Negima!? Mahora Girls' Jr. High Class 2/3-A 9-16

KASUGA MISORA  春日 美空
Student Number 9. Birthday: 4 April 1988.

Background and Personality
A hyperactive tomboy in the track and field club, who had rivaled Asuna in the class sprint runs. She always wears a crucifix and is sometimes seen wearing a nun's habit, as she spends her time performing chores at the local church. Later in the manga, she is revealed as a mage-in-training (a member of the Mahora "mahō shōjo team") as well as a Ministra Magi. Her pactio artifact is a pair of sneakers that allow her to run and jump with superhuman ability. She has also been seen wielding a cross as a weapon, but it has yet to be seen how it is used. She seems to be self-conscious about her abilities, and tries to hide it from friends and acquaintances, even when it is obvious. She is often seen alongside Takane, Mei, and Negumi, who are fellow mages-in-training.
Misora is shown to have a penchant for mischief, despite the better judgement of her fellow nun Cocone, whom she constantly watches over. She is lazy and would prefer lounging around to going on special missions, which causes her to get scolded frequently by Sister Shakti, who gives her a "tough love" approach.

Part in the Story
In the fetstival arc, Misora is sent on a special mission to uncover Chao's attempt to reveal magic to the world. She and Cocone are able to uncover Chao's secret robot army at the base of the World Tree before escaping with her artifact. During the festival, her identity as a mage is accidentally revealed to Asuna Kagurazaka, although she unsuccessfully attempts to hide her true identity. She is reluctant about becoming involved, seeing her own possible magical background. However, she does use her pactio item to help Asuna and Setsuna escape from a losing battle against Chao and helps assist Negi to get past Chao's robot forces. She is among the Mahora Staff who participates in the final battle of the festival, where Cocone sacrifices herself to protect Misora from Chao's time displacement bullets. The two are later reunited after the festival.
After the end of the festival, Misora begins to have suspicions about Negi and several of the classmates seen consistently around him. After Asuna, Yue, and Nodoka mistake her for a priest while she and Cocone were cleaning at the church, she inadvertently listens to their concerns and uses a voice manipulation as if she was the priest. Later, after Nodoka's turn, Nodoka tells everyone in the class about it and most of the 3-A students (as well as Negi and Takane) confess their concerns. During this incident, she overhears, among other things, Negi concerns after Chao's departure, Asuna's attempt to hold back her feelings towards Negi, and the love triangle between Negi, Nodoka, and Yue. But after hearing Negi's confession, she and Cocone were given the divine punishment by Sister Shakti. It is revealed that before the festival, Misora was not aware of Evangeline's true identity. Misora is very afraid of Evangeline, as her parents used to tell bedtimes stories about the dark mage in order to scare her into behaving.
Misora then traveled to the magic world with the other mages-in-training for vacation, hoping to visit Cocone's hometown, but she is shocked when she found out that most of the portals connecting the two worlds were destroyed. Misora and her friends eventually meet up with Asuna during Negi's fight against Jack Rakan, and she is later seen as a guest at the Governor's Ball. Because she is human, she was one of the few people able to use magic during Cosmo Entelecheia's attack on the ball. She, Mei, and Takane were found by Shiori/Luna (disguised as Asuna) and were able to escape with the help of Mana Tatsumiya. She is currently accompanying Negi and her fellow classmates to the Ostia ruins. She continues to deny that she is Misora, despite the fact everyone is already aware of her identity as a mage.

Epilogue
She, like the rest of the class, assists Negi in saving Nagi and defeating the Mage of the Beginning. Accompanying the shortage of personnel due to Negi´s Plan, she exceedingly relucatantly protected Mahora Accdemy together with Ayase Yue. Her relationship with fellow orphan Cocone is the same as before. The assignment that she had once given the boy was completed on the day of their High School Gradtuation. Her response: "... seriously-?! Wow, thats... hm... well.. its funny, so i´ll fogive that-"

Abilities
Pactio: Joculatrix Monachans: Misora is Cocone Fatima Rosa's provisional partner. Because she is a member of the Track and Field Club, her artifact is a pair of running sneakers which allow her to run at an incredibly fast speed, as well as perform other superhuman tasks such as running up walls and across water. Because her artifact itself has no combat abilities, Misora claims it is only good for running away.

Magical Abilities: Because she is a mage, Misora is shown to have magical abilities, such as simple illusion spells. However, she strongly denies any involvement among Mahora Academy's mage-teachers. The extent of her magic abilities is unknown, but it is unlikely that Misora has a skill for magic, due to her tendency to slack off.

Appearances in other media
Negima!: Her weapon is an Iron Cross allowing her to commune with God and use His powers.

Negima!?: Misora is a yoga enthusiast in this series, where she is paired with the other sports girls as a replacement for Makie. Like the first series (and unlike the manga), she forms a pactio with Negi, yet her only released card turned her into a pig during the "Suka incident".

Pactio Cards
Joculatrix Monachans: A pair of white sneakers with red soles and a golden wing on the side that gives her superhuman speed and agility. Their combat potential is limited as Misora states that she can only run away with them. However, the shoes are able to allow Misora impossible feats such as running along walls and on top of water. Her Pactio is with Cocone, not Negi, yet her card shows the Roman Numeral 9, her seat number, which is what Negi's Pactios show.

She is dressed like a nun. Her weapon is an Iron Cross allowing her to commune with God and use His powers, such as bringing lightning down on enemies.

 Pig

She looks very similar to her old pactio form in the first anime, the artifact that she carries is a mysterious giant ancient watch with the letters written in roman numerals. It is tied around from her waist to her back. She also holds a rosary which she uses to pray for Motsu when he decided to rocket himself out of earth in the last episode. Other than that the abilities were never shown.

Swift Divine Shoes: Dressed as a marathoner with a sash and a relay baton. She wears a pair of Joculatrix Monachans sneakers that allow her to move fast.

KARAKURI CHACHAMARU  絡繰 茶茶丸
A fictional character from the manga series Negima!: Magister Negi Magi, created by Ken Akamatsu. The 10th student in Japanese alphabetical order of class 2/3-A, she is actually a robot invented by class mechanical geniuses Satomi Hakase (and possibly Chao Lingshen, though Hakase says she did the whole thing), as the partner for immortal vampiress Evangeline A.K. McDowell. Because of her connections, she is consistently found on the opposite ends of conflicts with teacher Negi Springfield, whether it is fighting alongside Eva or being programmed to assist Chao during her attempt to reveal magic to the world. But in actuality, Chachamaru is a machine who is trying to discover herself and her humanity, particularly with her own crush on her teacher.

Character Design
Since his early days as a well-known mangaka, Ken Akamatsu has been experimenting with the concepts and ideas of what makes a human through the usage of artificial and mechanical life in his manga. In the series A.I. Love You, the lead character developed an artificial intelligence program by which several of the girls in his harem eventually deviate from. From the base program, the girls (including the lead, Saati) grow and evolve into their own person, made even more intricate with some of them breaking through into the real world and interacting like a normal person even though they are still basically computer programs. Akamatsu's next series, Love Hina, did not go any further into A.I. and instead brought in a concept of robotics, particularly through the mad child Kaolla Su and her multiple robot versions of Tama-chan (the pet turtle at the hot springs resort).
With Chachamaru, Akamatsu is able to return to the various ideas and concepts used in both series, continuing his A.I. studies started in A.I. Love You, but bringing in the robotics used in Love Hina. Identified easily as one of the first "weirdoes" in class 2/3-A due to her trademark mechanical ears on top of her head, she is merely seen at first as a "mechanical doll" merely made for the control of whoever needs her. This is her primary function both under her master Evangeline and when used for the schemes of her co-creator Chao: a combination of both a weapon to fight alongside them as well as a servant to assist them as an extra hand (such as at the Chāo Bāozi) or for preparation of items (her tea-making abilities).
However, the mechanical character is seen differently in respect to her teacher Negi, who witnesses her human side and the possible evolution of feelings and emotions not programmed into her existence. Compared to any interactions with other, controlling characters around, the relationship between Negi and Chachamaru show themselves as less "master and student" and more "person to person" or "boy to girl". Chachamaru also exhibits these relationship abilities with her other co-creator Satomi, who less wants to interact with her and rather study these interactions and use them for the advancement of A.I. study.

