Negima!? Mahora Girls' Jr. High Class 2/3-A 17-24

SHIINA SAKURAKO  椎名 桜子
Student Number 17. Birthday: 9 June 1988.
She is the most cheerful of the three cheerleaders in the class. She likes Negi, but only because she thinks he is cute. She loves karaoke and her pet cats, Cookie and Biscuit (translated as Kukki and Bikke in katakana) and is in the lacrosse club. As a hobby, Sakurako gambles a lot (it was probably a habit instilled in her younger days). She wins her bets most of the time, with great profit, as seen when the Love-Love Kiss Operation concluded and it was discovered that she was the only one who bet on Nodoka to win. She had also bet on her class to get the highest scores during the final exams. She has been in the same class as Asuna and Ayaka for a very long time, so she knows a lot about them (and bets when they fight since Asuna first transferred). A recent chapter also shows that she was known to Yuna from elementary school as well. During the "Mages vs the Martian Attacks" game, she is stripped to her underwear along with her cheerleader compatriots. She is shown to fantasize to the point where it is nonsensical. This is displayed when it is found out that most magic partners marry each other and the rumor that Negi is a prince, she instantly believes that she is going to be a princess in waiting and is the first to throw herself at him when he comes into the class moments later. On another note, she seems to have a enormous amount of luck. Aside from her gambling tendencies, it was because of her that the normal students (the cheerleading squad, Makie, Yuna, Akira, Ako and Natsumi) were able to find the gateport to enter the Magical World. As McGuiness said, "The likelihood is as good as winning the lottery". The girls also called Sakurako a "Daimyoujin" and said that she was Mahora's Lucky Mask as they asked her for indications as they were lost in the fog. A Daimyoujin is a title for Shinto demigods. Akamatsu also said that if she was ever to form a pactio with Negi, she would be the master of luck.

Synopsis
Journey to the magic world
Sakurako was with Ayaka's group who travel to England and Negi's hometown. She and the other cheerleaders along with sport girls and Natsumi follow Ala Alba to the gateway, on the way they got lost in the fog but using Sakurako's luck, they somehow pass through. Accord to Donnette, this is like won the rarest lottery. Though while near the gate, she and the cheerleaders somehow didn't make it through and still stay at England instead of Magicus Mundus.
When the group were informed to return to Mahora Sakurako was among the people who saw the Gravekeeper Palace in the sky and guess it was Magic Castle from Magical Country. She was brought along to Magicus Mundus this time along with the rest of the class by Zazie in order to wake Asuna up.

Epilogue
She, like the rest of the class, assists Negi in saving Nagi and defeating the Mage of the Beginning. Making the best use of her characteristic clear intuition, she works at a securities company. The results of her getting serious apparently affect the world ecomony and Negi´s Plan going well or badly. She is now getting on with work reasonably, prioritizing the days off that she spends with her friends. Fate is seriously considering whether this power can be pointed in a positive direction.

Pactio Cards
Hilaratrix Fortunans: It is revealed in Chapter 353 that Sakurako has made a pactio, when negi sneezed, and all the girls lose their clothes, they activated the pactio cards. including Sakurako. Akamatsu said if he were to make her one, she would have the ability to increase luck.

Negima!: Hilaratrix Fortunans: Dressed in her cheerleader outfits and is able to empower the others with cheers. In Satsuki's case, she was able to make her go faster to feed a huge crowd of demons.

Dog

Dressed in a Japanese themed samba dancer outfit . She wears a green-pink tropical clothes with a corolla-like skirt with a small cherry plant for a head dress and blue-tinted shades. Her artifact is a maraca. Her costume is probably inspired by Carmen Miranda.

Brilliant Invocation: She is dressed in a school uniform with attack marbles, like a heroine of Sukeban Deka. She throws the marbles as projectiles. The meaning of her attack name is unknown. (It should be noted that although she is the only cheerleader not to dress in this style of uniform in manga continuity, she most likely received this outfit to match her companions and their similarly themed Armor Pactio.)

TATSUMIYA MANA  龍宮 真名
Student Number 18.
The daughter of the Tatsumiya Shrine on the Mahora academy grounds. She has knowledge of magic even before Negi Springfield arrived. She is not what one describes as sociable, since she keeps to herself most of the time and does not engage in conversation. She is also a mercenary, and mostly takes on contracts that pertain to hunting/destroying/exorcising demons and ghosts but will take on any job as long as she is paid well (she employs guns with spellbreaker bullets as her tool of exorcism). Her assignment during the Mahora Festival was to prevent confessions of love from occurring, although Chao also employed her during the Mahora Fighting Tournament. When on the job, she is extremely serious and straightforward, which at times can make her seem cold-hearted and quite frightening. She discovered Negi's secret when she helped rescue Konoka at Kyoto. She is also in the Biathlon club, as her apparent crush is the club's captain. Mana has the third largest breasts in class, and is the tallest girl. As such, she (and Kaede) are often mistaken for being older than middle school students. Strangely, Graf Herrmann never captured her when he fought Negi and Kotarou under the World Tree.
Mana carries a pactio card, which is the remnant of a contract she had with a mage who is now deceased (whom the biathlon captain resembles, though she still shot him when he tried to confess to her). It should also be noted that the name written in Latin on her pactio card is "Mana Arkana" (arcana meaning "secret"). This, and an exchange with Chamo, seems to hint that Mana is attending Mahora under an assumed identity, and may even be older than she claims. Mana possesses certain abilities, one of which is her Demon-Eye, which allows her to see demons and spirits, (though she did not notice Sayo until much later). It is unclear if this ability is due to her former contract or some natural power. It is also shown in one panel that she is capable of story high building jumps (Chapter 86, Page 8). She also took part in the Mahora Fighting Tournament, but lost to Ku Fei. It is later shown that she may have thrown that fight, as Chao offered her some kind of payoff, but Mana turned it down saying that she was serious in the fight and she acknowledged Ku Fei's strength as the strongest of the group. It was later revealed that she took part in Chao's plan to reveal the existence of magic to the world, as she had prevented people like Takahata from interfering.

