hunter's Seal, on the left side of his neck originally used to suppress his vampire side, later used to tame him. Zero is a casual dresser, usually wearing school uniform incorrectly with the vest and red tie exposed from under his black jacket and wears three silver earrings on his left ear (top) and 2 on his right (bottom). His hair is a pale, silvery white, and his eyes are pale lavender or amethyst coloured in the anime and are portrayed as even lighter in the manga.
PERSONALITY
Zero is generally a composed character, though occasionally he can act with coldness and hostility, especially towards Kaname. Zero is a gentle person though appears otherwise, he builds barriers around himself rather than opening up to Yuki. He has a kind heart and longs to protect humans and will never betray the one he holds dear.
As a child, Zero was a quiet and gentle boy, to the limit where Ichiru questioned whether or not he was even capable of being a vampire hunter. However after Shizuka's attack, Zero developed a strong distrust of vampires. Zero is a tsundere character, he sports a scary aura that makes most of the Day Class students wary of him, he can also glare in a way that even Kaname Kuran calls it scary. However, his innate nature is to protect humans, his cold attitude towards those he loves is likely to push them away and keep everyone at a distance. He also happens to be a stickler for details, as he doesn't consider himself as an adopted son of Kaien's family with Yuki, or holds all the details about how vampires and humans can be similar in their own ways. As told by Ichiru to Kaien, Zero's favorite food is vegetable soup.
Following his full awakening into a vampire, Zero harbors a great disgust towards himself because of inability to control his hunger and reliance on Yuki. His dismal outlook on his future and fear of what he might do causes him to give up and he almost kills himself with his anti-vampire gun, The Bloody Rose. He ignores his hunger to the point of starvation rather than go to Yuki. He tries to help Yuki resolve her own problems and then impresses upon her that its alright for her to burden and use him because she owns him.
Zero is hostile to the Night Class vampires when they threaten him, however he adopts his standard tsundere attitude when engaging them one on one retaining a level of civility. Zero expresses a great deal of anger toward Purebloods because of their mechanisms in his life in particular, he extends this hostility toward Yuki as well after she turns into a Pureblood vampire. In spite of this, his sense of duty overrides his issues ensuring his reliability and trustworthiness.
A gifted hunter, intelligent, athletic and good-hearted, Zero nevertheless has a difficult time thinking of himself or any vampire as anything but a monster. He struggles both with his desires for blood and lately, his equally strong desire to kill vampires. Because of all this, Zero can be very closed and sometimes difficult to understand or be close to, especially since he has a habit of not expressing his true feelings and hiding them behind a “tsundere” personality. He has a lot of attitude, is not at all impressed or easily controlled by higher class vampires and caries a positively burning hatred of all purebloods. He often acts as if he doesn’t care about anything in order to hide all the scars and hurts inside him that have nowhere to go. When not about his duties or in class, he can frequently be found in the Cross Academy stables with the fiery horse, White Lily, with whom he seems to share a special affinity. He is also quite a good cook.
HISTORY
Zero was born to a prestigious vampire hunter's family . Zero, along with his identical twin brother, Ichiru, and Kaito Takamiya, was trained as a vampire hunter by Toga Yagari who frequently looked after the twins when Zero's parents were out hunting. Yagari lost an eye protecting Zero, when the still naive Zero made himself vulnerable to ex-human vampire when the nurse turned wild and tried attacking Zero due to her Level E state. This was Zero's first lesson on the danger of seemingly innocent vampires, Zero promises Yagari that he will never regret losing his eye to protect Zero.
Four years ago, Zero and Ichiru found Shizuka Hio sitting in a tree, whom Zero recognised as a vampire and told Ichiru to stay away from her. A few days later Shizuka attacked his family, she bit Zero and she killed his parents, Zero passed out believing she had killed his brother as well.
After that attack Zero was taken in by Kaien Cross. Yuki approached him carefully and cared for him although he was cold and hostile at times to her. Zero kept his affection for her to himself due to her loving Kaname Kuran. Zero failed to reveal that he was going to turn into a vampire after Yuki revealed she was afraid of all other vampires. Over the next four years, the two became friends and constant companions, Zero acting as Yuki's "protector".
RELATIONSHIP
Yuki Cross
Yuki Cross and Zero Kiryu became childhood friends when Zero was sent to live with Kaien Cross after the murder of his parents by Shizuka. He has romantic feelings for Yuki, and despite the fact that she was actually a Pureblood vampire, he continues to care for her.
Ichiru Kiryu
Ichiru is the younger twin brother of Zero. Since they were twins born to a vampire hunter family, Zero and Ichiru were the cursed twins. However, now Zero has Ichiru's strength and skills inside him.
Shizuka Hio
The pureblood Shizuka Hio became Zero's master after she bit him the night of the attack on his family. She claims she did it because she knew Zero would grow strong and challenge her. Shizuka meets Zero again 4 years later at Cross Academy while disguised in the body of Maria Kurenai, though Zero recognizes who she really is. During a confrontation with Shizuka, she taunts him about being his master. Despite Zero's hatred of her for killing his parents, taking his brother away, and stealing his humanity, he finds himself unable to go against her commands, just as Shizuka claimed. Watching Yuki being threatened by Shizuka, Zero finally breaks free of her hold and manages to wound her. Shizuka escapes, but Zero is prevented from chasing her by a distraught Yuki, who'd previously realized that Zero had secretly intended to sacrifice his life killing Shizuka. Before allowing him to leave, Yuki makes Zero promise to return after taking care of Shizuka. However, to Zero's shock, by the time he reaches Shizuka, she has already been dealt the final blow by Kaname, who had been secretly waiting in the wings. Despite Kaname's guilt, Zero is blamed for her death by an angry vampire council.
Kaname Kuran
Zero disliked Kaname on sight recognising him as a vampire and has been his rival ever since. They are only tolerant of each other for the sake of Yuki Cross and Kaname can be often seen jealous of Zero when Yuki expresses care for him.
POWERS
Zero is a highly talented vampire hunter and possesses the standard abilities to sense vampires from a great distance, accelerated healing and in spite of being a vampire, also able to wield anti-vampire weapons. Since he became a vampire, Zero is able to distinguish purebloods from other vampires and has gained improved healing abilities. Kuran Kaname explains that after he eats Ichiru he would become the world's strongest hunter. He, then, explains that he has the blood of Yuki because she was a pureblood, Kaname and Shizuka was as well. After completing the fragment. Zero is able to transform the Bloody Rose into its evolved state, where it literally becomes a part of his body, however the cost is using a high amount of his blood.

APPEARANCES
He shares a similar appearance with Haruka and Rido Kuran. Like Haruka and Rido, Kaname has brown-reddish hair and dark red eyes. Like all vampires, he has a pale complexion. Kaname wears his clothes like a gentleman; his uniform is always prim, proper and perfectly buttoned. However, when he is wearing casual clothes, he is more careless about it, wearing more loose clothing usually not buttoned up completely. In her side notes, Matsuri Hino admits that this was a slight detail she accidentally overlooked.
PERSONALITY
He is normally a stoic and authoritative individual, but is very kind, warm, and gentle to Yuki. This disposition bothers both Yuki and the Night Class vampires, who do not understand his favouritism towards her. Kaname expresses occasional jealousy of Zero Kiryu because of Yuki's connection to him and is not afraid to show this to Yuki. He is very strict and often imposes discipline in a fierce way as being the dorm President, yet he is indulgent to Yuki. Kaname has acknowledged to Rido that he has a contrary nature, which leads him to both desiring to lock Yuki up and keep her to himself and alternatively, to watch her protectively while encouraging her to be herself. Kaname never hides the fact that he is not interested in anything else but Yuki’s welfare. Every action he makes is towards one goal, and that is Yuki’s safety; his greatest fear is losing her. He is very determined to have Yuki live for all of eternity by his side and not only deeply fears losing her because of the ten years she spent as a human, but because of the mysterious loss in his past. He is constantly solitary and plots as such also, making him rather secretive. Kaname has the pureblood power of controlling vampires, but he chooses not to exercise this power, thus earning the respect of the Noble vampires, as mentioned by Takuma Ichijo.
HISTORY
Kaname the Ancestor
Kaname is the ancestor of the Kuran family, one of the founders of vampires. Thousands of years ago, Kaname put himself into an eternal slumber and was recently awakened from his long slumber by Rido Kuran, his own descendent.
Revived Kaname
Due to his weakened state after reviving, Kaname transformed his body into that of a baby and supressed his memories entrusting his life to Haruka and Juri, who raised Kaname in place of the son that Rido had taken and killed. As children, Kaname and Yuki shared a close relationship, though Kaname was not especially outgoing around other children his own age. He first met Hanabusa, Akastski, and Ruka as children, but they did not form bonds with them until several years later, after the deaths of Haruka and Juri. Kaname severely wounded Rido during the attack on the Kurans, after he found he was to kill Rido as he was technically his master from having revived Kaname from his slumber. After temporarily dispatching Rido, Kaname took the now-human Yuki to Kaien Cross's house. Kaname himself was taken in by Takuma's grandfather, a man whom he mistrusted. During her childhood, Kaname frequently visited Yuki and remained a steady presence in her life. After Cross built the Academy, Kaien agreed to let Kaname decide everything that involved the school's vampires[3], Kaname lent his assistance in the creation of the Night Class and as a Pureblood, he helped maintain order in the Night Class, taking on the role of Night Class president. Kaname's presence at Cross Academy further allowed him to maintain contact with Yuki, though he left most of the responsibility of protecting and watching over her in Zero's hands.