Background & Personality
Chachamaru is a robot with a mechanical and magical power source created by Satomi and Chao for Evangeline. She is essentially a technological golem. Karakuri is the Japanese word for "machine" or "mechanism". Despite her robotic parts showing very clearly, not many in her class actually seem to notice. She has described herself as an android, and at least once clarified this as "gynoid" (a female android).
As well as being Evangeline's partner (though not a Ministra Magi), she performs maid duties at the cottage they share on the Mahora campus. While Chachamaru displays few outward emotions, she spends most of her free time helping people and rescuing stray animals, including regularly taking care of stray cats, and is very popular with young children, who seem to know that she is a robot. She is also in the go and Tea Ceremony clubs, but only because Evangeline is in those clubs as well (the cha in her name uses the Kanji for "tea"). Perhaps because of the magic used in her creation, Chachamaru begins to show human-like functions and emotions she was not programmed for, such as her internal gears increasing in speed during moments where a human's heart would beat faster, and even leaking lens-cleaning fluid from her eyes when she's upset. The most likely trigger for this seems to be that she started developing feelings for Negi after he stopped an attack on her when she was unable to defend herself, turning his own Sagitta Magica spell back on himself rather than hurt his own student. Chachamaru eventually rocket-punched Satomi, her own creator, out of embarrassment when she was about to tell everyone about her crush on Negi, and nearly resulted in a complete breakdown of her cognitive abilities.
In order to function normally, she requires a mage (or at least someone who can control magic) to "wind her up" with a spring key once a day while channeling a little magical power into her. This seems to give her the sensation of making a Probationary Contract with the person winding her. However, the act and her reactions sometimes generate sexual connotations in the minds of readers and other characters alike.

Chachamaru Models & Upgrades
Chachamaru's body is powered by an internal spring combined with magic. Early concept sketches also showed the possibility of a nuclear power source, but it is unconfirmed if that was used or dropped for her final design.
Once a day, Chachamaru has to be recharged with a combination of winding her spring plus the infusion of magic into her systems. For Chachamaru, this feels much like forming a pactio, but the force of the winding and the amount of magic given to her can dramatically alter the intensity of the sensation (making it feel almost orgasmic). The process involves using a large key which is inserted into a slot in the back of her head. Normally, it is Evangeline who turns the key and infuses Chachamaru with magic, but during the trip to the Magic World, Negi declares that he will recharge her every morning.
As the only mechanical member of class 3-A, Chachamaru can not literally grow or change physically on her own due to being limited to a robot body. However, that doesn't mean that she is not eligible for the occasional upgrade or model change to her system. Due to the consistent, obsessive research of her co-creator Satomi, Chachamaru's physical form and abilities are occasionally changed or altered in order to make her more human.
Teenage Body v. 1: The primary physical body used by Chachamaru, giving her the appearance of a tall middle-school student. This form is noted for the appearance of more mechanical joints and pronounced "machine ears" (of which Chisame immediately identified her as a robot instead of an ordinary student in the class). The ears were upgraded to a more streamlined look a while before the Mahora Festival.
Younger Body v. 1: As her teen body was being upgraded for the trip to Wales (as Eva's representative in the White Wing), Chachamaru is forced to reside within the body of a younger-appearing form. The new form features shorter hair (that resembles exactly as Ku Fei's hairstyle without the buns), and has realistic 'human skin' coating which hides her joints, and the machine ears are usually held in a more horizontal position, though they can still straighten to point upwards when needed. Satomi originally intended for this body to be the permanent upgrade from the Teenage Body, but Chachamaru's preference for her original look began Satomi's overhaul of the Teenage Body into v. 2. Eva is currently using it as a replacement for Chachamaru.
Younger Body v. 2: A second body offered by Satomi during Chachamaru's waiting period, this one is more designed similar to a ten-year old girl. It is the even younger version of Younger Body v. 1, only with longer hair just past the shoulders. It also has the same ear position. Chachamaru has recently been forced to take on the appearance of this body to disguise herself in the Magical World. This was accomplished thanks to Eva's powerful illusion magic though and not her actual younger body. How this affects her abilities is yet to seen, though her badge detecting sensor is unaffected.
Teenage Body v. 2: As Chachamaru returns to a teenage form, she has been given several upgrades to her physique. The special skin in the younger body has been added and her joints are no longer noticeable compared to before, making her virtually identical to the other girls when naked, excepting joints on her shoulders. The ears are usually held vertical like the original Teenage Body. For combat and defense, her arms can be reconfigured into weapons, such as a blade or gun. Furthermore, Satomi increased the size of Chachamaru's bust, allowing her to appear more adult or seductive. Satomi also added a longer lasting "magic battery" of sorts allowing Chachamaru to be wound up once every 24 hours instead of every 12 hours. However the "battery" is drained faster while when in combat situations due to her transforming arms and increased magical output.