Story Plot
On the third day of the Mahora Festival, Mana carries out her contract with Chao, using her skills as a sniper to take out the more powerful mages, and even some of her fellow classmates who are participating in the "Mars Attacks vs. Mage Order" "game". But she found some resistance in Kaede, who separated from Negi's group to take her on. The duo continued to fight until Kaede caught her in her own time displacement bullets, and when they reappear, the battle is over. The two of them stop fighting and watch the end festivities of the festival. Later on, she appears to save Asuna from a demon (Chapter 275).
While traveling with Negi and her classmates to the Ostia ruins, Mana, Chisame, and Nodoka helped their teacher in figuring out that the Asuna that was with them was actually Shiori, who was buying time for her companions.Mana and Keade manage to block Zazie's sister's attack right before the gravity mines (provided by Chao) the sniper planted activated and smashed the high demon through the floor. Mana dives after her, knowing that Negi needs to conserve his strength. As the two plunge, Mana reveals her own trump card: Time dilation bullets and her own half demonfolk blood (that is the source of her abilities).

Epilogue
She, like the rest of the class, assists Negi in saving Nagi and defeating the Mage of the Beginning. The misgivings of Fate Averruncus naturally became real, as conflicts never ceased in any corner of the world after the implementation of Negi's Plan. In her long life, she crossed many battlefields, continuing her fight. She also took part in the war for Independence on Mars of the 22nd Century. This war is the reason for Asuna's delayed Awakening.

Abilities

Demon Eye - This allows Mana to see demons and spirits, though she did not notice Sayo until much later.
Marksmanship- Mana has incredible accuracy as shown throughout the series. She is capable of shooting various students in the head in order to prevent them from confessing during the Mahora Festival with a sniper rifle in a time-span of seconds. She is shown to be very efficient with guns, rifles and other armed weapons, as well as the use of coins as projectiles.

Magical Power- At first, it was unclear whether Mana's magical power is innate or due to her former contract. During her battle with Poyo Rainyday at the Gravekeeper's Palace, it was revealed that Mana has half demonfolk blood which is the source of her power.

Rakansen- A type of Chinese hidden weapon, basically throwing of the coins. Although a simple technique of throwing coins can be found everywhere, it is considered useful in combat. Mana has been shown to use this technique against Ku Fei during the Mahora Festival, due to the rules of the martial arts tournament. She fires them like a machine gun.

Guns- Mana owns and carries many varieties of guns. Guns she has used until now are listed in Mana's guns on the Objects page.

Alternate Dimensional Ammo Storage- This magic allows mana to store her ammo and various guns in her own dimension.

Pactio Cards
Vulnerans Semidiaboli: She originally had an artifact (a pair of pistols) from her previous contract with a mage, but since her partner is now deceased, she is no longer able to call forth her artifacts, nor is given any additional magic support (as stated in the English version of the manga). The guns she carries are not considered as her artifacts, but may be replicas of the original magic items. Mana is seen wearing a similar outfit to her Pactio after taking Age-Deceiving Pills to get into a movie at a child rate.

Negima!: A rifle that fires magic bullets

Asiatic Black Bear

Similar to her former manga Pactio card, the artifacts that she attacks with are two Desert Eagle handguns. She wears a sports jacket and long pants. This outfit was slightly similar to the one she wore in the manga when hunting down Sayo.

Infallible xxx: Dressed in a frilly white sleeveless dress and wielding a long rifle on one hand and a pistol on the other.

CHAO LINGSHEN 超 鈴音 (チャオリンシェン)
A fictional character from the manga series Negima!: Magister Negi Magi, created by Ken Akamatsu. The 19th student in Japanese alphabetical order of class 2/3-A, she initially appears as merely the genius of Mahora Academy, known for her brains, her athletic skills and the boss of a food stand specializing in Chinese delicacies. Later in the series, it is revealed that in actuality, Lingshen is a time traveler, arriving from the future and attempting to use her genius to change history by using the power of the World Tree during the Mahora Festival to reveal the existence of magic to the world, where she clashed with her (claimed) ancestor Negi Springfield during the Mahora Festival Arc. (Please be note that in terms of Mandarin Chinese, surname is pronounced first, and then follow by the First name.)
It should be noted that the character 音 in her name is never pronounced as shen in any Chinese language. Since the other two characters in her name seem to be pronounced in Mandarin, her name would have been correctly rendered as Chāo Líng-Yīn (Pinyin spelling with diatrics) in the said Chinese language. But the name "Lingshen" stuck and was never corrected. Her name literally means "Bell sound" in Mandarin.

In some official material, her name is equally romanized as Chao Rinshen, sometimes due to the discrepancies in pronouncing Chinese names in the Japanese language.

It is also noted that she is the only student voiced by two voice actresses as Megumi Takamoto took over the role from Chiaki Osawa. The reason Osawa did not reprise the role in the Spring and Summer OVAs and in Negima!? while everybody else did was an indefinite leave from voice acting due to her marriage. (In comparison, Setsuna has been portrayed by two live-action actresses.)