Yuuki Cross
Yuki and Kaname have a complicated past that goes back to when they were children. Yuki is Kaname`s younger sister, fiancee and also descendent as his history was revealed.
The Hooded Woman
Main article: Kaname and the Hooded woman {C}She is the woman from Kaname's ancient past and also one of the ancestors or founders. It is strongly hinted that she is Kaname's ex-lover. Despite that, she sacrficed herself by tearing her own heart and throwing it into the furnace and from her blood created the first hunters.
Zero Kiryu
Kaname and Zero have disliked each other since their first meeting. One could say that they are archnemesis of one other due to different perspectives and methods. They both show very strong feelings to Yuki and envy each other from time to time. Due to this, they also share a limited amount of tolerance to one another when Yuki's safety is concerned.
Hanabusa Aido
Hanabusa is Kaname's loyal friend and right-hand man. Their relationship is quite comedic and purely adoration on Aido's perspective. However, this had become quite complicated due to Kaname killing Aido's father in front of him without explanation.
Takuma Ichijo
Kaname lived with Takuma after his parents died, they have became good friends since then. It would seem that Kaname trusts Takuma to a certain extent and also seems not to worry about him despite having Takuma with Sara.
Ruka Souen
Ruka both loves and admires Kaname however, he does not return her affections. Despite this, Kaname trusts and respects her. Ruka and Kain are the two Night Class vampires who Kaname chose to keep at his side and help with his plans after the death of Nagamichi Aido. It is also implied that Kaname and Kain had a deal that when the time comes, Kaname would have Ruka to leave his side even by force.
POWER
Like all pureblood vampires, Kaname is immortal and can heal from anything excluding an anti-vampire weapon wound to his heart or cutting off his head. Like all vampires he can absorb the powers from vampires whose blood he drinks. Kaname's powers have been listed as immeasurable . However in the manga, he has stated that when his mind wanders he "loses control", as seen when he accidentally burns a hole in the wall (in the manga) and a tree (in the anime), both barely missing Takuma, and also shatters a window. Ichiru has silver hair identical to his brother Zero, except slightly longer. He has pale lavender coloured eyes in the anime and pale grey coloured eyes in the manga. Again like his brother, he is seemingly very tall and slim in build. In the first season of the anime, he wears his hair down but in the second, he wears his hair in a small ponytail held back with a little pink string with a bell attached to it, which is a belonging of Shizuka Hio given to him by her.PERSONALITY
Ichiru is a complicated person marked by many conflicting emotions and actions. Very close to Zero as a child, he nevertheless struggled with the inevitability of being left behind by his brother and the strain of not being able to make it in the hunter world. He was complicit in Shizuka’s murder of his parents, but requested that Zero be left alive, but turned. Professing to both love and hate Zero at different times, Ichiru does not always appear to know his own mind on the subject, but his actions indicate that in whatever way, Zero was incredibly important to him. The only other person as important in his life was Shizuka Hio and he was heartbroken when she died.
BACKGROUND
Ichiru is one of the twins born into the Kiryu hunter family. Due to the Hunter's curse, most if not all of his hunter powers were absorbed by his brother, Zero, which subsequently gave the latter increased power. His parents were highly skilled Vampire Hunters.
PLOT SUMMARY
Shizuka Hio let Ichiru drink her blood to strengthen him and cure his chronic ill health, although she did not turn him into a vampire and he remains a human. He now attends Cross Academy as a Day Class student by the orders of Shiki's father, Rido Kuran (and by Zero's permission). It appears Rido has promised Ichiru that he will kill those who killed Shizuka, which is probably the main reason why Ichiru is working for Rido Kuran.
Ichiru told Zero to drink his blood.
When Zero was locked up by the Vampire Hunters Association, Ichiru visits him and appears to have shot him due to hatred. However, it is revealed that Ichiru was terribly wounded because he tried to kill Rido, the person he was truly after him because of his role in Shizuka's death. After he shot his brother, he convinces Zero to drink his blood so they could finally become one as they were originally supposed to be. Ichiru stated that he was happy that he wasn't dead in Zero's heart. When they hugged, he says that he feels comfortable to be in his arms, recalling a time when the brothers slept in the same bed often and were loved equally by their mother. After Ichiru's death, Zero appeared to grow vines, most likely from all of Shizuka Hio's blood that Ichiru has ingested to prevent his illness.
Zero buries him alongside their parents grave.
Ichiru appears to have romantic feelings for Shizuka Hio, even though she was the one that had massacred his family and turned Zero into a vampire. In a bonus chapter, while standing over Rido's coffin, he said, "Shizuka-sama was beautiful even when she fell"... He'd always begged her to turn him into a vampire but she always refused. Shizuka did not feel the same way, perhaps only because she was too heartbroken over her dead lover, but it can be seen that she deeply cared for him.

Zero Kiryu
Zero is Ichiru's older identical twin brother who
m he shared a close relationship when younger but hated him when he became older for the simple fact that Zero became a vampire and he didn't.
Shizuka Hio
The person he betrayed his parents and Zero for. She told him that if he lets her take revenge on his parents for her lover she will make his body become stronger. He agreed but it is later found out that he asked her to keep Zero alive. Ichiru served her as her butler and at some point it is pointed out that he loved her, despite the fact that she killed his parents and turned his brother into a vampire. Upon her death, she gives him a bell on a ribbon to which Ichiru proceeds to tie his hair up. Shizuka allowed Ichiru to drink his blood but refused to turn him into a vampire, much to Ichiru's dismay.
Maria Kurenai
Maria has a strong attachment to Ichiru and is quite fond of him, to the point where she persists in searching for him long after she has left the academy. It is not known whether Ichiru had any affection for Maria, he did however express concerns over her well being and chides her silly behaviour standing out in the sun.

Though Ichiru was born to an elite vampire hunter, Ichiru was a sickly child who was not strong enough to become a vampire hunter and possessed no talents.
Sayori "Yori" Wakaba 若葉 沙頼

Yori has short light brown hair, big hazel eyes and a cute appearance. Her outfits are usually very modest and feminine.
PERSONALITY
Yori seems to be one of the few girls who is not interested in the Night Class. She finds them a bit scary and stated that she would prefer someone from the Day Class. Yori is also very observant, as she notices a lot of things that happen to Yuki, especially when she gets hurt or is very depressed.
HISTORY
Sayori's family is a pretty old and distinguished family so she has a fiance whom she has never met (confirmed The Official Vampire Knight Fanbook). Her father is Councillor Wakaba.
PLOT SUMMARY
Yori's part in the story is relatively small. She spends a lot of time in the first arc worried about Yuki not geting enough sleep and having nightmares. She also states that she doesn't obsess over the night class like the other girls because they scare her.She teases Yuki when Ichiru reveals that Zero has feelings for Yuki and confirms Yori's suspicions, although the whole matter isn't clear to Yuki. Yori finds out that Yuki is a vampire after Aido protected her from a vampire who served Rido. Despite that fact, Yori still accepts Yuki and appeared to be more worried over the fact that she would lose her best friend. Yori parts company with Yuki when she is taken to a safe place by Aido on Kaname's orders. After the attack is over, she defends Aido when the other day class girls are afraid of him.
Yori begins the second arc hassling Zero about his stance on vampires and questioning whether he will hunt down Yuki. Yori is one of the few day class students that know about vampires when she and a few other refused to have their memories wiped. After Kaito discovers Yori's friendship with Yuki, he helps Yori to go to the vampire ball, having her stow away in his suitcase, which Zero freaks when she appears at the ball. Kaito and Zero promise to keep an eye on her while she goes find her best friend. Yori has a brief but happy reunion with Yuki.
RELATIONSHIP
Yuki Kuran
Yuki has been Yori's best friend since middle school and in high school they are dorm mates. She currently still remains Yuki's best friend even when she discovers that Yuki is a Pureblood vampire and has no contact from her for a year. Yuki pounces on Yori to demonstrate the danger she poses at Yori, but Yori just laughs because she doesn't find Yuki scary at all.

Appears only in the novella Vampire Knight: Ice Blue's Sin (ヴァンパイア騎士 憂氷の罪, Vanpaia Naito: Aisu Burū no Tsumi?). She has a crush on Kaname at the beginning of the book but as the story progressed her affections are transferred to Hanabusa Aido. Fuka dies at the end of the novella.
Kaseumi Kageyama 影山 霞
A student of the Day Class at Cross Academy and the president of Yuki's class.

He has dark brown hair and wears glasses. He wears his uniform properly and normally has an expression on his face.
PLOT SUMMARY
He is in love with Ruka Souen and shows it to her, but Ruka has no interest in him. During St. Xocolotls day, he tried to give Ruka some chocolates, but she rejected the chocolates. At the social ball, he had asked Ruka to dance with him but she denied his request, saying that she did not want to dance with someone she doesn't know. When Ichiru arrived at the academy, the president was told to take care of him.
NADASHIKO SHINDO 新藤 撫子
A minor human character who is Day Class student who appears in the Vampire Knight Manga. She has her own story in the second novel.
CHARACTER OUTLINE
Shindo appears as a shy, but daring Day Class student, and like the rest of the other Day Class girls, she first appears as silly, because of her giddy admiration of the Night Class. She was considered as brave by her fellow Day Class students after she timidly, but bravely asked Zero Kiryu to dance with her during the ball. Shindo braids her long hair into two low pigtails and she has clips in her hair. She also wears glasses. Shindo's hair color is very light brown which almost looks blonde, and her eye color is blue.
PLOT SUMMARY
Shindo is first seen on St. Xocolatl's Day/Valentine's Day, when the day class girls stand outside the Night Class. She attempts the climb the wall to get into the night Dormitory but falls. Zero catches her before this happens though. Zero rebuffs her repeated attempts to get close to him. She attempts to give chocolates to Zero, but he refuses and tells her to leave him alone. Then she comes across him in a side story in the stables and later attempts to ask him to dance during the ball. She is not seen again until after the battle with Rido's vampire servants is over and is one of the girls who speaks up for the Night Class, one of the many voices of the Day Class girls who voted that they did not want to forget about the Night Class's secret: being Vampires.

Akatsuki Kain is a calm person who rarely loses his cool, and often needs to reign in an impulsive Hanabusa and Ruka. He is incredibly perceptive and is frequently sensitive to others' feelings. His association with Aido frequently sees him getting into trouble, despite not being directly responsible. He refers to Kaname Kuran as their "gang leader." He is also loyal and protective; the type who would never betray his friends. He reveals that he follows Kaname because Ruka does, but someday hopes to believe in himself.
BACKGROUND
Akatsuki grew up within a noble family, the Kain family, which was pro-monarchy. His family is part of what is referred to by Asato Ichijo as the “Aido faction”, presumably comprised of the Aido, Souen, Kain, and other related clans. He is very close to his cousins, Hanabusa Aido, and Ruka Souen, having been with them since early childhood. He and the other two children met Kaname once when they were children, but did not meet again until years later. Not much is known about his parentage. His original intent in attending Cross Academy was to take care of Hanabusa and Ruka. In the Moon Dorm, he is roommates with Hanabusa Aido.
STORY SUMMARY
He first suspected Zero of killing Shizuka and reported the facts to Kaname as he knew them. During the attack on the night class, he accompanies Ruka and protects the day class students. When they question what the Night Class are, he promises to tell them later. When Hanabusa fails to get Kaname's location after the attack, he heads back home with Ruka and Hanabusa.
During the following year, he appears to now act as Kaname's messenger and remains one of his right-hand men. Kain now appears to follow Kaname's orders, primarily in order to ensure Ruka's safety who continues to loyally serve Kaname. Kain advises Kaname, that if he did not put Ruka to safety before she falls into danger, he would kill him.
RELATIONSHIP
Ruka Souen
Kain holds an unrequited love for Ruka Souen and loyally follows her in whatever path she chooses. His strong love for her stops him from having a complete loyalty to Kaname Kuran, as Kain once told him that he would never forgive Kaname if he hurt Ruka.
Hanabusa Aido
As his cousin and best friend the two are very close and he cares deeply for Aidou even though Aidou quite often gets him into trouble.