Synopsis
Although initially appearing silent and merely on the sidelines when Negi arrived at Mahora, she began to become a nuisance to Negi at the very moment Evangeline made her move against the son of the Thousand Master. While fighting against a vampire was one matter, fighting against both a vampire and her robotic servant made even more trouble for Negi as he began to doubt his ability and start his own search for a Ministra Magi to assist him. This would lead towards Negi making his first Pactio contract with Asuna Kagurazaka, who would take over fighting against Chachamaru while he took on the vampire. Yet even during this initial encounter, the boy teacher discovered the robot student was not as evil as she appeared, showing her helpful and kind nature even while being both Eva's servant and a threat to himself. After the battle, Chachamaru chose to stay by her master's side instead of going to Kyoto, only appearing as backup for Evangeline during her battle against Fate Averruncus.
Despite her assisting Negi in Kyoto, Graf Herrmann declined to go after her, lest he risk drawing the attention of Evangeline, whom he wanted to avoid. Even so, she, Evangeline, and Kaede, who avoided being kidnapped, did discover his presence, but held back, preferring to see if Negi and Kotarou could handle the situation themselves. She attended the Mahora Fighting Tournament, where she performed match commentary with Kaoru Gōtokuji (providing useful exposition for readers), and performed a Tea Ceremony for Negi afterwards. She supported Chao's plot to reveal magic to the world, perhaps because of her affiliation with Satomi. She often asks for forgiveness from Negi whenever there is a confrontation between their sides. Before Chao leaves for her own time, she tells Chachamaru that she is now 'a free unit', able to live her life as she wishes. This apparently means that she cannot be ordered to do something she doesn't want to by either Satomi or even Evangeline (or at least not without a good reason).
During the Mahora Festival, Chachamaru slowly became friends with reclusive classmate Chisame Hasegawa, whether she wanted to or not. Considering Chisame's own aggravation initially in that one of her "child teacher's" students is a robot, Chisame is approached by Chachamaru as she drags her into the thought of the existence of magic as well as clues her in on the plot of Chao Lingshen regarding the tournament and ultimately the entire Mahora Festival. Yet amidst these comments, Chachamaru also gets into a heart-to-heart with the hacker classmate regarding the feelings the two of them have towards magic and Negi as well as the possibility of becoming a partner with their teacher. While Chisame scoffs at these comments at first, she eventually is forced to fight against the robot with a Pactio hacking ability during the final day of the Festival, along with Ayaka and Makie playing as magical girl characters. Chachamaru's role at this point was as the main maintenance of the computer networks, taking control of the Mahora network and preventing any interference for Chao's plans. Once the master was defeated, she unconditionally surrendered to Chisame, much to her classmate's dismay after fighting so hard to get the magical barrier back online.
Besides Evangeline and Chisame, Chachamaru's closest connection is with her co-creator Satomi Hakase. The scientist is always watching over her creation, making sure she is running at a sufficient level and monitoring her physical and mental actions. However, the development of the artificial intelligence of the machine, through her interactions and relations to Negi and the other classmates, makes the junior scientist obsess in discovering the latest developments and evolution of her creation. Though Satomi is constantly upgrading and improving on Chachamaru's systems, some of her modifications leave much to be desired (such as having an umbrella-like heat plate so she can wear her hair up without overheating).
Chachamaru is the latest in a series of androids. A number of other androids, previous models in the series, work for Evangeline as maids, and refer to Chachamaru as their little sister. When Chao Ling Shen was excuting her plan to change the future, Chachamaru was one the villians help Chao complete her mission. That is thanks to Evangeline, Chao burrow Chachamaru. During the final battle of the Mahorafest war, a number of other female-styled androids, as well as an advance combat body designed for her fitted with a basic combat AI were sent out to slow down Negi and his group as they tried to reach Chao. Some time after the festival, Chachamaru has been transplanted into a smaller body, while her original is being overhauled. The new form features shorter hair (that resembles exactly as Ku-Fei's hairstyle without the buns), and has realistic 'human skin' coating which hides her joints, (Satomi also has a 10-year-old version available, in case Chachamaru wants to interact more closely with Negi). Presently, she's using a version of her normal body, but with the features of the upgrade versions. Chachamaru also seems to develop an attachment to Chisame as she often "arrests" her to join Negi's new "club" meeting. As the new White Wing group prepares to leave for Wales, she is returned to her original body after the overhaul is completed. At present, she will be accompanying the group in her master's stead, (since Eva cannot leave the school due to the curse), and will collect any information concerning Negi's father. After entering the Magic World, she witnesses the attack on Negi by Fate but could not do anything to save him. After the entire party is scattered to all corners of the Magic World by Fate and his team, she and Negi end up together in the midst of a jungle area of the world, where she takes care of her teacher, shows him a map of the whole Magic World with their current location and assists him in trying to find the others. She also asks Negi to 'wind her up' with a spring key to reload her energy. Recently, she has had to "downgrade" herself into a "younger" body in order to disguise herself.
While Paru tried to force her and Sayo to make pactios with Negi, she initially declined because she is a robot and was afraid that she didn't have a soul which is required for a pactio. She has since given in though, was able to complete the pactio with Negi after all. At the moment she is in combat with the Fire Fate “Quartum”. This has led to her major destruction. It is shown that she has been broken into two parts and has been jabbed by fire javeline magic. Later on, Haruna and Chachamaru return to the real world. Satomi sees Chachamaru and tells her that a new body and soul may be hard to create with just of her memories. Chachamaru was soon shown to be fixed and took part in the gathering of the entire class 3-A in order to awaken Asuna.
After school begins, Fate Averruncus entered 3-A's class, much to everyone's surprise and she prepared her artifact along with the other students thinking that he would attack them.

After class, she was seen to be pleasuring herself in her house until Evangeline returns. Evangeline congratulated her and leave her alone but Chachamaru stopped her from leaving and asked her for not mentioning this matter to Negi. Evangeline comments that there no one in class other than Chachamaru for helping Negi in his plan which a normal human would drop dead due to its killer schedule. Evangeline also mentioned that Fate wouldn't do anything, Asuna is an idiot and Negi could probably used a 'secretary' even though he worked inhumanly hard. Chachamaru was soon shown feeding the cats, while she was worried about Negi and she wished that she will help him. She soon daydreams about Negi and her as his 'secretary' working together not knowning that the real Negi, Chamo and Asakura are standing behind her. After coming to her senses, she immediately became embarassed after seeing Negi's face and being teased by Asakura. Chachamaru thinks about that this is her only chance to help Negi and worked up her courage asking Negi. He was about to refuse only to be stopped by Chamo and Asakura. After recalling Chao's words, she said that she wants to do this because this is the path her heart desires. Negi told her that his plan will take a long time and will be difficult but he gave her a chance to which she immediately accepts.

Epilogue
She, like the rest of the class, assists Negi in saving Nagi and defeating the Mage of the Beginning. She worked for many years as Negi's secretary. It could almost appear that she has grown from being Evangeline's robotic servant into her own individual person. She became the portotype to the humanoid robots needed in the harsh environments of solar system development. She certainly did get wound up every day.

Abilities
Machine Functions: Chachamaru is equipped with several devices, which include a Bind-Canceller (to undo Binding Circles), laser emitters in her eyes, magic-powered thrusters on her legs and back, retractable rocket fists, and whatever else her creator Satomi can come up with. Her thrusters allow Chachamaru to fly, however she can only do so for 15 minutes , which indicates that she has a limited fuel supply.

Expert Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Her overall combat abilities are considerable though her current level is unknown. (Though it is likely she was programmed to perform numerous Martial Arts techniques seeing how Chao Lingshen had a hand in her creation.) Previously she was able to use her abilities both as Evangeline's partner as well as a test/training partner for Negi as he trained with the vampiress. Due to her latest upgrade after the Mahora Fighting Tournament, her creator stated that Chachamaru was now able to perform some of the more advanced techniques, such as Instant Movement.

Pactio: Pupa Somnians: She formed pactio with Nagi in Chapter 263. Her weapon, which is revealed in chapter 281, is the Type-2130 Chao Bao Zi Satellite Support System: Al-Iskandariya ("Flying Cat") and consists of a laser designator and satellite weapon combo, with both weapons shaped to resemble cats (and the outfit that she wears when she uses the items include a pair of cat ears and a tail, reflecting Chachamaru's tendency to care for stray cats). Due to the area covered by the satellite's beam, it can only be used from a safe distance. This is actually an invention by Chao Lingshen, making it unclear how it became a Pactio Artifact.

Computer Interface: Due to her own AI and computer programming, Chachamaru has the ability to interact and connect with other computer networks with ease, allowing her to hack and control even the Mahora systems during the final day of the festival.

Weapon-Morphing Arms: Her latest upgrade now allows her to transform her arms into large swords or guns, though this will tear the sleeves of her clothes apart and has a tendency of draining her magical "battery" rather quickly.

Appearances in other media
Mahō Sensei Negima! (1st Anime)
Chachamaru seems a bit more robotic and for the first few episodes only says "Yes, Master" when speaking to Evangeline. While with many of the functions and abilities held in the manga, she was also equipped with an aquatic mode, which allows her to swim on the surface of water like a speedboat. Furthermore, she can launch mini-missiles and other kinds of ordinance. In Episode 9 of the original anime, a Battle Model android with the same style head as Chachamaru and a tank-like body is shown being worked on by the Robotics club. It is shown to have missile launcher. The tank-like body is very similar to that of the RX-75-4 Guntank from the Mobile Suit Gundam series.