Background & Personality
Chao, at first glance, appears to be a slightly daffy, food-obsessed Chinese girl in the class, which is not at all representative of the power and prestige that she actually holds to the campus. Chao is known as the smartest girl of all the students in Negi Springfield's 2-A class at the moment of his arrival, as well as the smartest within the entire grade and possibly one of the smartest people in the entire Mahora Campus. As a genius, she chooses to spend her time within several different Mahora clubs, participating actively in the robotics research, Chinese medicine, life sciences and atomic research, all in the name of helping and improving. Her knowledge and abilities in robotics have allowed Chao to advance technology alongside her cohort, fellow genius and #2 in her class and grade Satomi Hakase, towards the invention of an army of machines and weaponry as well as the invention of fellow Mahora student and robot Chachamaru Karakuri (invented as a partner which required less magical energy to power for Evangeline due to the curse that keeps her within the campus with diminished powers). Chao is also a master of various Chinese martial arts, alongside Ku Fei, and displays a sufficient knowledge of her own abilities.
However, Chao's greatest and most notable work to the campus of Mahora is the opening and maintenance of the food stand known as Chao Bao Zi (超包子). Based out of a small cart that travels throughout campus, Chao Bao Zi is one of the most popular and notable food kiosks at Mahora, particularly known for the nikuman dumplings created by Chao as well as chef Satsuki Yotsuba. Besides the two of them, Satomi, Chachamaru and Ku Fei all work at the stand and make sure to help each other out appropriately. Chao's love of food does seem to get carried away with her happy-go-lucky personality, as she goes around selling nikuman even outside the confines of the stand and consistently works with Satomi to create new technology to distribute it around to those who want it (while using Ku Fei as their unfortunate test subject). And it is through the stand that Chao has been able to make a massive fortune, making her not only smart and well skilled but rich in the process.
Yet even with her happy, slightly oblivious personality, Chao possesses a darker, more determined side hidden by her light exterior. While she appears to be a normal, genius-level intellect Chinese girl, she is in actuality a time traveler from the future, who came to change history. Claiming to be born and raised on the planet Mars (of which she occasionally jokes in modern time with pictures or symbolisms of weird tentacled "Martian creatures"), she had likely experienced a life of turmoil and pain because of her connections with magic and being related to mages, and in fact, claims to be related to Negi Springfield. (It was likely that many future global entities misinterperated magical user's as a hostile or malevolent force.) Chao says that the reason behind this is because of the unknown factor of magic within humans. Therefore, in order to change the situation in her time, she decided to go back to the past and change history, even if it means exposing magic to humanity and ruining the name of her ancestor Negi. As a plotmaster, Chao shows a devious, colder, and darker side of her: she spends her time and effort, and makes all the necessary sacrifices needed to go about making sure her plan to reveal magic to the world goes smoothly, and Chao is not afraid to make alliances, sacrifices or battle against her friends and classmates all for the sake of changing her past to change her present, even to the point of using a self-torturing magic pattern to increase her magical power. However, Chao does show great respect to Negi and the rest of the students/mages that are opposing her plan, even as she is forced to fight against them for her plans to be complete.

Part in The Story
At the start of the series, Chao stays on the sidelines as Negi goes about his adventures and his relationships with other students in the class. While she does show some slight interest in him, it is more so as a spectator or her status as the owner of the Chao Bao Zi store, at one point wondering about whether "English boys like nikuman". However, with the impending arrival of the Mahora Festival on campus, she begins to make her move. After Negi saves her from a group of mages going after her for spying on the preparation meeting for the guardians of the school (primarily against Takane & Mei), she gives Negi a mysterious pocket watch to help him during the festival. The watch, in actuality a Casseopeia time machine powered by the magic of the World Tree during the Mahora Festival, allowed Negi (and anyone around him) to travel back to any time earlier within a day in order to partake in other events in and around campus, thus allowing him to relive the same day several times. When her intentions are questioned, particularly by Setsuna Sakurazaki, Chao fakes her reasonings and just tries to say its merely for fun.
Within the Mahora Festival itself, Chao and her restaurant was the primary sponsor of the Mahora Fighting Tournament and offered a cash prize of ¥10,000,000 to the winner. She had come into conflict with the school administration for spying and trying to reveal the existence of magic to the world at large, and even went as far as imprisoning Takahata and "Mini" Setsuna when they started to investigate the truth of the tournament. She also leaked details of Negi's search for his father, which, combined with his performance in the festival tournament, turned him into an instant celebrity. Her intentions are mostly kept secret until she carried out her plan (although world domination is listed as her primary interest, she dislikes war, hatred, and the unilateral control of major powers (i.e. NATO or the United Nations.), but even Evangeline warns Asuna that Chao's kind of evil is far worse than her own. Chao later reveals her intention to quit school and return home on the last day of the Festival, and says that if she missed that chance, she would not be able to return home for another 22 years. Chao has often claimed that she is a Martian to those who have asked, more specifically that she is from a Martian colony a hundred years in the future, and that she is a descendant of Negi. Hints given in her own words to her friends, plus the spell pattern on her body, imply that the future she comes from may not be a happy one.
Chao sets a trap for Negi during the festival, confining him and his partners inside of Evangeline's resort for a whole week. This gave her the opportunity to deploy a massive army of robots and capture several key points on the Mahora campus, and using 11 other 'holy' locations around the world, activated a powerful spell to cause people to freely recognize the existence of magic, bypassing the usual skepticism most people would have. However, Negi was able to use the remnants of the World Tree's fading power to travel one week back in time to the final day of the festival to try again to stop her. The final day of the school festival became a battle as a large portion of the festival's attendees, tricked into believing it was the finale event of the festival, were used to raise an army to fight Chao's robot forces, armed with specialized mage weapons designed to bring down Chao's robot army. Chao then makes her appearance before Asuna and Setsuna, equipped with what appears to be a futuristic battlesuit and promptly defeats them. Negi battled Chao on an airship high over the war game, where she revealed her claimed connection to both her teacher and the Thousand Master. When her Cassiopeia watch was destroyed by Negi, she revealed that, on top of a very high proficiency in Chinese martial arts, she is also capable of using magic, and her elemental affinity is fire. However, unlike Negi, her magic is derived from a magical pattern which was inscribed on her entire body (it looks similar to Magica Erebea), which allows her to use powerful magic at the cost of a huge strain on her body, possibly even to the point of her body breaking down. During the battle, Negi warns her not to use such power as it may endanger her life, but Chao ignores the advice, stating that this was for all or nothing, that she had worked hard for over two years staking everything on her plan, and everything else didn't matter. When Negi asked Chao if the two years she had spent with her classmates were irrelevant, Chao had paused momentarily and admitted that it was the one factor she had not counted on. At the climax of the battle, the spell pattern apparently exploded or failed, causing her to be engulfed in Negi's final attack. Chao was defeated, but the battle left them both exhausted and out of power, both magical and mechanical. Just as they were plummeting to their death, Chao embraced Negi in a rare gesture of selflessness, intending to use her body to shield Negi from the fatal impact of the fall. Fortunately, they were saved by their classmates in her specially altered Chao Bao Zi stand, which could fly. But the fight also gave Satomi enough time to complete their spell, just as Chisame managed to break through Chachamaru's attack in cyberspace to restore the school's barrier. However, as per Chao's orders in the event of her defeat, Satomi did not cast the Forced Recognition Magic spell, but instead a spell to remove hatred and sadness from the world for one day. After the end of the plot, she prepared to head back to the future, keeping her word for losing and to protect the past from knowing of the future. However, Negi attempted to stop her, both in defense of the people who want her to stay and to offer her to become a Magister Magi like himself, hoping the two of them will fight in the past to change her future. However, seeing that she did lose and that she must keep her part of her promise, Chao chooses to return to the future. After distracting most of the class with a book revealing her own family tree, which would supposedly also include who Negi eventually marries, she says goodbye to her closest classmates (Satsuki, Satomi, Chachamaru and Ku Fei), as well as a goodbye to her ancestor Negi, promising to meet again, although how she intends to do so remains to be seen. The family tree booklet was eventually burned by Asuna, although Chao did not seem bothered by it, instead laughing happily at the way Negi's "party" was fighting for it. It's unknown if the book was real or not.
Naturally, with the smartest student in Mahora now gone, Class 3-A's test average took a nosedive during the mid-semester exam before the summer break. But they did manage to take second place.
A while after the great adventure in the Magical World, during the next Mahora Festival, some of Class 2-A tried to hunt Negi down so they could find out who his "favorite" was. But Satomi and Asuna managed to intervene when Negi was trapped with Akira and reveal something: a saved copy of Chao's family history (thought to have been burned). She opened the book and showed them the page with Negi's name, seeing it to be the only thing on the entire page, meaning the future was changed due to their adventure and that everyone has a chance for Negi's heart. While this should mean that Lingshen's existence is in question, it is revealed in the next chapter that Satomi's copy was a fake. When Asuna wakes up in 2135 after being sealed away by Negi in a hundred-year sleep (and over-slept by 31 years), Chao and Evangeline, being the last surviving members of Negi's class, were the ones to greet her. True to her promise, Chao returned to visit the rest of the class via a Dimensional Hopper, which allows her to traverse between different timelines, with Asuna in tow. This time, however, she appears to be more open with her fondness for her fellow classmates, even allowing herself to stay in the main timeline long enough to attend the class's graduation and subsequent celebratory outing before finally departing for her own dimension.