Hanabusa's hair color is of golden blonde, and his eyes are an electric blue, matching his flirtatious personality. Due to it being quite an intricate colour, it is quite hard to describe, usually simply called bright blue, turquoise or electric blue.
PERSONALITY
Hanabusa is very outgoing and charismatic, often flirting with the Day Class girls. He is also careless about keeping the fact that he is a vampire secret, often asking girls what their blood type is, even going so far as to drink Yuki's blood in front of two girls in Volume I. His actions frequently draw Kaname's disapproval, and he is usually punished for his brashness by the Pureblood. He cares very deeply for his friends and is fiercely loyal to Kaname and Akatsuki. Hanabusa has displayed immense curiosity too, delving deep into the Kuran's family history in an attempt to find out what happened to Kaname's parents ten years ago. He is also very observant, realising Zero Kiryu was a vampire and that Kaname did not care to have everyone know. As a child he did not like Kaname Kuran, even telling Kaname he hated him. He also states that this was probably because due to the attention given to him by his older siblings, he thought he was the smartest and most important boy in the entire world.
BACKGROUND
Hanabusa is the heir of the Aido family, one of the highest lineage of vampire aristocratic families alongside the Ichijo family. Hanabusa has three older sisters who spoiled him as the youngest child. Since he was young, Hanabusa has been playmates with his cousins from the branch families, Akatsuki Kain and Ruka Souen. Hanabusa, along with Akatsuki Kain, are known as Kaname's "right hand men".
PLOT SUMMARY
Hanabusa first appears when Yuki is at crossing time and we see Aido flirting with a few Day Class girls. Later, when Yuki Cross jumps in to deal with two day class girls violating the curfew, Yuki notes one of them is bleeding, then Hanabusa and Akatsuki arrive. Yuki was afraid of what they might do to those girls but Hanabusa tells her that they came especially to see Yuki. Yuki swung down from a tree and scraped open her hands and the scent of her blood attracted them. Hanabusa bites her hand and drinks her blood. He was going to bite her neck but is stopped by Zero Kiryu, who shoots into a tree trunk with his Bloody Rose, giving him a fright. Luckily, the two girls fainted and were taken to the Headmaster to have their memories modified. He later confronts Yuki, jealous over Kaname's special attention toward a human and after she reveals that she was saved by Kaname, he says that she should ask Kaname to drink all her blood for which Kaname punishes him.
Hanabusa has a crisis of faith when he witnesses Kaname kill Shizuka Hio. Hanabusa runs away and ends up staying with Zero and Yuki at the headmaster's house as Zero refuses to allow him into his room. Zero and Yuki do their best to accomodate the fussy Hanabusa and when Yuki gives Hanabusa some of Zero's blood tablets, Hanabusa reveals he is aware that Zero is a vampire, but promises not to reveal his secret. He talks to Yuki about Kaname and agrees when she says she is ok even if she is betrayed by Kaname. He returns with renewed faith in Kaname after that.
During the Rido Kuran saga, Hanabusa is appointed as Yuki's relunctant protector in the beginning, he fails to see her worth and grumbles about the task until he comes to the conclusion that Kaname has placed a great deal of faith in asking him to do it, but Kaname does not confirm this. When Yuki leaves her room against orders, he fails to convince her to return, when she returns he expresses surprise to see her cry as a pureblood.
Currently riding on a train, he, Ruka, and Akatsuki are on their way home to see their families for a little while, after deciding that they would search for Kaname and Yuki after their short visit.
A year later, Hanabusa is seen to be Yuki's personal teacher and continues as her protector. Hanabusa does his best to ensure Yuki follows the rules, finding that it is he who is punished when she violates them. Hanabusa is forced to accompany Yuki when she leaves the Kuran Mansion and he is unable to convince her to stay. He follows her to the resendence of Isaya Shoto puzzled at her actions and tries to protect her from Isaya's threat. Yuki prevents him from attacking Touma after the pureblood threatens Yuki and she gets injured trying to protect him. When Yuki collapses, Hanabusa is left to follow Zero who shows up and takes Yuki to a hunter headquarters. When Yuki flees the scene, Hanabusa is left to be arrested by Zero to be interrogate. When it becomes apparent he knows nothing, the hunters attempt to return him to the Kuran mansion. Yuki hijacks the paddywagon and they instead are diverted to to the Hanadagi palace. They arrive in time to witness his father acquiesing to being killed by Kaname to Hanabusa's despair. Hanabusa returns with Kaien back to the headquarters of the Hunter's Society. Yuki finds him weeping alone in a room, she attempts to comfort him and tells him he can leave and that she will take responsibility to find out why Kaname killed his father. Hanabusa declines leaving wishing to continue his duty to protect her. Later Zero comes to tell him that Yuki is on the move. Hanabusa thinks that Zero only came to see if he is tormented by hatred for Kaname and responds that he is not like him. Later he joins Yuki proclaiming his loyalty to her.
RELATIONSHIPS
Kaname Kuran
While Hanabusa did not like Kaname at their first meeting because of childish animosity, he became one of Kaname's most loyal followers in the Night Class and a major fan to the degree where there are comedy shorts of Kaname trying to tolerate Hanabusa's enthusiastic affection.
Akatsuki Kain
Akatsuki is Hanabusa's cousin and best friend. They are room mates together at Cross Academy, where their cousin Ruka Souen also attends.
Yuki Cross
Yuki and Hanabusa begin as classmates in the Day and Night Classes, respectively, at Cross Academy, but later, after Yuki is revealed to be a Pureblood vampire, Hanabusa ends up becoming both her tutor and her companion, attempting to protect Yuki in Kaname's stead.
POWERS
Hanabusa possesses standard noble vampire powers, such as accelerated healing. Hanabusa's ability to conjure and control ice is the opposite of his cousin Akatsuki's, which is the ability to conjure and control fire.
Maria Kurenai 紅 まり亜
A sickly girl who is a new Night Class student at Cross Academy. She is a very distant relative of the late Shizuka Hio.

HISTORY
She allowed Shizuka to possess her body in exchange to being allowed to drink Shizuka's blood, which would strengthen her sickly body. Due to Shizuka's untimely death, this promise was never fulfilled. Maria has returned to her family after the Shizuka incident. She possesses some affection for Ichiru, as she asked Yuki Cross to tell Zero Kiryu that if he sees Ichiru Kiryu, to tell him Maria wants to see him again.
PLOT SUMMARY
Maria is first seen in 14th Night in which the headmaster asks Yuki Cross to show her around Cross Academy when Maria enrols as a night class student. At first Maria is unsure how to act at Cross Academy, remarking that Yuki looks tasty, to which the headmaster tells her that word is taboo at Cross Academy. Maria confesses to Yuki that she is scared that the other vampires won't like her as she is a sick and frail vampire, thus making her liable to insults or taunts. Yuki comforts her and she hugs her, again remarking that she is tasty. She gives off a bad first impression to the Night Class - playful and fearless. Later, she rushes out of class to tell Yuki that she thinks she messed up with making friends.
Zero seems to recognise the dangers of the new vampire and as he confronts her, it is revealed that Shizuka Hio, the pureblood princess is in possession of Maria's body. When Yuki goes to Shizuka/Maria to offer herself in exchange for helping Zero, Shizuka then departs from Maria, and returns to her original body, leaving Maria unconscious.
Maria is seen again when she awakens in the infirmary. She mistakes Zero for Ichiru and embraces him, but after realizing her mistake, droops and says that if he really is Zero, then it is true that Shizuka must be dead. She reveals to Zero that an unknown individual is orchestrating these events from behind the scenes, and whoever that person is, is Zero's real enemy. She is then taken home by her parents, but she hopes to remain friends with Yuki.
Maria's reappears when using a bird's eyes while attempting to find Ichiru, she witnesses Kaname killing the council and advises her father of what occurred. She again later find out about Kaname's murder of Nagamichi Aido and is in the midst of asking her parents about it when Yuki comes to recruit her to the Night Class. A little stronger than she once was, thanks to Shizuka's blood, Maria accepts Yuki's offer of joining the Night Class. While at Cross Academy, Maria becomes interested in Zero due to his resemblence to Ichiru, and even goes so far as to ask Yuki if she can take him from her.
RELATIONSHIPS
Shizuka Hio
Although Shizuka and Maria are distant relatives, Shizuka chooses Maria to be her vessel in order to hide her identity when she enters Cross Academy. Maria agrees to loan Shizuka her body both because she admires her, and also in exchange for some of Shizuka's blood, which helps heal Maria's sickly constitution.
Ichiru Kiryu
It is hinted that Maria may have romantic feelings for Ichiru. She appears to have spent a great deal of time with him while he was living with Shizuka and admired Ichiru's kindness toward her.
Zero Kiryu
Maria become attached to Zero after the death of Ichiru, claiming the two brothers are more alike than Zero realizes, and that the Ichiru she'd always been searching for resides inside of Zero.
Rima Touya 遠矢 莉磨
One of the youngest Night Class students and works alongside Senri Shiki as a model. She is/was roommates with Ruka Souen.

PERSONALITY
Rima possesses a strong and self-assured personality similar to Shiki. She tends to expand energy only when necessary, and is usually a lady of few words. Normally, she comes across as a quick thinker, indifferent and aloof, but is often seen to be worrying about Shiki (mostly) and Takuma Ichijo. Despite her uninterested air she has no qualms speaking her mind and unexpectedly has a short-tempered side to her as well. She usually has an indifferent or disinterested expression on her face. As a vampire, she gets sunburned easily and can be seen walking under an umbrella/parasol with Shiki during the day.
Cool, professional and occasionally cynical Rima also has a lot of spunk and is very loyal and protective of her friends. She watches over Senri and worries about him, trying to get him to think for himself more. She is worried about Takuma when he disappears and upset that they aren’t able to find out where and how he was.
APPEARANCES
Rima has a pale, creamy skin tone that resembles the tone of most of the Night Class. She has a strikingly beautiful appearance, much like the other noble vampires. She has a slender, perfectly proportioned body, and her hair is a light orange shade, and is perfectly straight. When left alone it will hang just below her shoulders in layered locks of gold. Rima often uses black ribbon to tie it up into pigtails high on each side of her head: the only part that is left alone is the bangs that fall just above her eyes and shorter hair on the side of her face. Her eyes are big and described as looking like that of a doll's, and are a 'jewel-blue' or 'cerulean' colour.
BACKGROUND
Rima is devoted to Shiki and the two can often be seen walking together or eating pocky. Rima and Shiki seem to share a love for pocky, a Japanese snack. The Toya family are pro-monarchy like the Aido, Kain and Souen families. However, it is suggested later in the Manga that she chose Shiki over her family, so whether or not she is still pro-monarchy isn't known. She states that she respects Shiki's Mom (when she was an actress).
PLOT SUMMARY
Rima worrying about Shiki.
In the beginning of the series, Rima plays a very insignificant role. She worries about Shiki over the holidays when he returns home and even more so when she is unable to contact him. After suspecting Shiki has changed after the holidays, she confronts Rido Kuran and tells him to leave Shiki's body since she can tell that he is not himself. She is wounded by Rido, but is saved by Takuma Ichijo. She tries to convince Shiki to snap out of his state and calls him an idiot for letting Rido control him, telling Shiki he should learn to love himself more. Badly wounded, she is sent back to the Moon Dormitory by Ichijo. Shiki, returned to his original self, saves her by carrying her out as the building collapses. He devotedly feeds her his blood after she asks for it to help regain strength. In the aftermath of the battle, Rima and Shiki are seen searching for Ichijo, who has disappeared.
A year later, during the ball, Rima is annoyed with Kaname because he halted their search prematurely and did not reveal Ichijo's whereabouts. Rima expresses an unwillingness to attend the party, but is cajoled by Senri to attend, where coincidently, they ran into Ichijo.
After the ball they visit the Kuran mansion to deliver a message to Yuki from Ichijo. The two get annoyed with Aido for his unwillingness to bend the rules, but Yuki asks to make an exception for the two and invites them in. Rima notices Yuki's heels and comments to Yuki that she didn't think the prefect was the type to wear impractical shoes (pin heels). She and Shiki leave promptly because the place is a reminder of Rido.
They are later seen doing a photoshoot at the school where Sara Shirabuki was posing as a student, and again they run into Ichijo there.
They are shown again at a model shoot after Kaname has disappeared. They see a model who had been confronted by a vampire who said she looked unappetising. They then start discussing the nobels and Kaname's relationship and Rima shows sympathy for Yuki. Yuki then comes later at the end of the model shoot to ask something. It is revealed that Yuki wants to start the Night Class again and wanted Rima and Shiki to be her comrades. Rima helping Yuki with the Night Class may start to involve her in the story more.
RELATIONSHIPS
Senri Shiki
Rima seems to act like an older sister to Shiki, often seen feeding him pocky in the anime and sometimes in the manga. They are acquaintances in modelling and are rarely seen without each other, hinting at a close relationship. Rima is often seen worrying over Shiki, especially when he goes off to see his mother whilst she travels to the Aido mansion with the others. They both seem to understand each other deeply as Rima is the first person to immediately discover that Shiki is being possessed. She cries out for Shiki to love himself more when she is injured by a possessed Shiki's blood whip. Again, their relationship is hinted to be close when she asks for Shiki's blood upon waking up (this is usually a gesture made only between lovers or master and slave) and he agrees. Later, their roles seem to almost reverse--with Shiki as the "older sibling" when he shows new maturity in urging her to attend the Kuran's soiree to show their support.
Takuma Ichijo
Rima is presumably good friends with Ichijo and vice versa as he is evidently worried when Rima is injured by a possessed Shiki. Likewise, Rima is also seen mentioning where 'Ichijo-san' was when she wakes up and both her and Shiki find that Ichijo has disappeared.