Negima!?
Initially, Chachamaru remains by Evangeline's side during her master's reign of terror on campus, protecting and fighting for her. But once again like the manga, she is forced into combat with Asuna after the redhead becomes Negi's first Pactio, leading eventually to Eva's defeat. However, Chachamaru isn't completely invincible: after her first encounter with Negi in battle, she nearly malfunctions forcing Satomi to spend time on various repairs to make sure she was ready for her next assault on campus. While not much of an important action, Satomi notes that the care for her robotic partner shows that Evangeline isn't as heartless as she claims.
Chachamaru spends most of the series by the side of Evangeline, assisting her both in battle and in the preparation of tea or noodles alongside Takahata. Although she is loyal to Eva, she isn't afraid to interact with others or show her feelings or fight for either her teacher or for her master. After Evangeline is possessed by the master of the Star Crystal and subsequently possess Asuna, the robot is forced to fight the redhead once again, with the tide of her alliance forced to change for this battle. Though Chachamaru is knocked down at one point, repairs by Satomi makes her more battle ready for combat in her rematch with the redhead. After victory, Chachamaru becomes the final pactio of the series, stealing a kiss from Negi without warning.
Although she does gain Pactio with Negi, the only release of her abilities was in the final episode, where she was placed in a pink mechanical coverall Cosplay outfit and watches over the doll-like transformation of her vampiric master. However, viewers do see Chachamaru in her Suka form in a strange omake after the "Suka incident", where she suddenly turns into a giraffe.
As an added note, she makes every effort to hide her joints that are visible when she is naked. She wears thigh-high socks to hide her leg joints and gloves to hide the joints in her hands. Her summer uniform also includes a long-sleeved (rather than the usual short-sleeved) blouse to hide her arm and shoulder joints. This is like wearing her normal spring/winter uniform, but without the blazer and with the green necktie typically worn in the summer months.

Pactio Cards
Pupa Somnians: In chapter 263 she finally made pactio with Negi. Her weapon, which is revealed in chapter 281, is the Type-2130 Chao Bao Zi Satellite Support System: Al-Iskandariya ("Flying Cat") and consists of a laser designator and satellite weapon combo, with both weapons shaped to resemble cats (reflecting Chachamaru's tendency to care for stray cats). Due to the area covered by the satellite's beam, it can only be used from a safe distance.

She wears a black cloak with numerous laser cannons hidden underneath them.

Giraffe

Wears a full suited engineering outfit surrounded by gears. She carries a doll version of Evangeline as her main artifact.

Lethal Weapon: She wears a maid-like outfit with a sword latched on a gauntlet on her right wrist. This also happens to be the outfit that she was seen wearing when she and her master fought against Negi and Asuna earlier in the series.

KUGIMIYA MADOKA 釘宮 円
Student Number 11. Birthday: 3 March 1989.

She is the serious one of the three cheerleaders in the class. She makes sure that the other cheerleaders (especially Sakurako) do not get into any trouble. She likes gyūdon and silver accessories and generally into Western music (currently is a fan of Avril Lavigne from notes), but hates playboys and is mildly obsessed with her husky voice. Her surname is usually the target of nickname making (which Madoka does not like) from her classmates.
During the school festival, she develops a small crush on the teenage form of Kotarou. She has been shown to be very protective of her friends, and especially for Ako, whom she encourages to be more confident. Ironically, she almost got Ako shot when she pressed the shy girl to confess her love for "Nagi" (teenage Negi) in front of an audience during the Live Mahora Concert. Luckily for Ako, and much to Madoka's consternation, she only asked for Nagi's e-mail address. Madoka also takes part in the "Mars vs. Mages" game and is among the first "casualties" (meaning her clothes were blasted off), when she is hit by the robots' strip beams.

Epilogue
She, like the rest of the class, assists Negi in saving Nagi and defeating the Mage of the Beginning. A firm goverment official who worked at evevator customs. Her job is quite tough, thanks to the development of Mahora , she is happy that she can have fun without traveling far. Her eyes are drawn to anyone black-haired and dog-eared.

Pactio Cards
Manga: Hilaratrix Durans: None, as of now.

Dressed in her cheerleader outfits and is able to empower the others with cheers. In Satsuki's case, Madoka was able to make Satsuki go faster to feed a huge crowd of demons.

Black panther

She is dressed like a gang member (while wearing a bikini under her jacket) complete with a giant ball and chain on her leg and an immense wooden mallet as her artifacts. The outfit is a slightly adapted version of a "boy outfit" she wore in the manga (when she and the other cheerleaders were pursuing Negi and Konoka).

Yo-yo Ma: She is dressed in her school uniform with a yo-yo as her weapon, as used by the main heroines of Sukeban Deka. However, she also wears a metal gauntlet glove and a metallic headband under her hair. She uses the yo-yo as her weapon.

KU FEI 古 菲
A fictional character from the manga series Negima!: Magister Negi Magi, created by Ken Akamatsu. The 12th student in Japanese alphabetical order of class 2/3-A, she is the silly, fun-loving Chinese warrior girl of the class. Although she can appear to be to be an idiot who uses her fists rather than her mind, Kū's fighting skills are top-notch making her one of the more dangerous students in the class. Becoming an early trusted ally of Negi Springfield (as well as a member of his "Baka Rangers"), she also teaches him Kung Fu in order to help him progress in his own training. She is also infamous for her appetite and her obsession with nikuman from fellow "Chinese" classmate Chao Lingshen.

Background & Personality
Kū is the energetic and joyful kung fu fighting Chinese girl of class 3-A. In her initial appearance, she was identified as a foreigner by fellow classmate Chisame. However unlike many of her fellow classmates, Kū is one of the few who is open about this, as her background is apparently mundane. The most obviously foreign part of her appearance is her darker than average skin; although not as dark as Mana's and Zazie's, her skin is slightly darker than most of the other girls in the class. This dark skin is not natural to the typical Han Chinese (such as Chao), implying that she is from another part of the country.
Kū's native language is Chinese, and her knowledge of Japanese is comparatively poor. She lacks the genius intelligence or long exposure to Japanese of her classmates. It is this language barrier that holds her back from succeeding in class. This problem has made Kū "Baka Yellow" of the "Baka Rangers" (or Dummy Force in the FUNimation dub) study group, since she can't concentrate much on her studies as she is still learning Japanese. Although Akamatsu does depict Kū as knowing the basics of the language, she does add the ending of "aru" (アル) in katakana to the end of her sentences to address her depiction of the language. This depiction of Kū's speech is hard to translate into other languages accurately. While early English renditions of the Del Rey English manga had Kū speak more naturally, later volumes have depicted Kū Fei's Chinese accent as "pidgin" English. This decision was made by Negima's adaptor Trish Ledoux, notable for doing similar to Chinese character Shampoo in Ranma ½..
Outside her foreign heritage and poor schoolwork, Kū is known as one of the most powerful fighters in the school. Within 3-A itself, she is identified as the fourth strongest after Setsuna Sakurazaki, Mana Tatsumiya and Kaede Nagase. While she is extremely skilled and knowledgeable about Chinese kenpo style martial arts, Kū lacks knowledge and control of magic, a significant weakness. Whereas Setsuna, Mana and even Kaede know magical skills and combine them with fighting ability, Kū's strength comes merely from her own ki control and skill. Despite this, Kū is a highly skilled warrior both unarmed and armed. She has been seen using knives, swords and Chinese war hammers.
While Kū is merely the fourth strongest in 3-A, she still stands way above many of the other fighters at Mahora Academy. In the year prior to the start of the series, she won the martial arts tournament at the academy. Because of this, she is challenged day after day by many powerful students attempting to prove their own strength. She is always victorious in these contests. Kū's athleticism and skill does not only extend to the battlefield; when challenged in a bowling match without ever playing the game before, she scored a perfect 300 on her first try. It is this skill and ability that attracted the attention of her teacher Negi Springfield when he wanted to learn to fight. Mana described her that "as a normal human, Kū Fei is without a doubt the strongest".
Outside of class, Kū Fei works at the Chao Bao Zi Chinese restaurant cart run by her friend and fellow "Chinese" student Chao Lingshen. Besides working as a waitress at the restaurant, Kū has a voracious appetite for the food served there, particularly Chao's specialty nikuman dumplings that she even eats during class. Due to their similarities, Kū and Chao are great friends. Unfortunately their friendship only goes so far; whenever Chao or her assistant Satomi need a guinea pig for their new inventions, Kū finds herself stuck as their "volunteer".