Epilouge
Chao has fully come to terms with her fondness for all of Class 3-A, and often makes it a point to stop by the series' main timeline to visit Maroha Academy. With the technology of "Time Manipulation" and "Magical Traveersal Between Parallel Worlds" within her graps, none could stand before her. Chao also has not given up on the fight to bring peace to her troubled timeline, in which she is hailed as she became "The Last Boss of Justice".

Abilities
Expert Hand-to-Hand Combatant: As a member of the "Chinese Martial Arts" club and a sparring partner with fellow classmate Kū Fei, Chao has demonstrated a high amount of skill in martial arts ability and skill. Although initially noted with her stance during the dodgeball game against the Black Lilies, Chao does not particularly use these skills until her two battles against Negi, both at the end of the second day of the Festival and during the final battle at the climax of the "Mahora Vs. Mars" competition. However, it is not shown whether her martial arts skills are below, on a par or surpasses Ku Fei, since she was never included in the class' 'Fighting Group', although it is suggested that her skills are slightly lower than Ku Fei, since she lost to Negi, who in turn, has yet to attain the full experience and understanding of the moves taught by Ku Fei. Furthermore, Ku Fei has stated that, even though she spars with Chao frequently, she never had a 'serious fight' prior to her match against Mana, further hinting that Chao's martial arts skill and proficiency are lower than her.

Machine Kenpo: She combines Chinese Kenpo with her mechanical inventions to increase her fighting abilities.

Expert Magic Spell User: During the final day of the Festival, Chao reveals her own knowledge and abilities in magic, particularly with her final battle with Negi and her spell (assisted by Satomi) to remove typical doubts about magic from everyone in the world. Using special spell patterns tattooed on her body, Chao is able to cast various spells of the fire element, presumed either due to her own preference or because of her Martian heritage. However, it is soon discovered by Negi that forcefully channeling magic through the magic pattern causes her pain, especially while chanting spells. Oddly enough, her activating incantation chant is remarkably similar to Negi's, which lends more credibility to her claims as his descendant. Negi's activation incantation is Ras Tel Mas Scir Magister, while Chao's incantation is Rast Teil My Magic Scir Magister. The glyphs tattooed onto her body only make themselves visible when she "unlocks" them and they rather notably resemble the marks that appear on Negi's body when he uses the newly learned dark art "Magic Erebea".

High-Level Intellect: As a matter of fact, Chao is the only genius girl among the other students. She uses her genius for both Academic and Technological feats.

CHAO in Other Media
Mahō Sensei Negima! (1st Series)
Towards the end of the series, Chao gives Negi a Casseopeia watch (similar to the one used in the manga) to change Asuna's history for the better. Chao's Pactio is a fan-wielding warrior, but her power is not shown.