Rima possesses the ability to wield electricity/lightning. Like all noble vampires, she possesses an accelerated healing factor and can erase memories if needed.
Ruka Souen 早園 瑠佳

PERSONALITY
Ruka usually reflects a haughty, bored and uninterested person to the rest of the world, probably due to her noble upbringing. One of her defining characteristics is her love for Kaname Kuran. Since they were children, Ruka has been tied by loyalty and admiration for him, angry at all those who disrespect him and disdainful of all girls who fawn on him. Her possessiveness made her hot-tempered and jealous, but her love for Kaname also brought out a vulnerable, self-doubting aspect of her usually proud personality, which she only expressed to her close friend, Akatsuki Kain. She realized how overjealous and how she was only thinking of her own feelings and matured. Since giving up on him, she has shown a gentler side to her personality. She even gave Yuki, whom she was jealous of before, etiquette lessons and during the ball, told her that she was glad Yuki and Kaname were getting along so well.
Although Kain has been in love with her since they were children, she appears to be oblivious to his feelings for her. She is shown elegant, and very ladylike.

Her family is part of what is referred to by Asato Ichijo as the "Aido faction," which is comprised of the Kain, Aido, Souen, Toya, and other clans. Not much is known about her parentage, but her father or mother are possibly part of the Senate or in another high position, as Ichijo refers to her as "The daughter of Souen." Ruka came to Cross Academy to be closer to her long-time idol, Kaname Kuran, with whom she is in love. On their first night at the school, she asked Kaname to drink her blood to prevent him from drinking Yuki's blood which he accepted. He has refused it since, which deeply hurts her, even though she has always expected such.
She was roommates with Rima Toya. The Souen family are pro-monarchy like the Aido, Kain, and Toya families.
PLOT SUMMARY
At the beginning of the story, she is very loyal to and defends Kaname and despises all those girls who try to get close to him, especially Yuki to whom Kaname gives special attention to. She tries to ask Kaname to drink her blood after their encounter with Asato Ichijou but Kaname refuses, causing Ruka to be rather sad (although she knew he was going to refuse anyway) as he had drunk her blood on a previous occasion when they first stayed at Cross Academy.
She becomes upset with the fact that Kaname chose Yuki to be his lover and locks herself all day in her room. The possessed Shiki attempted to toy with her but was halted by Kain and afterwards, Ichijou. She is seen noting that Shiki may not really be himself as she notices his left eye is a different colour. She overhears Kaname telling Aido and Kain that Yuki is his sister and wife-to-be and finally accepts Yuki being Kaname's lover. She even gives Aido shoes to give to Yuki to wear. She seems much more mature and level-headed now, recognizing the foolishness of her obsessive feelings for Kaname, though she still shows just as much dedication to him as before but with a new calmness. When Rido Kuran's servants invaded Cross Academy and attempted to attack the Day Class students and present them as gifts to their Master, Ruka alongside Kain, worked to defend the Day Class girls. Following the breakup of the Night Class, she, Aido, and Kain returned home to see their families for a little while, because they did not know where he had disappeared to and decided that they would search for Kaname and Yuki after their short visit.
Following the one year timeskip, Ruka has been aiding Aido in training Yuki in order to turn her into a lady. Later, Kaname sent Ruka and Kain to monitor the Hanadagi estate for any signs of movement.Upon returning to update Kaname, Ruka troubled by their upcoming plan, gives Yuki a cold response, who concerned by the out of character response, asks Kaname if he has done something to Ruka. Ruka later takes care of Kaname after his hand is damaged by wielding the anti-vampire sword.
Along with Akatsuki, Ruka follows Kaname in his new mission, though its not clear if she is happy with their new course as she has some gloom about her nature, but she appears determined not to leave Kaname's side. Kaname told Akatsuki when the time came, he would force Ruka to leave.
RELATIONSHIP
Kaname Kuran
Ruka has had an unrequited love for Kaname since she was a child, having a crush on him even before she met him and remains one of his most loyal followers. Kaname remains aware of her love and in return respects her. She decided to set aside her feelings for him after she learned of Yuki's true identity.
Akatsuki Kain
Kain is Ruka's cousin and they have been playmates since they were small, however Ruka is unaware of Kain's unrequited love for her.
Hanabusa Aidou
Hanabusa is also Ruka's cousin and has known her since they were young. Ruka is constantly seen getting into fights with Hanabusa.

Student of the Night Class. She is Kaname Kuran's bodyguard.
APPEARANCES
Seiren is average in height and has a pale complexion, shared by many of the Night Class vampires. She possesses silver to pale violet hair that matches her pale violet eyes which appear relaxed. Her bangs stop just above her eyebrows and are short in length.
PERSONALITY
Seiren seems to be a no-nonsense type girl, and can always be trusted to get her job done. She can seem cold, but is very loyal. She is a very quiet character as she only speaks when necessary. Seiren may come across harsh at first, and she can get irritated very quickly. Some say she can be a little too serious. Once Seiren befriends a person she will defend you to her last breath. A word to the wise... don't threaten her or others she knows, or she will kill you without hesitation.
BACKGROUND
Seiren is usually the first to defend Kaname from anyone she regards as a threat. For example, she barely refrains from killing Zero Kiryu when he points the Bloody Rose at Kaname . Seiren also appears to serve Kaname in the capacity of a spy or informant. She is often seen in the background ever watching for danger or hidden to retreve information which makes her mostly a loner. Seiren is a highly trusted vampire with the Kuran family. After Rido Kuran was killed, Seiren continues following her master, Kaname. Seiren is a highly trusted vampire, as when Kaname and Yuki return to the Kuran mansion in secret, Seiren is already there having prepared their quarters.
POWERS
Seiren's main choice of weapon is her body. Being highly skilled at various martial arts as well as ninja-like weapons, Seiren is able to quickly subdue multiple opponents. Also, as a vampire she possesses the ability to erase minds and put people to sleep when ordered (though this is a common ability for all vampires). She also has the ability to heal very quickly. (though most vampires have this ability)

"He lives like a cloud, just drifting along...but during the battle, a staunch "self" awakens...in his innocent spirit."
One of the youngest Night Class members. It is later revealed that Senri is in fact the illegitimate son of Rido Kuran, meaning he's Kaname Kuran and Yuki Cross's cousin.

Judging from his appearance, it is obvious Senri has inherited his looks from his mother, Midori. But his mother commented that he is becoming more like "that demonic bastard", i.e. his father as he grows up, sharing the same wild appearance. Senri has mahogany hair and lightly tinted blue eyes and a pale skin tone, shared by all the other vampires.
PERSONALITY
Shiki possesses a personality similar to that of Rima Toya. He also seems to develope love for Rima. He is usually impassive, and often detached to the rest of the vampires except for Rima and Ichijo. He rarely expresses emotion, and may seem like he doesn't care about his surroundings. Because of his reserved nature, he keeps to himself, and never has much to say, but when he does it is noted in the Fanbook that he can be very blunt with his comments. When the Night Class is given orders to hunt down a level E vampire, Shiki is usually the one we see out hunting them. He and Rima both share a love for pocky, often seen sharing it when they are together; she feeds it to him as if he is a child. Like all other vampires, Shiki does not like to be under the sun and can often be seen walking around with Rima under her parasol in daylight.
Laid back to the point of seeming apathetic, Senri doesn’t have much of an interest in anything and possesses little motivation, although he is responsible about his modeling career and duties. A follower by nature, he became quite attached to Takuma Ichijo – a natural leader, who was always prompting him to try new things. Because of his mother’s mental illness, Senri learned to become a quiet ‘doll’ who didn’t cause trouble or make her worry. He seems to think little of himself and lets people use him, prompting his friend Rima Touya to encourage him to stand up for himself more. After being possessed by his father, Rido Kuran, and being used to hurt people he cares about, including Rima, Senri does begin to stand up and fight for himself and appears less apathetic afterwards.
BACKGROUND
Like the Ichijo family, the Shiki family is the pro-council because his mother's uncle is a member of the Vampire Council. Shiki's mother was also a well-known former actress, though is now a little unstable and her son must take care of her. According to the fanbook, he was scouted as a model while visiting his mom while she was working as an actress. He and Rima had met earlier, as they were working for the same agency.
Senri is revealed to be the illegitimate son of is Rido Kuran, thus making Shiki, Kaname Kuran and Yuki Cross cousins, though Senri doesn't associate much with Kaname during the series. Senri is also a distant cousin of Rima Touya. Senri share's his father's ability to use his own blood as a weapon, although Rido can use it to a greater degree. Though his father is a Pureblood, Shiki is not considered one because his mother is an Aristocrat. It could therefore be said that Shiki is above most aristocrats. Since he is above most aristocrats, he gets a little more respect from the nobles/aristocrats. Shiki notices and has a bad feeling when a pureblood dies or loses blood because his dad was a pureblood causing him to have a little more vampire blood then human blood.
PLOT SUMMARY
Senri does not have much of a main role in the first season and is considered as one of the minor characters. He is heard regarding Yuki as "tasty" much to the surprise of the rest of the Night Class. Senri accompanies Takuma in eliminating a Level E vampire on one occasion (the one where they meet Yuki and Zero) but he doesn't really play a big part in it. Later on, he is seen with Rima Toya going on another mission to eliminate a newly turned Level E, unaware that Zero has also been given the duty from the Hunter's Association.
Senri possessed by Rido
Senri starts having a central role in the plot of the second season when, during the holiday, his great-uncle shows him 'the Shiki family's greatest secret', the bloody, weak remains of his father, Rido Kuran, who was supposed to be dead. He becomes possessed by his father and returns to the Academy, where Rima immediately notices something different about him. She eventually learns the truth and swears to kick out whoever is inside of Senri's body, engaging in combat. During the fight, she tells him that he is an idiot to let someone control him so easily and to "love himself more". Senri is seen trying to regain control, while Rido tells him it's futile. Senri then falls unconscious, and Rido leaves his body as he regains his original one.
In the 41st Night , he regained consciousness and after recalling the events that had taken place, apologizes to an unconscious Rima for letting Rido use his body and embraces her. He then protects Rima from a vampire servant of Rido. Senri declares he is no longer a puppet that can be controlled by his father. In chapter 43, he hurriedly carries Rima out of the Moon Dorm as it is collapsing. During this, he suddenly came upon Rido and glared at him before leaving.
He and Rima went searching for Ichijo who didn't come back until Kaname had told them to stop, telling them that Ichijo was safe but not telling them any details. Rima was still upset with Kaname for that and didn't want to be at the ball in the first place, but Senri convinced her to stop sulking and to go for his sake. As they were discussing this, they ran into Ichijo. The three of them reunited and Senri and Rima learned that Ichijo had been with Sara Shirabuki for the past year.
Later, Senri along with Rima, goes to visit Yuki at the Kuran mansion. Yuki, despite being told by Kaname not to let anyone in, says she'd accept responsibility and cheerfully invites them in for tea. He tells her not to bother as they were not staying for long, and relays on Ichijo's message to 'take care of Kaname'. Then, he proceeds to say that he did not refuse the tea because he disliked her, and that he preferred the carefree look she had when she invited him in.
In 58th Night, he and Rima are seen having a photoshoot at a school where Sara was posing as a student and Ichijo, her brother. They again run into Ichijo there.
Following Kaname's disappearance, Senri has been noting the increased trouble brewing. He and Rima are the first to go and support Yuki in her bid to re-establish the Night Class.
RELATIONSHIPS
Rima Toya
Rima is Shiki's constant companion. He works as a model alongside Rima Toya. The exact nature of the relationship is unknown, but it can be noted that they are very close.
Takuma Ichijo
Shiki is roommates with Takuma Ichijo. Although they have not known each other very long, they are close friends. Takuma even goes against Kaname to protect Senri's body while he is in Rido's control. In one of the side stories, Takuma notes that Senri is an "Ichijo" while he sleeps on his shoulder.
IN THE ANIME
In episode 9, it seems he had wrote a note for Rima. Shiki appeared as if he did not to want to give it to her, but she sees the note in his pocket. When she asks what it is, she reads it out loud and the note reads: "Please invite me as your dance partner." He then says, "I don't need it, so you can have it, Rima."
In Vampire Knight Guilty, when the Night Class students pictures are shown in the opening theme, Shiki is shown last, upside down with one eye covered. This shows how Shiki's body is taken over by Rido, and one of his eyes is covered to cover the red eye that he has after being taken over. Afterward, a bat with one red eye and one blue eye flies out of the page.