Character Design
When designing the class for Negi to teach in, it was obvious that not every member of the class were going to be normal Japanese girls. In addition to the supernatural members of the class, some of the students were merely going to be strange due to coming from a completely different culture. When Ken Akamatsu developed Kū Fei, he chose to go with a familiar stock character with some adjustments to make her more individual. Kū comes from the common tradition of placing a Chinese character in a class of Japanese; due to the proximity between China and Japan, the two cultures are consistently feeding off each other in both their similarities and differences. The usage of a Chinese student also allowed Akamatsu to include a Chinese martial arts user in his class, adding in the variety of skills possessed.
However, even excluding Kū's character, there still exist some differences to the standard depiction. Kū's skin color is not a pure white similar to that idealized by the Han Chinese. Her darker skin tone increases the visual diversity in the class while going with the typical Chinese stereotype. However, the fact that Kū is a hyperactive dark-skinned foreigner has noticeable similarity with Akamatsu's previous manga series Love Hina, particularly the character Kaolla Su. Many of Su's traits are shared by Kū, yet she is sufficiently different to make her own character. Most noticeably, she is a strong fighter rather than a scientific genius.
Ku Fei states in the manga that her first kiss can only be given to person that defeats her (Negi in this case) in some form of challenge.

Part in the Story
Kū Fei's role in the story starts early on with her membership of the infamous "Baka Rangers" group as "Baka Yellow", although her poor academic performance is mostly due to her poor Japanese. She assists Negi through the Library Island arc. Always trying to stay in the limelight, Kū does show her enthusiasm for her teacher whenever he's around, helping her out or not.
Although initially not a part of the magical world, during the class trip to Kyoto, she soon starts to get involved. She takes part in the "Kiss Negi" contest run by Kazumi, hoping to get her first kiss out of it. While she does get a kiss, it is from one of Negi's paper clones leading to a "bad Pactio" card. She learns of Negi's secret when she, Mana, and Kaede came to the help of Negi, Asuna, and Setsuna to rescue Konoka. Although she easily defeated many of the summoned monsters, they were much weaker than the opponents defeated by other of her classmates.
After the Kyoto trip, she becomes Negi's martial arts instructor at the latter's request. Taking on the silly guise of  "wise master" Kū Rōshi (wearing a more traditional outfit as well as a white beard), she teaches Negi the basics of ki and technique to allow him to pass Evangeline's test in order to study magical combat under the powerful vampire.
During the Wilhelm incident, Kū Fei was one of many girls who were initially kidnapped by Wilhelm and the Slime sisters, only for them to escape and assist Negi in the battle, with her rescuing Chizuru from the watery cell that she was being held in.
Although assisting her class during the Mahora festival, her main concern was repeating her victory in the Mahora Martial Arts tournament, this year organised by her friend Chao (as part of her own plans). Facing Mana in combat, she is forced to use all her skill to barely defeating her. But the victory came at a cost; she broke her left arm while fighting against Mana and was forced to drop out. Her arm was later healed by Colonel Sanders (alter ego of Albireo Imma).
Even though Kū was Chao's best friend in the entire class, Chao concealed her plans to changing the future from her. She was the first to be told that Chao was leaving the school and at her farewell party she gave her the most honorable words of goodbye in the class. She was one of the girls trapped in the future with Negi after Chao had succeeded in revealing magic to the world. During the battle of Mahora, along with Haruna, she stayed behind to fight the Chachamaru clone and two other robots, while Negi went after Chao. After the battle was finally over, despite being her friend's opponent during the entire incident, Chao did give a tearful farewell to Kū as she departed back to her home for the final time.
She is a member of Negi's White Wing and accompanied him to England and to the Magical World, where they were attacked by Fate and his comrades. Kū Fei manages to fight effectively during the assault, even managing to nearly blind side Fate with a powerful Ki beam. However, despite the efforts of her and the other fighting members of the White Wing, Fate manages to destroy the magical gateway, scattering her and the rest of the group all across the magical world. She has recently been found by Negi's group, having survived by working as a bodyguard for hire, and, like many of the other members of the White Wing, she has apparently used the opportunities presented by the Magical World to improve her skills. She was found practicing her techniques by breaking tall pillars of rock.
She had gone to the ruins along with Kaede to find the portal gate there, and since the two were searching for the gate, they were unable to aid Negi in his negotiations with Fate. She attended the ball, where she challenged Negi to an arm wrestling match, during which it is revealed that she has become a well known bodyguard and taken down an underworld organization. Since she lost the match, she has made a Pactio with Negi. Later during the ball, she used her newly acquired Pactio item to burst into the room where Negi was meeting Godel, allowing him and the girls that accompanied him into the room the chance to escape and meet up with the rest of the White Wing group.
Once the group invaded gravekeeper's palace they came into a full confontation with dyanamis and fate's girls.
Later once Negi's battle with Fate began Ku Fei and everyone else present attempted to rescue Asuna. They were ultimately defeated by Shinbare.

Epilogue
She, like the rest of the class, assists Negi in saving Nagi and defeating the Mage of the Beginning. Thought the streets of Mahora are small, she opened a hall to gather fine disciples, while she contiunes to obtain total victory at the Mahora Martial Arts Competition, which increases in scale every year. Her attitude is always one of humility. The eternal training partner Nagase Kaede. Her challenging Negi to a match every New Year´s Day has become a tradition.

Abilities
Pactio: Pugilatum Exercens: Ku Fei's artifact is known as Shinchintetsu Jizaikon. She can make this weapon extend and increase/decrease it's size at will. She formed pactio with Nagi in Chapter 261. In Chapter 273, her Pactio artifact is revealed to be a copy of the Ruyi Jingu Bang, the legendary staff wielded by the Monkey King, a character in the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West.

Expert Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Despite being master of Chinesse Martial Arts, her rank does not reflect her fighting abilities, which can rivalry with Chao Lingshen.

Master Swordsmanship Specialist: Despite being master of Chinesse Martial Arts, her rank does not reflect her fighting abilities. She uses a fighting style that is noted at being rough but powerful alongside the use of complex movements that allows her to lunge with her staff from the left and defend with her sheath at the right, though she is ambidextrous and can easily switch between the two techniques. She uses misdirection in her attacks and even though doing so allows for holes in her defense she is more then capable of making it up with surprise attacks.

Physical Capabilities

KU in other Media
Mahō Sensei Negima (1st Anime)
Kū keeps most of her typical story connection and abilities in this anime, including her usage in the Baka Rangers and against the demons of Kyoto. Her pactio item is a magic tonfa that emits waves.