Negima!?
Although Chao's personality is closer to how she was prior to the Festival arc in the manga, she does gain some more notice in this series than in the first anime. Chao's usage is typically seen either by the means of her genius (working with partner Satomi on various machines and devices) or in her obsession with cooking and, particularly, nikuman.
Surprisingly, Chao is one of the few girls from the Mass Pactio in this series to activate all three Neo-Pactio forms through the series. Her Armor form transforms her into a martial arts warrior with a metal tessen, used by her to fight against a possessed mechanical chupacabra invented by her and Satomi previously in the "other world Mahora". During the "Suka incident", Chao turns into a small "giant panda" that builds the "Chao Castle."And during the final Pactio invocation, she transforms into a waitress who has many different flavors of nikuman, of which she makes Takahata-sensei try several. Because manga events have prevented Chao from ever Pactio with Negi, this may be one of the only times she could demonstrate power as such.Chao also has several special jokes and omake as seen through the series. In one episode ending series, she and Satomi create two "Super Power Hand" devices (one per short) that appears to help in martial arts, but actually assists in the distribution of nikuman (which helps her defeat her hungry opponent Ku Fei).[7] In the final episode, the data screen reveals that, like in the manga, she is a Martian (which, to a casual viewer, may be just for laughs since she has shown no hints of her being from the future, let alone being from Mars).

Pactio Cards
Polymathes Universalis: The power of her artifact is unknown, although it is revealed in Chapter 353 that Chao has made a pactio. Negi sneezed, blowing off their clothes and caused them to activate the pactio cards, including Chao.

A pair of metal tessens.

Panda

Dressed in a Chinese waitress garb. She carries several platters of nikuman in various flavors (as well as a nikuman in her mouth).

Koushu Tessen: She is dressed in a battle outfit similar to Chun Li, she uses powerful martial arts attacks. Her weapons are two metal tessens similar to the one she had on the first series.

NAGASE KAEDE  長瀬 楓
Birthday: 12 November 1988.
She is the gentle and calm yet strong and tall girl. She has an easy-going attitude and is almost always seen with her eyes almost closed. She frequently ends her sentences with "de gozaru", an archaic verb form historically used by samurai. She also has a tendency to address people, particularly in the second series, with the honorific "-dono" ("lord", used by samurai towards superiors; example: Konoka-dono, Setsuna-dono) In her free time, she trains in the mountains, displaying a wide range of ninja-like abilities such as kage bunshin no jutsu. She later uses her abilities to great effect when aiding Negi and his companions during their battles. She actually comes from the Koga ninja clan, but was born a generation too late, since her parents do not carry on the family ninja traditions (Volume 3). As a result, many of her abilities are self-taught. She is "Baka Blue" of the "Baka Rangers" study group, meaning that she is among the lowest scorers on tests in the class. She is also a member of the Mahora Walking Club, along with Fuka and Fumika.

Part in The Story
Kaede was the second girl in the class (Asuna being the first) to learn about Negi's magic. When Negi had fled into the woods during his conflict with Evangeline, Kaede found him while training, and helped cheer him up. She saw Negi flying off the next morning, but kept this a secret even from him until she helped Negi rescue Konoka at Kyoto where she fought and defeated Kotarou. During her fight with Kotarou, Kaede introduced herself as a chūnin (中忍) of the Koga ninja clan (甲賀流). Graf Herrmann did not capture her when he fought Negi and Kotarou under the World Tree, but she was watching the battle with Evangeline and Chachamaru from a distance. She did quite well during the Mahora Fighting Tournament, but she knew that she was no match against Colonel Sanders and although she lost to him, she was happy to know that she did her best, and even forced him to invoke his artifact in order to defeat her in the time allotted for the match. She later suggested that she and Kotarou train together to become stronger. She and a few other girls were trapped in the future with Negi after Chao succeeded in revealing magic to the world. After returning to the past, she chose to fight alongside Negi, where she fought with Mana until well after the end of the battle, when their fight carried all the way into the middle of the post-festival celebration. Kaede calls their fight a draw, but Mana considers the battle Kaede's victory, as she was able to prevent her from assisting Chao in the final stages of her plan. Kaede suggests the two have a real battle some other time, sparking a rivalry between her and Mana. This is most apparent in chapters 175 and 183, where short vignettes depict Mana and Kaede's multiple attempts at getting a better discount for a movie. In 183, the two attempt to resume their battle, but because they are disguised as elementary students, they are threatened to be kicked out of the theater for misbehaving.
Kaede is the second tallest girl in the class, and has the second largest breasts.
Kaede also joins the girls who form a club -- Ala Alba -- to help Negi travel to Wales, and then the Magical World, to find his father. During their visit at the gateport, Ala Alba is ambushed by Fate Averruncus and his minions, and Kaede is forced to fight a shadow mage without her weapons. However, Kaede is eventually subdued by the mage's powerful attacks. Although she is able to escape, an attack by Fate scatters Ala Alba into smaller groups across the magic world. Kaede is later found working her way through the lands by slaying dragons, with assistance from Konoka. She and Konoka later reunite with Asuna and Setsuna. The four travel together to Ostia and later on rejoin the group, sans Anya and Yue. After another encounter with Fate and his group, Kaede makes a pactio with Negi, becoming the ninth girl to become his pactio partner. So far, her artifact is a cape that allows her to "disappear" inside of it; it seems to contain a traditional style Japanese home, complete with garden. Using her new artifact, Kaede carries some of the other girls to the ruins of the old Ostia, following the signals of two Ala Alba badges. After Negi's first encounter with Governor Kurt Godel, Kaede watches Rakan demonstrate Godel's impressive "Zanmaken: Ni no Tachi" technique.
During the ball, when discussions break down between Negi and Godel, Kaede is able to fend off the Megalomesembrian soldiers alongside Setsuna and protect the other girls. During the fight, the students are separated by an unknown attacker, whom Kaede recognizes as the shadow mage she fought at the gateport. She is then tasked with using her artifact to carry the sports girls to the second meeting point.
During ther infultration plan to rescue Asuna and obtain the Great Grand Master Key, Negi goes into a comotose state after his fight with Dynamis. She the uses her artifact to transport Makie, Nodoka and Yuna to the alter as to help with retreving the two objectives without Negi.Although the plan goes well at first, the group becomes ambushed by the newly revived Quintum, the Averruncus of wind and lightning, as he knocks out Nodoka and takes back the Great Grand Master Key. With Nodoka knocked out and Kotarou wounded by Fate, Kaede takes it apon herself to fight Quintum. Although she seems to do well at first, Quintums wind and lightning based magic soon overwhelms her. Despite her defeat, she was able to have one of her clones retrieve and give the Key to the group while the real her fought.
It is later revealed that despite her defeat at Quintum's hands she is alive and conscious, having been spared due to Cosmo Entalecheia's orders against killing non-illusory beings. She comes across a knocked out, but still living, Kotaro and reunites with Yue, Makie, and Asakura, who then proceed to the ritual site, with Kotaro presumably inside Kaede's artifact. As she witnesses Negi's ongoing battle with Fate in the distance, she remarks at how extraordinary it is that her teacher can not only fight evenly, but push back the Averruncus of earth and is amazed at his strength.