Like all noble vampires, Senri has accelerated healing powers. He has a whip-like weapon which develops from his blood. This is formed when he is pricked on the tip of his index finger.

The vice-president of the Night Class. He is a noble-class vampire who is good friends with Kaname, whom he is close to and respects.

Takuma appears very un-vampire like with his cheerful, enthusiastic, and caring demeanor whether it be towards humans or vampires, while capable of being deadly and determined when the situation requires. His constant smile and upbeat attitude, even in dark or painful situations sometimes make it difficult to tell what he’s really thinking or feeling.
Kaname grew up in his house and as a result Ichijo understands and is more comfortable with him than most other vampires. He seems to understand the burden that being a pureblood can be, and is not particularly reverent or afraid of them. Takuma is also clever at mentioning the flaws or negativites of Kaname's character or decisions without getting him angry and is the only one who can name Kaname without honorifics.
In school he took his roommate, Senri Shiki, under his wing and looked after him, becoming quite close to both Senri and Rima Toya as a result. He is very loyal to his friends and will protect and stand up for them no matter the cost. Although Takuma usually possesses a carefree attitude, it can be shown that he understands complicated scenarios with an air of maturity, though occasionally showing an immature side.
Takuma's hobbies are reading (manga, mysteries, dictionaries), playing rakugo, and performing tea ceremony. Takuma is a master when it comes to tea, something that both Kaname Kuran and Sara Shirabuki seem to like. He likes his rose tea with rose jam.

BACKGROUND
The Ichijo family is the highest family of the vampire aristocrats below the Purebloods families. Takuma's father is an actor and his mother is the head of a flower arranging (ikebana) school. It is most likely that Takuma was raised by his grandfather, Asato Ichijo, who educated him and has high expectations of him. Asato appeared to have ambitions of marrying him to a member of the Shirabuki family.
PLOT SUMMARY
His grandfather asks him to spy on Kaname, but he refuses out of loyalty and attempts to break free of his grandfather's mold. Takuma attempts to protect the possessed Senri Shiki, forced to go against Kaname in order to protect all his friends. Following Shiki's freedom from Rido's possession, Takuma has rejoined Kaname's side, where he appears in time to stop Kaname from killing his grandfather and instead insists on being allowed to handle the issue. It is strongly hinted at that Takuma intends to end his life along with his grandfather, saying "Together, let us put an end to the Ichijo line." But it is revealed that he never got his wish, as he was discovered unconscious afterward by Sara Shirabuki, one of the only known Pureblood vampires, who said that she always wanted "to have" Takuma, as though he were simply a doll or a toy. He is currently in the hands of Sara Shirabuki, who is torturing him to extract information about Kaname.
Takuma asking Yuki to leave
After the one year time-skip, he seems to be living with her and is quite healthy physically. But as time progresses, he starts to lose his luster. The smiling, cheerful Takuma that was shown in the beginning is now a lot more serious. He seems to be more distressed as he sees the terrible things that Sara is doing. It seems that she is using his name and face to control 'The Ichijo Group' in the background to get what she wants. He also sees that she is keeping humans locked away, forcing them to agree to let her turn them into vampires. He vows to stop her as soon as he gets the chance. While it can be speculated that while their relationship was all right in the beginning of the year time skip, the more he sees of her cruel behavior, the more he distresses and wants to leave. It can also be speculated that she has used her Pureblood control to keep him where he is or tell him what to do.
RELATIONSHIPS
Sara Shirabuki
Takuma seems to have become quite close to Sara Shirabuki during the one year time-skip, although the nature of their relationship is still unknown. Despite the fact Sara likes to treat him like a personal slave, Takuma comes to her defense when Rima Toya and Senri Shiki ask if she has abused him. Interestingly enough, Shiki wonders if he has fallen in love with her, which Rima thinks is foolishness, Shiki does acknowledge the fact that she has him wrapped around her finger, in contrast to Rima, whose first thought was that Takuma was being controlled by some pureblood power.
Sara treats Takuma with disdain and is mildly abusive toward him, punishing him when he talks to Yuki too much about Sara's doings and she force fed him her blood to maintain control over him.
Kaname Kuran
Takuma and Kaname spent ten years together as constant companions after Kaname's parents died. Since Kaname got Yuki back, Takuma has kept his distance.
Senri Shiki
Takuma and Senri are very close friends and were roommates at Cross Academy. Sometime Senri rest his head on Takuma's shoulder while he reads his manga.

Kaien Cross 黒主 灰閻理事長
Both the Headmaster of Cross Academy, and current head of the Vampire Hunters Association. He is the guardian of Zero Kiryu and adoptive father of Yuki Cross, the heroine of the story.

Kaien is one of the few characters that wears spectacles, though he removes them in times of action.

After befrending Juri and Haruka Kuran, Kaien took on Juri's dream of establishing a school for vampires and humans, and retired as a Vampire Hunter in order to establish Cross Academy 16 years prior to the story's beginning. Following the deaths of Juri and Haruka, Kaien took in their hidden daughter, Yuki, after Kaname Kuran brought her to him for safekeeping. Thus Kaien became Yuki's very doting and slightly odd father, much to Yuki's annoyance. Kaien also took in Zero Kiryu several years later, after the deaths of Zero's parents. As he did with Yuki, Kaien also wished to adopt Zero, but Zero refused.
Shortly after Zero's arrival, Kaien, with Kaname's assistance, was finally able to establish the Night Class to promote understanding between humans and vampires. Due to the vampire presence at the school, Zero initially refuses to attend high school and is left behind a year, but Kaien is later able to convince him to attend the following year in order to prevent Yuki from being alone in the duties of being a guardian.

The current top ranked vampire hunter and a qualified teacher. Yagari formerly trained Zero Kiryu and to an extent, Ichiru Kiryu to be a vampire hunter.

Yagari possesses long, wavy, jet black hair. He wears an eyepatch over his right eye after losing it due to protecting Zero from a rabid vampire. He is often seen sporting a wide brimmed cowboy style hat and a cigarette hanging from his mouth. He appears to be in his mid thirties, and yet seems to be very attractive and cool looking, as several dozens of Day Class girls asked him if he's single or has a girlfriend. He has a scar on the right side of his chin, but it's not apparent where it came from.
PERONALITY
Yagari comes across as a no nonsense gruff hunter. He subscribes to a tough love attitude. He is realistic and not an unfair judge, but does not trust vampires any more than he has to. He expresses admiration for the night class when they stand against the Council, but warns them against becoming outcasts. He doesn't approve of Kaname's methods and reacts negatively to Kaname's implications of atonement for the sins of the hunters ancestors.
Yagari has a gruff attitude, but a good heart. He is very professional as a hunter and methodically destroys vampires on his list. He can seem merciless because he understands the harm that Level E vampires can do, and he knows that hesitating can cost him his life. He was ready to kill Zero if he showed signs of becoming a Level E, but it’s obvious that he cares about his young apprentice deeply and is glad that he didn’t have to make that call. He is often annoyed by Kaien’s idealistic goals and silly chatter, but he also obviously respects and his loyal to his friend.
He takes his duty as a hunter and protector of the innocent seriously, but in general seems to know where to find the balance between eliminating the dangerous vampires and using threats and psychology to deal with troublemakers who are just young and impulsive rather than being true menaces.
BACKGROUND
Yagari first met Kaien Cross as a child and was rude to the older hunter, perceiving that Kaien had too much vampire DNA in him.
Yagari had great respect for Zero's parents and trained Zero and Ichiru inspite of knowing that the latter was not strong enough to become a vampire hunter. He took in Kaito Takamiya for training after his friend was injured and trained him alongside the twins.
Yagari lost his eye during an incident when Zero disobeyed Yagari's order to run away, refusing to accept that the kind and beautiful doctor at his elementary school was dangerous, when in reality she was a vampire who had escaped from the control of the aristocrats, she unexpectedly transformed into a vicious vampire and Yagari shielded Zero from her, losing his eye in the process. Zero promised Yagari he would make sure that Yagari would never regret losing his eye to save Zero's life.
Following the killing of Zero's family, he gives Zero to Kaien Cross to look after believing he would never see the boy again after going to investigate the death of the elder Kiryus following his suspicions that it was not above board.
Once Yagari refers to the Chairman as uncle.
PLOT SUMMARY
Yagari showed up at Cross Academy having not seen Zero in four years, he shoots Zero through the shoulder with his anti-vampire gun when Zero almost bites Yuki. He stays at the Academy forced by Kaien Cross to serve as the substitute Ethics teacher for the Night Class (Day Class in the anime), while he decides whether Zero is dangerous or not. He forces Zero with Yuki's help to reassert the boy's desire to live for as long as he is sane.
Yagari returns behind the scenes following Shizuka's death as he confronts the Vampire Hunters Association about the Council of Elders' decision to punish Zero when they had previously acknowleged it couldn't be helped if Zero sought retribution, but the Hunters Association appears unable to interfere.
Yagari later returns on orders from the Hunters Association to apprehend Zero and he notices the ominous new aura surrounding Zero. He places Zero into the former prison on the school grounds, giving the Bloody Rose to Zero after telling him that there is yet another Pureblood vampire near the school. Yagari stays and subsequently joins Kaien in defending the Night Class from the Hunters Association.
Yagari is proud of the Night Class for defending their Day Class students, but warns them they will be in danger of being classed as outcasts for their choices. Yagari reveals that he spent the last four years investigating the circumstances of the Kiryu's death finding out that someone had been manipulating the action behind the scenes interferring with the Council and the Vampire Hunters Association. Kaname tells him that Zero dealt with the perpetrator. Although Yagari agrees the Council was hateful, Yagari is troubled by Kaname's destruction of the Council because of the chaos that will arise without their control and threatens Kaname. Kaname assures Yagari he intends to take responsibility, but doesn't elaborate.
During the next year, Yagari takes on the role of Chairman of Cross Academy in Kaien's absence. He expresses disgust over the sheer amount of paper involved. He gladly turns this role back over to Kaien. It is revealed that he has now become the head of the hunters association, though in secret as Kaien is the public figurehead.
Kaien reveals that Yagari insisted on his former student, Kaito Takamiya's recruitment at the school in order to assist the Hunters Association. Yagari attends the peace meeting along with the other hunters and gets annoyed by Kaname's discussion over the destruction of the Council of Vampires as they had to deal with the fallout and trouble caused by it and he gets further annoyed with Kaname's insinuations that they need to atone for the sins of eating a vampire ancestor, though Kaname apologises for his wording.
POWERS
Yagari is a powerful hunter, becoming the top hunter in the Hunters' association. He possesses strong abilities in the standard vampire hunter abilities.
JINMU

Jinmu is an older grouchy old school vampire hunter and shares the standard perspective with hunters that vampires are not to be trusted. He remains loyal to the Association rather than individuals in doing in his duty.
PLOT SUMMARY
Jinmu's first appearance is during the visit of Yuki Cross and Zero Kiryu to the Vampire Hunter association headquarters, when he quickly deduces that Zero has been tamed by Yuki. He becomes amused by Yuki's fierce defence against Jinmu's mocking. Jinmu later reappears in support of the association's attack on Cross Academy and later arrests Kaien Cross for his part in creating the Night Class.
After the following year, Jinmu is once again working with Kaien Cross and Toga Yagari. He questions Zero's appointment as the next president of the association, particularly in light of his connection with Yuki Kuran, but it surprised him when Zero agrees with him.