Negima!?
Kū exhibits her typical wild, stupid and powerful side in this anime, showing herself from the beginning as using her abilities during class even when it has no meaning or reason for doing so, if only to show off. Although mostly working on her own in the midst of things, she does interact with other members of the class when needed: she is a temporary member of Asuna's Chupacabra club, a part of the infamous Baka Rangers who fights before really thinking and a foil for the flighty actions of Ayaka in her Negi pursuits. Also like the manga, she does show some interaction with her friend Chao, including an omake where their fighting skills and Chao's inventive genius collide in an unexpected manner.
Although Kū Fei is one of the few girls that attempts a Pactio from the mass group, her first attempt is messed up when she kicks Negi during the ceremony. Due to this, Negi accidentally pulls her Suka form to assist: a tiger. While initially seen as a useless Suka form, the invocation of Kū's tiger form during the "Suka incident" shows she still keeps the same strength, skill and ki control as she holds as a human. During the Final Pactio Invocation, she becomes an intoxicated drunken fist master who takes advantage of the sake in her artifact, a gourd, even though she is too young to drink in the first place, at least in Japan. Kū chooses to remain drunk with this as opposed to using it for any good to the class.
Like the manga, Kū takes on the guise of the wise Kū Rōshi whenever she needs to take a more perspective situation on the world. However, she does express that she is at peace with herself without any troubles, making her lack of mental usage more of an annoyance to everyone around her.

Pactio Cards
Pugilatum Exercens: Ku Fei's artifact is known as Shinchintetsu Jizaikon, it is a heavy martial arts quarterstaff that she is capable of extending and enlarging to attack far away targets. Kurt Godel refers to it as a replica of the legendary Ruyi Jingu Bang, the weapon of the Monkey King.

Magical tonfa that emit waves of energy when used.

Tiger (During her first attempt to activate her Pactio, she accidentally kicks Negi's hand, just as he was about to pull out a card, causing him to choose wrong.)

Becomes a drunken fist master wearing a yellow robe who carries a sake-filled gourd.

God's Dwell Cloth: Dressed in a Chinese martial arts master outfit similar to Gen, she uses powerful Kung-Fu moves in battle. Her weapon is a blue sash.

KONOE KONOKA  近衛 木乃香
A fictional character from the manga series Negima!: Magister Negi Magi, created by Ken Akamatsu. The 13th student in Japanese alphabetical order of class 2/3-A, she is the cheerful, helpful and slightly naive roommate of Asuna Kagurazaka (and likewise her teacher Negi Springfield). From birth, Konoka was tied to several powerful magical organizations (her father is the chief of the Kansai magic association and was a member of Nagi Springfield's "Crimson Wings", her grandfather is the dean of Mahora Academy), yet she was sent away kept in the dark about her heritage of magic. Only after a trip to her home in Kyoto does Konoka finally discover the power locked away and allies with Negi in order to release it to her fullest potential. She is also extremely notable for a close relationship with her classmate/guardian Setsuna Sakurazaki. She's also a Chosen One.

Background & Personality
Konoka is a cheerful and caring girl who lives with Asuna Kagurazaka and Negi Springfield. If anything, she is the mediator of the group, being both Asuna's best friend and Negi's biggest supporter. She appears to be the "mother" of the trio in the living facility, choosing to help, cook and look after Negi while putting up with the harsh comments Asuna made towards the child teacher. Yet even with her slightly oblivious mind, Konoka is one of the smarter students in the class (compared to her "Baka Ranger" roommate) though she doesn't choose to show it like other book-smart students outside an occasional membership in the "Library Exploration Club" with Nodoka, Yue & Haruna. A fan of fortune-telling, she has tremendous magical potential, having come from a family of powerful mages. Her father, Eishun Konoe , is the chief of the Kansai Magic Association, who married her mother, the school headmaster's daughter, in an arranged marriage in order to ease tension between the Kansai and Kantō (where Mahora Academy is located) Magic Associations. Her grandfather, Konoemon Konoe, is the dean of Mahora Academy and also knows of the potential of Konoka, both as a bride and as a mage. Occasionally, he attempts to try to broker a powerful marriage between Konoka and a male mage as an omiai (Japanese arranged marriage) for her. Konoka usually just bears through her grandfather's good intentions and tries to just pass it along as best as she can.
Outside Negi and Asuna, Konoka's closest relationship at Mahora Academy is with her classmate and guardian Setsuna Sakurazaki. Ever since childhood in Kyoto, the two had a close friendship, playing and protecting one another from their difficulties. One day, Setsuna failed to save Konoka from falling into a local stream. Blaming herself for the accident, she chose to avoid her friend at all cost. Even at Mahora, she still felt guilt ridden of previous associations and continued to remain distant, despite her friend wanting to restore their previous relationship. After the incident at the Kyoto trip, Setsuna's distancing ended; and the two became close friends once again. At the same time, Setsuna avoided any further feelings, associated with the various arranged marriages Konoka tried desperately to avoid.
She is a member of the Konoe family of the Fujiwara clan, the source for all imperial brides from the 8th through 19th centuries. Konoka was not informed by her father of her magical potential or of her family's mystic history, as he wanted her to live a normal life. Before learning of Negi's magical background, she was very interested (and still is) in fortune-telling and anything pertaining to the occult. She is the President of Mahora's Fortune-Telling Club. She also has a Pactio; with her childhood friend Setsuna Sakurazaki.

Character Design
From the beginning of the development of the Negima series, Ken Akamatsu understood the need to create a sidekick character in the class alongside female lead Asuna Kagurazaka. Though attempting through several other characters and designs, the character that is Konoka was developed as the exact opposite of Asuna in many different means. As Asuna was a combative, tomboy female without any nurturing nature and a forgotten past, Konoka was created as the caring, motherly female of the duo, immediately connected to the magical world yet hidden away from her by her family for her own safety. With Negi being forced to live with the duo from the beginning, Konoka's character is used as the motherly, assisting female to make up for the deficiencies held by Asuna.
Because of her magical background and her place connected with both Negi's stay and to the group his father formerly lead, Konoka eventually finds her way into the story as the "healer" of his own developing group. Although remaining oblivious and cheerful with her new position in the story, she is forced with greater responsibilities with her own awakening magical potential. Similarly planned and explored is her relation with Setsuna, established even before their part in the story as the only two members of the class from Kyoto and thus drawing on each other for the character development as master and guardian. Yet even with the growing threat and troubles, Konoka remains with her sweet, happy-go-lucky personality who believes everything will be all right in the end.