Epilogue
She, like the rest of the class, assists Negi in saving Nagi and defeating the Mage of the Beginning. For one whose life is a vegabond voyage of training, as a result, she became able to traverse space in flesh and blood. Whenever a classmate is in danger, she is always the first to appear out of nowhere. A dependable Ninja of the Spage Age.

Abilities
Pactio: Speculatrix Clandestina: Fitting well with her ninja skills, Kaede's artifact, Tengu no Kakuremino, is a cloak that can be used for camouflage/invisibility purposes. While underneath the cloak, Kaede is in another plane of reality which includes a house, complete with a kitchen. Aside from stealth and travel, Kaede's artifact has other clever uses, such as absorbing enemy attacks or catching someone who is falling in midair. Her artifact appears to be based on a folk tale of the same name. Kaede is the ninth student to make a provisional contract with Negi.

Expert Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Being a Ninjutsu master, Kaede is skillful at various ninja techniques, such as kage bunshin no jutsu , which allows her to split into numerous shadow clones, and shukuchi mukyou, a speed-step maneuver. In one instance, Kaede is able to combine ninjutsu and body manipulation techniques in order to make herself appear younger. Kaede refers to her ninjutsu techniques Kaede ninpou, or "Kaede ninja arts". She also appears to be teaching Kotarou these techniques, as Kotarou demonstrated the kage bunshin in the fight against Fate's harem. The Narutaki twins also mention using the "stealth escape technique" passed down to them from Kaede, although little is known if she has truly taught the twins any abilities. Kaede sometimes fights blindfolded as part of her training.

Weapon Mastery: Kaede also appears to be adept at using several ninja-style weapons, such as kunai and a giant shuriken. One of the attacks she uses with such weapons is the Bakusa Bakuenjin (translated as "Binding Chain Eruption").

Techniques
Shukuchi:'Kaede's own version of Instant Moment

Boundless Ground Contraction: A extreme long range version of Shukuchi.

Kage Bushin: This technique allows Kaede to split into multiple shadow clones.

Binding Chain Eruption: Kaede ensares her enemies in a chained shuriken before causing a gaint explosion. This tecnique was powerful to take down a dragon.

Shadow Sewing

Demon Annihilation Binding Array- First used in chapter 305

Appearances in Other Media
Negima!: Her Pactio artifact is a giant shuriken, but what it does isn't seen. Her hair is also somewhat darker.

Negima!?:  Kaede often dresses in old-fashioned brown robes, taking on a appearance similar to how a kitsune looks. She also acts as a surrogate mother figure for the Narutaki twins in the same series. Although she primarily is seen alongside the Narutaki twins, she does make a Pactio with Negi early in the series. During her only true battle, she reveals a Cosplay card that turns her into a tengu with transformation abilities. However, she also turns into a kappa during the "Suka incident".

Pactio Cards
Speculatrix Clandestina: Fitting well with her ninja skills, Kaede's artifact, Tengu no Kakuremino, is a cloak that can be used for camouflage/invisibility purposes.

A HUGE shuriken. Its power was not shown.

Kappa

She is dressed in the mountainous outfit of the tengu, complete with a special tengu mask and leaf for blowing wind. In this form, she can transform into anything she can think of (for example, she imagines herself as a frog to save the Narutaki twins when they get in danger).

Cross Combination Kunai: Ninja outfit with a huge scroll on her back and another smaller scroll on her mouth. She also has two broad swords strapped to her back while crossing each other, this likely being the origin of the card's name.

NABA CHIZURU  那波 千鶴
Student Number 21 .
Hair: Brownish
Eyes: Brown
Bloodtype: A
Three Sizes: Not known at this time
Likes: The Slow life, Helping others, Just being with everyone
Dislikes: Loneliness, long distance relationships
Club Activites: Astronomy Club.