As a vampire hunter, Jinmu will have the standard vampire hunter powers of sensing vampires and accelerated healing but has not yet demonstrated these powers, or any other powers as of yet.

Kaito is a gruff young man. He is implied to be rather unethical and somewhat ruthless. He has no love of vampires, but he seems to tolerate certain ones, especially Zero and even refers to Yuki as a lion cub.
Kaito was a bit of a bully as a teen, giving both Ichiru and Zero a hard time. He seems less so as an adult, although possibly inclined to stirring the pot and seeing what happens. In one such instance he helped Yori Wakaba sneak into a vampire party, because if any of the vampires tried anything it would have given the hunters reason to take action. It’s not entirely clear whether he actually wanted this to happen, but he implied he was also testing Zero's tolerance to any threat from the vampires. Despite this, he appears to be fairly genuinely interested in Zero’s welfare for the most part.
BACKGROUND
According to Kaien, Zero and Kaito both share Yagari's attitude because they trained under him. He is a ruthless vampire hunter, hates purebloods and vampires, and is wary of other people. His elder brother was bitten by a Pureblood and on his first mission with Yagari, he insisted on killing his brother himself. His family never cared much for him, so Kaito ran away from home to live with his teacher. He always thought his brother was murdered since he never came back from his mission. He actually cared very much for him, but he always covered that up, since he thought compassion was a weakness. When he and Zero went on their first mission to kill a Level E, it turned out that his brother was actually bitten by a Pureblood all this time, so Kaito had to kill his own brother. He'd rather wanted to kill his brother by himself then letting someone else do it, but it had deeply affected him. Kaito trained under Yagari with Ichiru and Zero after his former teacher was wounded, this is prior to Yagari losing his eye. During that time, Kaito picked on Ichiru for his physical weakness and Zero for his softness. Later, Zero and Kaito become more friendly.
PLOT SUMMARY
Kaito was invited to the academy by Kaien at the insistence of Yagari under the guise of being a student teacher, however it is really because they are relying on his competence as a skilled hunter to assist the updated Hunters Association's organization. Kaito makes his own plans, he invites Yori to sneak into the party revealing to Zero that he intends to use her as bait to stir up the vampires, however he intended to protect her. Kaito later admits that he also was testing Zero. He also told Zero that if any of the vampires shows signs to harm Yori, Zero can go and kill that vampire.
Kaito reveals his purpose is to watch over Zero, to look for any failing that might render him as unsuitable for becoming president of the hunters association. He then finds a gun under Zero's pillow and questions its use, when Zero states he uses it as insurance after Yuki's departure, Kaito tells him that he is now Zero's insurance.
Kaito accompanies Zero to Dahlia Academy and notes after Zero's encounter with Sara that Zero looks too much like a vampire who lost its prey. He then forces Zero to take three days off and to visit his family's grave knowing that Zero would not have visited it since Ichiru was buried, he also reminds Zero to take the time to remind himself of the difference between being vampire and being a human, assuring Zero that some part of him must remain human.
Kaito berates Zero for returning early from his leave, but eagerly participates in the questioning of Hanabusa Aido, where he attempts to use a chainsaw on the vampire (whether or not he was serious is unknown, although it certainly seemed he was). He continues to attend Cross Academy and participate in their security.

Zero Kiryu
Kaito has a decent working relationship with Zero. He seems to make jokes where he is either attempting to get a rise from Zero or he forgets that Zero is a vampire.
Ichiru Kiryu
In Vampire Knight Novella "Season of Transcience", Kaito seems to dislike Ichiru because he gets in their way because he is ill and sickly.

Though appearing to be a cold and cruel man, he showed some concern for his grandson Takuma, and said that he had wanted Takuma to be his successor in the Council. He also expressed intense dislike for the purebloods, due to fear of their power over other vampires. His age and demeanor brings fear to many other vampires.
His taste in women is classy yet mischievious.
APPEARANCES
Asato Ichijo has the same coloured hair as his grandson Takuma Ichijo, pale blonde. But rather than having green eyes, his are Icy blue. Asato is said to be very old, but has the appearance of a man in his 40s.
BACKGROUND
He was the head of the most distinguished clan of aristocrats and one of the oldest vampires on the council. Asato made the Ichijo Group so large that today all human business transactions involve his company.
He wanted to become Kaname's guardian after the death of Kaname's parents, but Kaname did not accept. He has allowed Takuma to attend Cross Academy for the purpose of spying on Kaname.
PLOT SUMMARY
Ichio visits the school to warn Takuma about his involvement with Kaname, warning him that Kaname threatens the regime of the council. Kaname and the other vampires pay their respects to Ichio.
Ichio is later revealed to be involved with the president of the hunter association. He invited Takuma to meet with the Shiki who has been taken control by Rido Kuran refering to him as the real ruler of the vampires.
After Kaname's destruction, he faces Kaname and reveals he knows that Kaname is one of the ancestors. Ichio declares that he believed everything he did was right and claims that Kaname is the one at fault, before he can elaborate, Takuma interrupts them and says that he does not believe the ends justify the means and decides to end it for both of them and kills his grandfather.
RELATIONSHIPS
Takuma Ichijo
Takuma Ichijo was his grandson and he intended to pass down the Senior Council to him once he passes away. He attempts to make Takuma spy on Kaname but the latter does not wish to do anything bad to his friend. In the wake of Rido's attack on Cross Academy, his grandson approaches him, siding with Kaname and ultimately kills him.
Kaname Kuran
Kaname Kuran was under his care ever since his parents died. He wants to become Kaname's ward but the former refuses the offer. He is against the idea of Kaname's existence and the power he can wield over the rest of the vampire society.

HISTORY
It is revealed in 38th Night that Juri and Haruka have been together for almost 3000 years, ever since Juri was born. Haruka fell in love with Juri and pursued her dogmatically until she eventually returned his affections. It was apparent that Juri was initally irritated by Haruka advances. After Haruka and Juri got together, they decided to start a family and Kaname was their first child. However, their brother, Rido, had kidnapped and murdered Kaname partially for revenge but, mainly to awaken Kaname the Ancestor leaving Haruka and Juri to raise the ancestral Kaname as their own. In fear of Rido taking their daughter Yuki, Haruka decided to hide Yuki's existence from the world until she was strong enough to protect herself.

Haruka shatters after embracing Kaname
The Kuran family's story is revealed in the 38th Night that Rido had come back to the Mansion after discovering Yuki's existence to do the same thing he had done to Kaname. Haruka defends his family as he fights Rido but is eventually wounded by a Hunter 's sword. Kaname comes and acts as a human baricade between Rido and Haruka but the latter states that it would shatter his pride as a parent if he allowed Kaname to defend him. After a short conversation between them, Haruka calls Kaname his adorable son and shatters as he dies.
RELATIONSHIPS
Juri Kuran
Juri was Haruka's sister, wife and lover. Haruka was in love with Juri for a very long time, but after all his effort, Juri finally fell for him. They got married and have two children that is Yuki and Kaname.
Kaname Kuran
Kaname does'nt seem to interact with Haruka alot and does'nt seem to treat as a father like calling him Haruka than calling Otou-sama( father in respectful manners). But even if Kaname treats him that way, he still loves him like his own son. When Haruka was seriously injured by Rido, Kaname seem to care for Haruka and even seem to attempt revenge for him when he died.

The Vampire Knight fanbook mentions that of all things purebloods can do, Haruka specialized in the power to morph into the flesh, bodies, etc. of others. This power is shown during his battle with Rido and followers.

Yuki's and Kaname's mother and a pureblood vampire who resembles an older version of Yuki. She was the beloved wife and sister of Haruka Kuran and the younger sister of Rido Kuran.

Juri is described as a cheerful and strong woman who puts her family first[1]. She was mischievous and playful and enjoys teasing Kaname. Even though Juri and Yuki has the same appearance, they have very different personalities. Juri is blunt, easily irritated by Haruka and sometimes loud and fierce when she losses her temper. She is very passionate about things that matter to her as she vehemently objected to Kaien's plan to kill all vampires declaring that not all vampires were bad and physically opposed him. She is described by Isaya Shouto and Kaien Cross as like the very blaze of the sun. Outspoken and high spirited, Juri was dedicated to her dreams of a peaceful existence with humans.

Ten years ago when her eldest brother Rido Kuran tresspassed into the Kuran residence and wanted Yuki for his own gain. To protect her daughter, she sacrificed her life to suppress Yuki's vampire side and erased her memories. She had wanted Yuki to be able to live a happy normal human girl life. Her last wish was for Kaname to protect Yuki. Headmaster Kaien Cross stated that he is in debt to her so he decided to adopt Yuki for her sake.

Haruka Kuran
Haruka Kuran is Juri's beloved brother and husband. Probably a few decades ago (it was never clear), Juri never seem to really liked Haruka probably because of his persistence to get together that irritates her. But probably because of his persistence, Juri finally fell in love with him. They eventually got married and have kids together.
Rido Kuran
Though Rido was in love with Juri and even drank her blood (though it was by force when she cried out in pain for Haruka to save her), its unknown what sort of relationship they had at that time. After he stole her first child, Kaname, away, she harboured a great deal of anger towards him. Rido continued to desire Juri even after her death and sought Yuki as a replacement for her. His attachment to Juri bordered more on obsession than on love.
Kaien Cross
Kaien Cross and Juri met as enemies. Kaien tried to kill her but failed to do so, he was seen seriously injured by Juri but decided to let him off because she didn't want to kill anybody while she was pregnant. Kaien seems to have develope some feelings for Juri. He even adopted her daughter Yuki because he feels he is in debt to her.

Juri possesses all the powers that Purebloods, such as immortality and the ability to heal from anything excluding anti-vampire weapon wounds to the heart or head. Juri excels in spells. This futher shown as she was the one to seal away Yuki's vampire side and turn into a human. Juri has the ability to wield anti-vampire weapons and used the Artemis in its scythe form.
Rido Kuran 玖蘭 李土
A pureblood vampire and one of the major antagonists of the Vampire Knight series. He was the eldest brother of Haruka and Juri Kuran. With his reappearance, it is revealed that he is the true head of the Kuran family, not Kaname. He is also the uncle of Yuki and Kaname Kuran.