Part in the Story
Konoka was one of the first students Negi encountered (along with Asuna) from the moment he arrived at Mahora Academy. However compared to Asuna, Konoka took the idea of having a child teacher much better and did her part in helping him get accustomed to life at his new school. Early on, Konoka did not interact as much with Negi compared to Asuna and several others. Her most significant contributions included assisting the Library Exploration Club (along with Yue) in search of a book to help the Baka Rangers pass their final and speaking with Negi and doing fortune telling for him after another one of her omiai meetings (coincidentally taking place at a moment when everyone though Negi was talked about "getting married" as he begins talking of getting a magical partner).
After his encounters with Evangeline, Negi gets a clue on the search of his father in Kyoto. Yet from his word of going to Kyoto, he also learned of Konoka's association with the Kansai Magic Association and is asked to protect her on their journey there. Yet for Chamo, Negi's perverted ermine partner, he saw this as a chance to make Konoka become a Pactio partner and get more "Ermine Dollars" in the process. Seducing Konoka with the Pactio already made with Asuna, she finally attempted to kiss Negi on the cheek...leading to a Botched Card and caused the magic in her blood to awaken. Negi and Konoka further bonded prior to Kyoto on a shopping trip for Asuna, but this is nearly ruined by the influence of the 3-A cheerleaders (under Ayaka's command).
Once in Kyoto, Konoka finds herself a massive target for several supernatural warriors, hoping to use her for their own devices. With her in danger, Negi, along with Asuna and Setsuna, are forced to fight back against the invaders while protecting Konoka from capture. However, one of these encounters forces the Kyoto-raised girl to release her dormant magical abilities unexpectedly to save Setsuna from a possibly disabling attack. With Konoka's powers finally revealed, the evil mages take her captive and use her to awaken a powerful demon, forcing Negi's squadron to come to her rescue and even forcing Evangeline to come to Kyoto to stop the menace. Ultimately, at the end of the battle, Konoka herself becomes a hero by kissing Negi directly on the lips, using her dormant healing skills to save Negi from petrification and likewise making her become Negi's fourth Pactio partner.
Konoka's magic ability first manifested on the tip of her finger during a shopping trip with Negi, and was briefly released when she healed Setsuna's arrow wound during a fight in Kyoto. When Negi was caught in the effect of a petrification spell, Konoka formed a full temporary pactio with him in order to reverse the petrification. The pactio process had also reversed the petrification spell on those affected at her home at the same time. Her artifact is an Onmyouji's outfit with fans that allow her to heal any injury within three minutes. She is beginning to learn magic from Negi and Evangeline, and is able to cast a few simple spells like Yue. She has strong affection for Setsuna, and this often makes their friendship seem more akin to a romantic relationship (although this mostly is from Setsuna's side, as Konoka has admitted in Volume 2 that she isn't ready for any serious relationship with anybody), and has occasionally shown interest in Negi Springfield (especially when he was magically altered by the Age-Deceiving Pills). She is sometimes shown in the manga dressed similar to white mages from the Final Fantasy series.
During the Wilhelm incident, Konoka was one of many girls who were initially kidnapped by Wilhelm and the Slime sisters, only for them to escape and assist Negi in the battle, with her rescuing Setsuna from the watery cell that she was being held in.
During the Mahora Festival, she along with Negi and some of the other girls had become trapped in the future where Chao had succeeded in revealing magic to the world. After a series of battles and narrow escapes, the group had returned to the past to stop Chao's plan. During the "Mage vs. Martian" battle, she worked in the infirmary, using her powers openly to heal those who manage to get injured in the mostly bloodless fighting.
Recently, she and Setsuna were invited to join Negi in his trip to Wales. She and Setsuna were practicing magic in Eva's resort, in which Konoka reveals a variation of her Pactio Healing outfit. She is also showing promise during a telekinesis exercise when she starts knocking down targets with psychic waves with relative ease. She is also a target for the Badge Collection game, but Yuna and other Athletic club members consider her as difficult with Setsuna always protecting her. Her badge is never targeted.
At present, she and the rest of the White Wing are enjoying the hospitality of Nekane's home and touring Negi's hometown. After seeing the petrified statues of the victims of Negi's village, Konoka becomes even more determined to master healing magic. Currently, she and the rest of the White Wing club had just passed through the portal into the Magic World. Konoka is ecstatic at the prospect of seeing fairies and other mystical creatures and places, though her mood immediately changes to extreme horror when Negi is severely injured by Fate and her Pactio Card sealed away, thereby preventing her from using her healing ability. However, as Asuna releases the White Wing's weapons and magical artifacts from their container, Konoka was able to heal Negi in time. However even with Negi back in the fight he could not stop Fate from destroying the magical gateway. This is turn caused a massive explosion of displacement magic that scattered Konoka and the rest of the White Wing members across the magical world. She has been journeying with Kaede, helping her out as a bounty hunter, and has recently been reunited with Asuna and Setsuna. Currently, the group have made their way to the festival and fighting tournament at Ostia. Despite being warned to keep a low profile due to the bounties on their heads, Konoka becomes excited at the various sights and events at the festival.
She then, with everyone else, goes to rescue Nodoka from the "Black Hounds", though she herself didn't play a part in the short-lived battle. On the first day of the festival, she, Rakan, and Chamo were confronted by two of Fate's Ministra Magi, with them being trapped in an alternate dimension. Luckily, Rakan was able to destroy the barrier dimension, allowing him and Konoka to arrive to assist Negi in his confrontation with Fate. Recently, Konoka has made her first Pactio as a Magistra Magi, with Setsuna being her Ministra Magi.

Epilogue
She, like the rest of the class, assists Negi in saving Nagi and defeating the Mage of the Beginning. As Magister Magi, he battle continues daily as she fights {C for the innocent civilians who could not all be saved by Negi's plan... was how it should have been, but instead it became noisy days fighting to protect her attendant from the stalker Tsukuyomi. In 2017, after many years of study, she treated the petrification of the people of Negi's village and took this chance to marry. This can be assumed to be Setsuna as both are married in the same year with them both being shown as still partners in the epilogue.

Abilities
Pactio: Regina Medicans: Konoka has currently formed one Pactio with Negi in Chapter 52. The entire outfit she wears on her card, including the fans, known as Flabellum Euri and Flabellum Australe, is her artifact, in which has been revealed to heal any injuries as long they had occurred within 3 minutes. She has also been training herself with simple incantations to heal minor scrapes and cuts. In chapter 150, Konoka heals a boy's knee with just her practice wand. While training in Evangeline's resort for the trip to Magic Country, Konoka's Pactio outfit changed to the nurse's outfit that she wore during Day 3 of the Mahora Festival, although the fans are still part of the attire. However, she returns to using the original outfit by the time Negi and his crew arrive in Magic Country. When used at its full power (such as using it to save Negi's life after being impaled by Fate) her soul literally leaves her body thereby releasing her full magical powers and she is able to use them to save a life from the brink of death. However this process leaves her severely drained and she isn't able to use her healing abilities for a period of time afterward. Furthermore, it appears that there are also side-effects if too much magic is put into the effect. The patient becomes prone to becoming sick afterwards due to the overflow of magical power. After being healed of a fatal wound, Negi gets a high fever when searching for the scattered members of the White Wing. Currently, her Pactio ability is powerful enough to heal a dragon, though she stated she can only use it once a day.

Magical Abilities: With Konoka now aware of her magical abilities, she has begun to undergo magic training so that she can utilize her full magic potential and be able to heal others without needing to rely on her Pactio item. So far, she has shown some proficiency in using practice spells and minor healing incantations as well as showing some talent using telekinesis. In chapter 224, she has been shown to use magic arrows against Fate's Ministra Magi. She also now serves as a Magistra Magi, with Setsuna as her Ministra.

Fortune Telling: Though she is President of the Fortune Telling Club and does have the magical potential (she is currently training to be an onmyouji), she has yet to display any signs of actual precognition. Most of her predictions are done as jokes (such as telling Asuna how to win Takahata, and predicting Negi's partner).

KONOKA in Other Media
Mahō Sensei Negima (1st Series)
It was mentioned in the anime series that Konoka's powers are comparable to those of the Thousand Master, while in the manga, it said that she has the magic potential to even surpass that of the Thousand Master's. She potentially has enough power that she can heal those who were petrified by the high-class demon Graf Hermann during his attack on the village where Negi and Nekane grew up.