Character Design
There are plenty of things to know about Chizuru. One is that she boasts the largest bust size in the class. Add the fact that she does volunteer work at the Mahora Day Care center and you've got yourself a very "motherly" person. At an early glance, Chizuru comes off to someone as a kind but quite naive big girl, and that is not entirely wrong although her behavior sometimes suggest otherwise. Chizuru doesn't play much of a part in Negima until much later in the series. She gets her chance to shine when she takes in a stray puppy who turns out to be a wolf-boy named Kotarou. When she sees him, she decides she wants to keep him and care for him. She has two roommates: Natsumi Murakami and Ayaka Yukihiro. The only reason Ayaka lets Kotarou stay is because Chizuru told her that he's Natsumi's little brother. Chizuru can be a very strange girl, being somewhat perverted at times, while in other cases a little weird. One thing to say is that she's surprisingly fearless. Like a mother bear defending her cubs, she will not back down from an opponent no matter how strong he or she is. Her mothering skills are not to be trifled with either; her giant breasts have the power to bring people to their knees, especially if you get caught between them. Those who know Chizuru can say with confidence that she can be very scary sometimes, although how scary she can actually be we have yet to find out. She has shown a great sense of family and warmth because Negi slept with her in the Mahou Sensei Negima!~Shiroki Tsubasa Ala Alba~ OAD 2. This applies to Kotarou as well because as he was rating girls to Natsumi Chizuru was rated 400 points (out of pure terror of her). She is really loved by most people. It is odd that she is a high school student considering she has such a skill in mothering. In chapter 336, it was revealed that Chizuru's family is about as rich as Ayaka's, and she's joined Ayaka in something she isn't ready to disclose yet, presumably assisting Negi.

Epilogue
She, like the rest of the class, assists Negi in saving Nagi and defeating the Mage of the Beginning. As the proxy representative of Naba Heavy Industries, she acts together with Yukihiro Ayaka, becoming a driving force in the implementation of Project "Blue Mars". Once the plan was on the track, she proceeded on the path of being
a nursery school teacher, a dream she had had for some time. Taken at first sight by the daughters of the Narutaki sisters during their visit to their parents, she now dotes on them.

Pactio Cards

Servator Stellarum: It is revealed in Chapter 340 that Chizuru has made a pactio with Negi. Judging by the picture on the card, the artifact appears to be a large spring onion named Negi Scepter. Its power is to recover one from all ailments but in return the recipient has to listen to her orders. Comedically, the way to use it is to pierce it to a person's anus, much to everyone's horror. It's unknown whether this is it real requirement or just her preference.

Her artifact in the anime is a group of magic spheres from a swirling constellation around her that explode

 Cow

Dressed like a sexy version of a Chinese goddess, possibly Chang'e. She wears a white, short-skirted robe which shows her cleavage, has her hair tied behind her head, and drapes a long white scarf typical of several female figures in Chinese mythology.

Karakuri Bon: A waitress with a platter and a leek. When Natsumi asks what the platter is for, Chizuru has no idea.

NARUTAKI FUKA  鳴滝 風香
The older sister of the Narutaki twins. She's the one who's mischievous and likes to play silly willy pranks on other people. Fuka and her sister both love to play ninjas like Kaede, though their ninjutsu is not at the level of Kaede's. It in fact isn't even real ninjutsu at all. Fuka and her twin sister have the smallest breasts in 3-A which is about as flat as Negi's. Fuka can be discerned by the ponytails in her hair and her tomboyish nature. All the same, when Fuka decides to pull off a prank, Fumika is always there by her side. The two are inseparable.

Abilities
Ninja Skills- She and her twin claims they are undergoing ninjutsu training from Kaede. It is supported as they are seen wearing ninja outfits, and ther paction card shows them in ninja uniform with a scroll and a dagger.
Other Skills- As a member of the Strolling Club, she is well-versed in going to the school's common locations and easily toured Negi across the school premises. Other than that, Fuka has a mischievous nature doing pranks on others.

Personality
Fuka is in all a prankster. She loves having a great time playing around and pulling pranks. Unlike her sister, she is full of energy and never worries about the consequences. Just like Nagi! Fuka is in the walking society with her sister Fumika and Kaede. She and her sister look up to Kaede and listen to her intently. They admire her so much that they even use fake ninpou to look like they have inherited the skills from Kaede herself. The fact that she wants to grow as fast as she can those not in fact please Kaede but it shows that she can be serious in times. She cares deeply for her sister and is loyal to the walking society! She likes teasing her classmates on their weaknesses such as when Makie didn't come to school due to being bitten by Eva, Fuka said that Makie was just scared of coming for the physical exam and exclaimed that Makie's chest was really flat, even hers is the flattest and can't wear a bra. She also looks like a child and is seemingly shorter then Negi even with the four year advantage.

Epilogue
She, like the rest of the class, assists Negi in saving Nagi and defeating the Mage of the Beginning. The two mysterious animals they picked up during christmas were two magic princes on secret visits. At the sidlines of the choatic battle for Negi, the four deepened their ties and maintened contact afterwards. They married after graduating from High School and were both blessed with lovly daugthers. As the two biggest cinderella stories of 3-A, they now live near Ariadne, in the scenic old capital on the borderlands of the Hellas Empire.

Pactio Card
Geminae Simulatrices: Mistake Pactio with Fumika (they both kissed a copy of Negi at the same time). Mistake Pactio with Fuka (they both kissed a copy of Negi at the same time). It is revealed in Chapter 353 that Fuka has made a pactio, when negi sneezed, and all the girls lose their clothes, they activated the pactio cards. including Fuka.

Negima!: Dressed in a ninja outfit and are able to do the shadow doppelganger technique alongside Fumika. The number of copies they can make is unknown.

Mini-Kunai Shuriken: A ninja with a kunai. This a split version of the twins' unofficial manga Pactio.

NARUTAKI FUMIKA  鳴滝 史伽
Fuka's younger sister. Fumika is the younger of the Narutaki twins. She is almost the complete opposite of Fuka. Her hobby is cleaning, and while she goes along with Fuka's pranks, she constantly tries to tell her sister that they are bad ideas. The twins claim to be undergoing ninjutsu training from their roommate Kaede, and are seen wearing ninja outfits during the "Kiss Negi" contest in Kyoto and afterwards when they wanted to play with Negi. She and her sister are the only girls in the class that have not yet gone through puberty. She and her sister spied on Negi's group as they planned their trip to England, and spread the news to the other girls in the class. They tried to win the right to accompany Negi to England by stealing Kaede's badge, but failed spectacularly (Kaede was able to knock them out when they ambushed her). They instead traveled with Ayaka and are currently enjoying the hospitality of Nekane's home and touring Negi's hometown.