Rido had the typical Kuran features, which resembles his younger brother Haruka Kuran and his nephew Kaname Kuran. He is a little taller than his brother and has red-brown curly hair that stop roughly at his shoulders. His most interesting characteristics are, of course, his eyes. With complete heterochromia iridium, his left eye appears mahogany reminiscent of the colour of the rest of the Kurans. However, his right eye is an icy blue. This is a trait he has passed on to his son, Senri Shiki.
PERSONALITY
Rido is a very entitled character who takes pleasure in antagonising others. He believes in indulging his desires and that to have power is to crave more and there is nothing wrong in simply taking more power. Lascivious, self-centered and cruel, Rido is powerful and not hesitant to use that for his own gain and the destruction of others. One would be hard pressed to find an atrocity he wouldn’t commit.
BACKGROUND
Born over 3,000 years ago, he was in love with his sister, Juri Kuran whom rejected him. Until his "death", he continued to desire her. He even drank Juri's blood at some point, but described that she cried out in pain for Haruka to save her, and he merely enjoyed it. He did however continue to have other lovers including Senri Shiki's mother, with whom he fathered Shiki, though not marrying her. He was engaged to Shizuka Hio, who did not love him and vice-versa.
Sometime during the past, he stole the Kuran's first child away (the orginal Kaname) and sacrificed the child's flesh and blood to awaken the ancestor Kaname intending to devour the ancestor, instead he was attacked and drained by the starved ancestor and unconscious. Following that he was held by the council, more to protect him from Juri than the other way around.
Yuki is also shown to have nightmares of Rido's eyes staring at her as if he wanted to "eat" her, suggesting that he has the ability to enter and manipulate a person's subconciousness. Ten years ago he attacked the Kuran's, attempting to take the Kuran princess and managed to kill his brother, but failed at taking Yuki. Kaname Kuran confronted him, Rido revealed that despite Kaname's desire, he was unable to kill Rido, because Rido was his master who awoke him from his slumber. Instead Kaname "obliterated" Rido's body, leaving him to slowly recover.
During the 10 years that followed, his powers to transfer his soul was retained and he managed to continue interfering in other people's lives. In order to subdue Shizuka's spirit like Shiki's mother, he was able to get her lover's name on the hunter's list and worked with Asato Ichijo.
PLOT SUMMARY
Rido is introduced to the story in the disguise of a little vampire child who lures Yuki to a back alley and then steals some of her life essence, causing her to pass out. He reappears at the Vampire party held by Aido's father, causing Yuki to follow him to the main hall. He stays in this body until Shiki returns home and Rido then transfers to his son's body.
Rido attends Cross Academy in Senri's body with Takuma Ichijo at his side, who is forced to protect Shiki. Ichiru Kiryu also reveals he is working for Rido, attempting to engineer Rido's plan of giving his blood to Yuki to awaken her memories. He confronts his distasteful nephew, Kaname and thanks him for getting rid of Shizuka for him. Rido then taunts him until Kaname runs off to Yuki's side.
Rido is not bothered by Yuki's awakening as a vampire. Rima Toya then confronts him, trying to get Shiki to take back the control of his body. Rido hurts Rima and reveals that he could now engineer Ichijo's wish to dispatch the resistance to the council. Shiki fights Rido's control and Rido retires. Kaname then uses his blood to fully revive Rido's body. The next day, Rido's body has recovered and his vampires start arriving at the school, finding victims to feed to Rido. Following his awakening, Ichiru takes his sword and tries to kill Rido as revenge for Shizuka, he knows it a weak effort and Rido counters him easily, dealing him a mortal blow.
Once Rido is fully recovered he goes to find prey, he spies Aido and commands him, Aido falls for it, but is saved from Rido's clutches by Yuki. Seeing Yuki he tries to lull her into his arms, but she is saved in turn by Aido. Yuki turns to face Rido in a fight, when he is simultaneously attacked by Zero. He reveals to Yuki that Zero has eaten his twin and calls Zero his prey. Both Yuki and Zero viciously attack Rido, Zero flings Yuki off the building and attempts to finish Rido himself. They destroy the building, as it comes down, Rido spares one last glance for his son.
Back on the ground, Yuki and Zero once again fight against Rido together, Rido expresses one last desire for Yuki, in place of her mother before he is stabbed through the chest by her scythe.
After his death, Rido appears to exist in a shadow form that exists as a part of Kaname, currently seen only by Kaname and taunting him about his precious Yuki.
In the anime, Rido is confronted by all the Night Class students, but they were unable to harm him since he is a Pureblood vampire. Rido attemtped to feed on Yuki's blood to increase his power, but the Kuran princess was able to push him back with her vampiric Artemis. When Zero interferes with Rido's thirst for Yuki, Rido witnesses Zero's Vampire Hunter power about to explode uncontrollably, but was suppressed and maintained by Yuki's Artemis. Upon controlling his unrivaled power, Zero goes to kill Rido, but the Pureblood Kuran escapes from his death. While in the woods to recover, Rido is confronted by Kaname, yet can only severely injure but not kill him. Zero arrives in late, and Kaname and Zero face off against Rido. The battle ends with Rido's death by Zero's hands, and is left to dust by his hunter's Bloody Rose gun.

Juri Kuran
Juri is Rido's younger sister. Rido was in love with Juri to the point of obsession and his hobby was his "Juri Collection" They appear to have an amical relationship until Rido kills her firstborn child, following that Juri wants to kill him.
Kaname Kuran
Rido became Kaname's master after Rido awakened the ancestor from his eternal slumber. Rido found he could not control the ancestor who became too strong, but the ancestor was unable to kill him.
Haruka Kuran
Haruka is Rido's younger brother. They appeared to have an amical relationship until Rido killed Haruka's first child. Rido killed Haruka ten years before the start of the story, when Rido was trying to take Yuki and Haruka tried to stop him.
POWERS
Rido posseses the pureblood immortality and ability to heal from any wound aside from a anti-vampire weapon to the head or heart. His powers include morphing his body, using his blood as a weapon (the 'Blood Whip') and the pureblood ability to transfer his soul into anothers body (possession), and the body will retain his eyes.
Shizuka Hio 緋桜 閑
The pureblood vampire who bit Zero Kiryu; even her fellow vampires felt uneasy around her and refered to her as the "Flowers-blooming-out-of-season princess" or "Kuruizaki-hime."

Shizuka Hio possessed unnatural beauty like all the other purebloods. She appeared to be in her late twenties. In the anime, she had straight, long, silvery-white hair and eyes that were an unusually beautiful shade of pink that resembled cherry blossoms. She was always shown clad in traditional Japanese clothing, such as a kimono. Around her waist, she wore a thin ribbon with a small bell, that Ichiru later uses in his hair after her death. She is noted to always walk around in barefoot.
PERSONALITY
She usually appeared calm and composed, and smiled as if amused when taunting or talking to Zero. Her gentle movements gave her a striking presence. Cherry blossoms often accompany her presence, even if they should be out of season, like when she first met the Kiryuu twins.
While possessing Maria Kurenai's body, Ichiru notes that her actions in Maria's body were different than her normal calm and composed demeanor, such as when she playfully toys around with Ichiru's feelings and when she interacts with the Night Class. This shows a bit of Shizuka's playful side, even though Ichiru seemed displeased with it.
BACKGROUND
As the Hio family was known to have its family members going insane at a point of time, Shizuka - being a member of the Hio family - was locked in a cage like all other members and given human sacrifices daily as food. Once, she was given a man, whom she instantly thought was "not food but someone to talk with". She proceeded to turn him into a vampire and her manservant. She fell in love with him.
Tragically, the manservant was falsely classified by the Hunter's Association as a Level E and was assigned to be killed by the Kiryu vampire hunters. Enraged and vengeful, she attacked the Kiryu family, killing both parents, biting Zero (which subsequently turned him into a vampire), and taking Zero's twin, Ichiru, as a devoted servant. She was originally Rido Kuran's fiancée but held strong feelings of hatred for him, and it was revealed that she wanted more power to kill him herself. Later in the manga, when Rido spoke of her death, he mentioned that it was a relief, and that when alive, she had refused to "submit to" him. They never married due to Rido's disappearance and finally her death. It was later found out that some of her hate was targeted at him as he was the mastermind who deliberately organised for her "lover"'s name to be put on the list of Level E vampires to be killed, even though he hadn't fallen into that state yet. Maria Kurenai was one of her very distant relatives.
PLOT SUMMARY
Shizuka dying in the anime
Because Shizuka's blood can prevent Zero from falling to Level E, Yuki had once risked her life and humanity for Zero to be able to drink Shizuka's blood (This was because Shizuka gave her a deal to either let her drink her blood or bring Kaname's corpse to her. Seeing as she didn't want to harm Kaname, whom she cared about, Yuki chose the other path). However, to protect Yuki, Kaname kills Shizuka and drinks her blood, leaving only a small amount for Zero to drink. Unfortunately, the blood is drunk by Ichiru, who arrived to find Shizuka first. Before dying, Shizuka warns Kaname that he will live in darkness and has summoned a sinister future for himself by drinking the blood of another Pureblood. In additon, she tells Ichiru to devour her so that she will always be a part of him as she slowly disperses into glittering-substances (a difference in the Anime from the Manga) and proceeds to shatter. It is revealed that she deeply respected him and was quite fond of him, thus reluctant to bite him, as she refuses to let someone she cares be cursed like that.

Aside from immortality and healing from all wounds except anti-vampire weapon wounds to the heart and the head, Shizuka has the ability to manipulate plants which explains why cherry blossoms fall when Shizuka appears.

Nagamichi was a typical aristocrat. He respects all the purebloods and obediently follows direction. He is also quite naive to introduce his noble daughter to Kaname knowing he might reject her.
BACKGROUND
Nagamichi was the head of the Aido family, which alongside the Ichijo family is one of the highest placed aristocratic families. Nagamichi was a supporter of the monarchy and in spite of his doubts after the killing of the Elder Council, he worked with Kaname to establish a new leadership. Nagamichi is the proud father of three daughters and one son.
PLOT SUMMARY
Aido first appears during the vampire ball. He presents his daughter, Tsukiko as a possible mistress to Kaname Kuran, to his son's, Hanabusa 's, extreme embarassment. Following Kaname's destruction of the council, Aido recieves the news and concerned over his actions.
Aido later shows up a year later as a colleague of Kaname, supporting his new rule of vampire society. Following Hanabusa's arrest by the Hunters, he confesses to Kaname his concerns over his son and requests that Kaname look into Sara's activities. He makes a comment regarding sacrifices and he lets Kaname know, that he is aware of Kaname's participation in the worst crime against purebloods that occured prior to Shizuka's escape. He later expresses embarassment over Yuki's apologies regarding leaving his son behind. He then asks her if she is able to go against Kaname if necessary to which Yuki cannot reply positively. Aido leaves but spies Sara's car and ends up following her.
Sara discovers Aido's presence at the Hanadagi estate and encourages him to follow her, revealing that she would have used his blood to awaken Hanadagi if necessary. Aido is left behind after she takes Hanadagi's heart and Hanadagi questions him, later attempting to compel Aido to give his blood to Hanadagi in order for the pureblood to absorb his memories, the action is interupted by Kaname who swiftly kills the pureblood. Aido is shocked by this and further shocked when Kaname asks him why pureblood's lives have been held so sacredly, Aido objects believing the purebloods are necessary to control the vampires and Kaname disagrees asking if they can be so foolish. Kaname tells Aido one last thing and Aido bows his head before Kaname, as he chops off Aido's head in front of Kaien, Yuki and Hanabusa. Nagamichi turns to ash and his son kneels at his ashes.
SHIKI
Senri Shiki's mother is the former mistress to Rido Kuran. In her youth she was a famous and respected actress, inspiring Rima Toya to become a model. After her affair with Rido, she grew mentally unstable and unable to care for herself properly.