Ninja Skills- She and her twin claims they are undergoing ninjutsu training from Kaede. It is supported being as they are seen wearing ninja outfits, and their pactio card shows them having ninja like uniforms and equipments.

Other Skills- Being a member of the Strolling Club, she and her twins is well-versed with the common locations of the school, and easily toured Negi across the school.

Other Media
Negima!: Fumika's hair is pink and her hair accessories are yellow. But her most radical change is becoming a twin of Fuka in personality as well as biologically, becoming just as mischievous and troublemaking (although she does retain some of her cautious personality). Like her sister, her Pactio ability is the creation of a limitless amount of clones.

Negima!?: Fumika finally retains her more cautious personality in this series, but her eyes are now blue in color to differentiate from Fuka. Both she and her twin gain Pactio early in this series, with her only regular release being a Cosplay card turning her into a Western-style detective. At a later time, she discovers that this form gives her a magic magnifying glass that can see the future. During the "Suka incident", she becomes a bumblebee. Fumika also has a habit of ending all her sentences with desu.

Pactio Cards
Geminae Simulatrices: Mistake Pactio with Fuka (they both kissed a copy of Negi at the same time). It is revealed in Chapter 353 that Fumika has made a pactio, when negi sneezed, and all the girls lose their clothes, they activated the pactio cards. including Fumika.

Bumblebee

A Western detective (akin to Sherlock Holmes) with a magnifying glass and a bubble pipe. Her main artifact is the magnifying glass that allows her to look into an object's future.

Bansen Shukai: A ninja with a scroll in her mouth. Also to differentiate from her sister, some red and blue features in her outfit are the opposite of those of Fuka's. This a split version of the twins' unofficial manga Pactio.

HAKASE SATOMI  葉加瀬 聡美
Student Number 24. Birthday: 14 July 1988.
She is the robotics expert. She is best friends with Chao, and created Chachamaru with her help. Her nickname is "Professor" .

Personality
Usually seen with Chao or Chachamaru, she often assists in the technical upkeep of the class.
She and Chao enjoy testing her inventions on Ku Fei. She is also a member of the Robotics and Jet Propulsion Society of Mahora University and always asks the organization to provide her room for her experiments. Her great intelligence, obsession in her work, and somewhat lacking common sense, lead her classmates to refer to both her and Chao as mad scientists. In her biography, she dislikes things that cannot be explained or scientifically proven, despite the fact that she is well aware of magic and uses it frequently in her work, especially in the creation of her greatest achievement, Chachamaru.

Part In The Story
During the Mahora Festival, she aided Chao with her plan to reveal the existence of mages to the world. She is not seen during the time Negi and some of her classmates are trapped in the future. She reappeared on the third day of the festival as she and Chao prepare the spell to reveal magic to the world, though she appeared to be having second thoughts. At that point, Negi arrived to stop them. However, by the time Chao was defeated by Negi, she was able to complete the incantation for the Forced Recognition Magic, though the spell was changed with Chao's loss into an enchantment to remove hatred from the world for a day.
After Chao's departure, she become responsible for Chachamaru's maintenance. She becomes especially amazed when Chachamaru began displaying human emotions, following her interactions with Negi. At present, Satomi is upgrading Chachamaru's body with more humanlike skin and softer appearance.
During the fight between Negi and fate in the old ruins of Ostia, she is determined to support the group along with her classmates and started having observations with equipments to the place that appeareed above mahora Academy.

Epilogue
She, like the rest of the class, assists Negi in saving Nagi and defeating the Mage of the Beginning. The terraforming and orbital elevator construction would have been difficult to implement in the early stages with purely scientific techniques, and it was with her fundamental theory of science-magic intergration that it was realized. Believe it or not, she apparently married a certain governor.

Abilities
Genius Level Intellect- Satomi is the robotics expert and thus, one of the smarter members of the class. She is also a prominent member of the school's Robotics and Jet Propulsion Society. Her skills earned to even create a android, namely Chachamaru, with her bestfriend, Chao. Her great intelligence, obsession in work, and somewhat lacking common sense, leads her classmates referring to her as a mad scientists along with Chao. She has also upgraded Chachamaru's body with more humanlike skin and a softer appearnance.

Magic Power- Being friends and working as an accomplice with Chao and inventing Chachamaru with use of magic, it can be assumed that Satomi not only is aware of magic but also at the least knows how to practice it.Keen Observer and Logical Thinking- Among the class, she is one of the students who is aware of the existence of magic and uses it frequently especially on her greatest achievement, Chachamaru.
However, in her biography she dislikes things that cannot be explained or scientifically proven. She also determined Chachamru displaying human emotions.

Pactio Cards
Macinatrix Insana: During the battle between Negi and Chao, Satomi made a provisional contract with Chao in order to help her to reveal magic to the world. However, by the time Chao was defeated by Negi, she was able to complete the incantation for the Forced Recognition Magic, though the spell was changed with Chao's loss into an enchantment to remove hatred from the world for a day. Whether or not the contract is still active is in question, but it is most likely invalid since Chao returned to the future. Logically, Satomi's partner hasn't even been born yet. While Hakase unofficially has a Pactio card by Akamatsu, she has not yet made one with Negi in continuity.

Negima!: Mechanical arms that deliver a punch called a 'Plasma Punch.'

Axolotl

Mad scientist outfit, her artifacts are a satchel and a Florence flask with a strange liquid. The satchel allows her to carry her experiments inside, no matter how large they are compared to the small size of the bag.

Arm-Str (sic): Similar to her original Pactio card, but with the mechanical arms on a backpack instead of out in front; its controls are at a console worn at front.