PERSONALITY
Little is known about her, as she only vaguely appears in the manga and anime. From what little seen, she appears docile and mentally unstable. When Senri was young, she hurled her emotions at him and forced Senri–unintentionally, of course–to become doll-like and to protect his mother and not worry her further. Senri describes her as spoiled when she demands blood from him. Rido described her as easily controlled.
BACKGROUND
She at some point became involved with Rido Kuran and gave birth to his son. She used to be a famous actress. Her son Senri was scouted at the agency when she took him with her. He then followed in her footsteps and became a model.
SUMMARY
She was introduced when Senri briefly visited home during the school break. She advised Senri that his uncle wanted him to succeed him since he has no children of his own, she then demands to drink some of Senri's blood.
TSUKIKO AIDO 藍堂 月子
The daughter of Lord Aido. Her younger brother is Hanabusa Aido, which makes her Akatsuki Kain's cousin as well. Little is known about her. She is a Level B Aristocrat Vampire, but not a student of the Cross Academy.

BACKGROUND
Hanadagi and his family had been sleeping for a hundred years, intending to sleep for five hundred when Kaname sent Ruka and Kain to seek them out.
PLOT SUMMARY
Hanadagi was disturbed in his sleep by Sara, who awakened him in his coffin by pulling out his heart. Hanadagi retaliates by tearing off her arm and Sara escapes. Hanadagi lures Nagamichi Aido in to replenish his strength and take Aido's memories, but before he can do so, Kaname breaks the spell and plunges his anti-vampire sword into Hanadagi without warning, killing him.
POWERS
Like all purebloods, Hanadagi is immortal and able to heal from anything except for a anti-vampire weapon attack to the heart or the head.
KIRYU'S ( ZERO'S PARENTS )
They were Zero and Ichiru's parents and were also Vampire Hunters They were murdered by Shizuka Hio in revenge of killing her ex-human vampire lover.
APPEARANCE
The father bears a striking resemblance to Zero and Ichiru in terms of hair and skin coloring. The mother has long blondish-brown hair tied in a low ponytail.
HISTORY
Both Kiryus are high-ranking Vampire Hunters, and are the parents of Zero and Ichiru Kiryu. Despite loving both their sons dearly, the Kiryus felt Ichiru's illness and lack of natural talent in comparison to Zero would prevent him from becoming a Hunter. For this reason, they focused more of their time on developing Zero's skills as a Hunter, giving Ichiru the impression they favored Zero over him. Ichiru's resentment over his parents' seemingly preferential treatment of his brother would have tragic consequences later on and lead to the destruction of the Kiryu family. These events would be set in motion the night the Kiryus were assigned to kill an ex-human vampire who they'd been told had fallen to Level E. Unfortunately, the Kiryus were lied to and had been used as pawns by Rido Kuran to kill the ex-human vampire who had become his fiancée, Shizuka Hio's lover. Shizuka's grief over the death of her lover would drive her to insanity, and later, to revenge. With the assistance of Ichiru, who had become captivated by her, Shizuka killed both Kiryu's, bit Zero, and took Ichiru away.
THE HOODED WOMAN
Not much is known about the Hooded Woman, including her name. Though many of the details of their relationship have yet to be revealed, it's strongly suggested that she was the first woman with whom Kaname Kuran had a relationship in his deep past prior to re-awakening. She was a Pureblood Vampire and an Ancestor.
APPEARANCES
A woman with straw coloured hair, she wore it partially in braids. She always wore a hood in the style common to the ancestors, underneath she wore practical leggings that allowed comfortable horse riding.
PERSONALITY
However, despite all her work on behalf of purebloods, she also respected humans since she was born from human parents. She was controlling and dominating, enough that she was able to criticise Kaname and push him into doing things and he was compliant in her hands.
CHARACTER BACKGROUND
The vampire hunters revere her as the woman who sacrificed herself to give her their powers, though they simultaneously feel guilt for consuming her, believing this is the cause of their 'curse'.
Though little is known about her, she was one of the first vampires instrumental in gathering together the scattered purebloods, including Kaname Kuran, and forming the beginnings of vampire society. She acted as a friend and mentor towards Kaname and worried over his solitary tendencies.
Her sacrifice helped create the Vampire Hunters, and in the 69th Night, Yuki observes that the Hooded Woman's presence still lingers over Vampire Hunter headquarters.
PLOT SUMMARY
Through a series of experiments, Kaname discovers that the only thing which can kill purebloods is the flesh and blood of other purebloods. Firmly against the idea of humans being harmed, and also worried that Kaname intends to sacrifice himself in the creation of anti-vampire weapons, the Hooded Woman chooses to sacrifice herself instead. She gives the humans her blood and throws her own heart into a vat of molten metal. The blood she gave the humans made them stronger, and the metal she threw her heart in is used to create the first anti-vampire weapons, including Zero Kiryu's Bloody Rose gun, and Yuki Cross's Artemis rod. The Hooded Woman then dies in front of Kaname, exclaiming before her death that "It seems the only thing that can kill us, is ourselves." Kaname becomes distressed over her loss and is filled with remorse over his inability to protect her, worsened by his plan to use himself as the sacrifice.
VAMPIRE HUNTER ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT
APPEARANCE
The president has the very lady-like appearance, but uses gender neutral language and has a male actor in the anime. However, she is a woman, proven by Yuuki addressing her as a 'she' in the manga (Chapter 27 Pg 22 in the English version). She has olive green eyes, pale purple grey hair, that is partly tied up, and a light complextion. However, the woman is not a vampire. She wears long dresses and carries a fan, covering her mouth with it. When it is time, she has to drink a vampire's blood to maintain her extreme feminine look.
CHARACTER BACKGROUND
Not much is known about her including her full name. She keeps her beauty by drinking vampires blood.
PLOT SUMMARY
The president discusses Zero Kiryu with Kaien Cross and declines to protect him from The president conspired with Asato Ichijo, she maintains that his efforts were to ensure the protection of the Vampire hunters, but in doing so, she also gained pureblood.
The pureblood that she drank however, asserted control over her instead as Kaien discovers when the president is cut by a sword that can only hurt vampires.
ANIME ONLY
She was last seen with cracked skin, possibly because her appearance was turning back, and begging Asato Ichijo for his blood, who later kills her.

It is not known what specific powers she has. However, as a vampire hunter, she has the ability to sense vampires and wield anti-vampire weapons.
Sara Shirabuki 白蕗 更
A pureblood vampire and the head of the Shirabuki family, one of the seven last remaining pureblood families left.
Sara Shirabuki posesses the unnatural beauty of the purebloods and appears to be in her late teens, but she is actually slightly older than Kaname. She has wavy blond hair that falls to her feet around her and light blue eyes and usually wears long European dresses. Sara is one of the few female characters who are fairly tall.
PERSONALITY
Sara is a graceful pureblood, who appears soft-spoken among her fellow vampires. Sara has a duplicitous nature, appearing refined in front of her peers while having secret goals of becoming the Queen of the vampires. She refers to herself as impatient and is sadistic when she takes pleasure in giving Takuma pain. She is determined not to fall prey to the Purebloods' habit of losing purpose, which is why she is making her bid to become Queen. She surrounds herself with servants and she seems to enjoy their attention as they spoil her.
Her type of man is "Kaname" and her hobbies include shopping.
STORY PLOT
She first appears at a party held by the Aido family, and is greeted by the vampires present, surprising them all with her presence since it seems that she does not often attend parties. She is also an old acquaintance of Kaname Kuran as it seems they knew each other before Kaname started school, and as they greet each other, she tells him that they, purebloods, should stick together.
Sara goes to the council building after Kaname's massacre and finds an unconscious Takuma after his confrontation with his grandfather, Asato Ichijo. She states that she is happy to have one of Kaname's "soldiers", since she had planned to persuade Ichio to give Takuma to her, and is planning to use Takuma to discover what Kaname's plans are. Takuma refuses to betray Kaname, she violently tears at his already injured chest to draw blood and torment him. When both Takuma and Sara receive invitations from Kaname for the vampire ball, Sara realises that Kaname is aware that Takuma is under Sara's care and she wonders what Kaname is planning and who is more dangerous Kaname or herself.
Sara shows up at Kaname and Yuki's party, where she meets Sayori Wakaba, lending her a hand, but Zero intercedes harshly smelling blood on her. Yuki intervenes on Sara's behalf and after the humans leave, Sara comments that Yori looks tasty, Yuki asks Sara not to say such things about her friend and Sara quickly advises all the vampires present that Yori is not to be touched and says she would like to be great friends since there are only few purebloods left. When she leaves to greet Kaname, they play word games revealing that Kaname is aware that Sara has killed her fiance, Ori at the party. Her motive was revealed to become queen of the vampires.
Sara enrols at Dahlia Academy Girls School, masquerading as Takuma Ichijo's little sister. During the guided visits she meets three girls and then she feigns a dizzy spell and asks that her 'brother' finishes the tour in her stead. Sara she enters the music suite of a human named Yukari and convinces her to become a vampire. Zero finds her at the school aware of her recent actions but is unable to do anything against her because she has followed the rules. Aware of Zero's burning desire to either kill her, she further taunts him telling him he reeks of the Kuran's blood and invites him to join her since they have thrown him away.
Over the next few days, Sara quickly begins turning a lot of girls at the school with the assistance of the other school girls creating a harem to Takuma's disgust and Sara's amusement. She then visits Takuma's grandfather's factory that creates blood tablets and the president there is concerned about Sara's involvement. Takuma eventually discovers that Sara has been biting humans inlcuding the company president without permission and has them locked up in her house, but Sara catches him. Alone, Sara broke into Hanadagi-sama's castle, and obtained his heart, the organ that has the most power.
RELATIONSHIPS
Takuma Ichijo
Sara has shown interest in Takuma Ichijo, since she had planned to persuade Asato Ichijo to give Takuma to her before she found him. Takuma Ichijo describes Sara as capricious and short-tempered, but having her cute sides too. However recently, she used her command powers on him showing that he is most definitely her subordinate. She has no issue with revealing all her dark plans to him.
Ouri
He was Sara's fiance, who is much older then her. He rarely pays attention to Sara as he still sees her as a little girl. She eventually kills him for her own ambitions, though he was ready to die.
POWERS

ISAYA SHOTO 菖藤 依早弥
A 2000 year old pureblood vampire. He had just recently woken up from a 50 year slumber.

PERSONALITY
Isaya's personality is one that is very calm and collected. Isaya thinks things out rationally and has become very wise over the span of his long life. But it seems that he also has a comical side as shown with Kaien.
BACKGROUND
Not much is known about Isaya's past, even though he is 2000 years old. But it seems that Isaya knew Juri Kuran before she passed away as he mentioned that she was like the very blaze of the sun. He is also old friends with Kaien Cross, which he seems to know that he has been raising Juri's child and also about his past as a vampire hunter.
Isaya also mentioned that he had a wife and children. They are believed to be deceased since Isaya's wife turned their offspring into humans. The offspring then turned old and passed away, leaving him all alone to become a spectator.
Isaya slept for 50 years prior to the story start and woke just shortly after the vampire party.
PLOT SUMMARY
Isaya is the first pureblood Yuki Kuran and Hanabusa Aido visit on Yuki's mission. After hearing Yuki's speech, Isaya responds by saying that many people will view this as a reckless and foolish move; that he could be the one to chop off her head instead. She says that she knows that this could have been the worst option to take, but even if it saves one person then it would be worth it. With that said she turns to leave, but before she can, Isaya asks if she could really kill someone with that thing. After she reassures him that she could, she and Hanabusa leave Isaya's residence.
Once Yuki leaves, it is revealed that Kaien is also present. Isaya mentions that when he first met him, he thought that that he would turn out just like himself and become a 'spectator on the sidelines', instead of causing ripples in the surface. He also says that he has too much time and nothing to do, something common among the purebloods. Once Kaien leaves, he finally has his first meal from his awakening, served by his maid.
POWERS
Like all purebloods, Isaya has an accelerated healing power and is immortal.