Negima!?
Although she remains the granddaugther of the Mahora dean, Konoka's magic and potential is not as emphasized. Instead, the second anime focuses more on her air-headed personality and her shoujo-ai relationship with Setsuna. In many scenes, Konoka appears to be more forward towards Setsuna, who ends up taking her comments or ideas to a different perspective, yet Konoka appears more oblivious towards the feelings.
Although she is a major member of Negi's team and an early Pactio in this series (she becomes the third Pactio), none of her abilities are connected in any way to her massive healing potential like in the manga or the first anime. Her Armor card involves a set of I Ching sticks (used for fortune telling) which she can manipulate like a whip, her Cosplay card lets her manipulate water with paper fans, and her Suka card turns her into a koala.
During the tug-of-war between Asuna and Ayaka using clothespins, Konoka is the one who reminds Negi of Ayaka and Asuna's relationship, implying that she is in the same class as the two since grade school.
During a number of scenes in the anime series, Konoka is drawn with a facial expression that resembles Ichijo from Pani Poni Dash!, which is one of numerous parodies in Negima!? as Pani Poni Dash was also produced by Shaft under director Akiyuki Shinbo and both characters were voiced by Ai Nonaka.

Pactio Cards
Regina Medicans: The entire outfit she wears on her card, including the fans (known as Flabellum Euri and Flabellum Australe), is her artifact, in which has been revealed to heal any injuries as long they had occurred within 3 minutes. However, Konoka has mentioned that she can't heal them if their heads get crushed "like a tomato". In recent chapters, Konoka's Pactio outfit has changed to the nurse's outfit that she wore during Day 3 of the Mahora Festival, although the fans are still part of the attire.

Negima!:
Presumably the same as the manga, though her power was never shown.

Koala

Dressed in a fancy kimono similar to an outfit from the Kyoto arc. Her attack is to spout water by using the fans she holds in her hands as her main artifacts. In the card itself, she stands on a bridge-like platform with two objects similar to lamp posts behind her.

=Kochi No Hiougi (sic), Hae No Suehiro: Her weapons are a set of expanding fortune-telling chopsticks, which she is able to use like a whip.

SAOTOME HARUNA 早乙女 ハルナ (春奈)
Birthday: 18 August 1988.
Blood Type: B
Likes: Tea parties, Crime scenes
Hates: Bugs, Deadlines
Clubs: Mang Research Society, Library Expedition Club
Pen name is "Paru."

She is the local rumormonger, manga artist, and a frequent companion of Yue and Nodoka.

Appearances & Personality
Like the other members of the Library Exploration Club (except for Yue), Haruna does well on school tests. If there is a rumor going around in the class, she is usually at the root of it all. It is said that her rumor-spreading abilities are so well developed that she can spread them to the other end of the school in two hours. She eventually figured out Negi's secret at the tournament, as well as the fact that her friends Yue,
Subsequently, she interrogated them (well, she sketched a manga of her interrogating them and told them that was what she would do to them) until they told her everything. As a member of the Library Exploration Club, she seems to have made it her mission to get Nodoka together with Negi, whether Nodoka wants her help or not. She also draws manga and goes by the nickname "Haru" (or "Paru", "Pal"). She occasionally uses illustrations to express ideas or feelings. She draws the "Mahō Shōjo" ("Magical Girl") manga series, which is very popular in Mahora. She loves the idea of magical artifacts and such (due to her hobby with manga and the idea of magical girls), and even tried immediately to do a Pactio with Negi as soon as she found out (by kissing him the next moment she saw him). Like with Kazumi, Chamo has taken a liking toward Haruna and she played a part in getting Yue to make a Probationary Contract with Negi. Then with Konoka's help, she promptly took advantage of the opportunity to get a pactio for herself.
During the "Big Breast Competition" it's noted that her breasts are larger than Ayaka's.

Part in the Story
Haruna only learns about magic later in the story but that didn't mean she wasn't involved. She was more adept in the Kyoto arc. Initially she was one of the people to drink the sake and become drunk. The next day she and Yue encouraged Nodoka on her date with Negi. Although she finds Negi cute she is more of a supporting character pushing Nodoka to her limit with Negi. She later fights with the others against Tsukuyomi's pets and does well enough to make a nice side scene. She later follows Setsuna and Konoka to the Kansai association and that is where she is turned to stone.
During the trip into the future, Haruna becomes more adept in using her artifact and has proven quite useful, both in combat and in diverting the enemy with her lifelike creations. As of now, she and the rest of the group have returned to the past to stop Chao from revealing magic to the world. When Chisame agreed to make a pactio with Negi, Haruna managed to push Ayaka and Makie out of the room and prevented them from learning about magic. Accompanying Negi to confront Chao, she stayed behind to help Ku Fei battle a trio of combat androids, including a prototype combat body for Chachamaru.
After the festival, she and the other Library Club members end up in the middle of Negi offering Asuna a chance to go to Wales and be his partner. After binding down Nodoka and Yue from getting away, she ends up coaxing Negi to taking her and the other two (even with their feelings for Negi nearly ruined with their interpretation of Negi's offer as a confession to Asuna) to Wales for their summer break. Forced into a corner, he accepts, allowing the Library Exploration Club to come on his new, dangerous journey.
While training inside Eva's resort in preparation for the trip to Wales, Haruna decided to make copies of herself in order to draw more images at the same time. Later she makes Dark Nodoka, an alternative version of Nodoka, and she had made plans to make an Erotic Nodoka too for Negi, but gets herself whacked by the real Nodoka after knowing her intentions by using her pactio.
After Haruna is lost in the Magic World, she remains missing until she reappears with a goldfish ship, the "Paru-Sama", which she claims was bought with the money she gained for exploiting her abilities in the Magic World. The Paru-Sama is used to reunite Nodoka with the rest of the class, and is frequently used as Ala Alba's shelter and transportation throughout the Magical World Arc. Haruna, alongside Chisame and Nodoka, uses her artifact to fight against Fate's ministra Shirabe, and works alongside Nodoka to read her mind. The fight takes a turn for the worse until Kotarou Inugami arrives to rescue her. She is among the group of students who explore the old Ostia Ruins during the festival, and discovers the signal of two Ala Alba badges -- presumed to be Yue's and Anya's -- coming from Fate's hideout.
Haruna also attempts to convince the students who haven't made a pactio to do so, telling them they need to have a "deep kiss" with Negi in order for it to work. At the Governor's Ball, she succeeds in having three girls complete provisional contracts, but is unable to get any more in before Negi's meeting with Kurt Godel. She watches the video of Negi and Kurt's confrontation, and tries to defend Kurt Godel's actions. She also understands Negi's intentions in siding with Kurt, believing Negi is trying to ensure the safety of his students in signing the contract. However, communications eventually breakdown and the Mahora girls are cornered by the Megalomesembrian army before Haruna summons the Paru-Sama for a cunning escape. When an attack from Cosmo Entelecheia scatters the students, Haruna directs them to their emergency meeting point. Piloting the Paru-Sama, Haruna teams-up with Sayo and Chachamaru to take down a giant shadow monster and evacuate their friends to safety.
Once they're free, Haruna notices a powerful magic coming from the gateport in old Ostia, and is convinced Fate and his gang are planning something. She then creates a diagram to explain Negi's current plan, which is to obtain the Great Grand Master Key, rescue Anya, and return to the real world.
Haruna apparently aspires to be conqueror of the Magic World, although it is unsure how serious she is.

Epilogue
She, like the rest of the class, assists Negi in saving Nagi and defeating the Mage of the Beginning. Making Megalo-Mesembria her primary residence, she became a best-selling author, boasting over-whelming popuplarity, especially in the BL category. The amount she has earned by herself in one generation is the highest in the class. When hit by writers block, she frequently uses her private warp gate to go shopping with friends.

Abilities
Pactio: Fictrix Comica: Her artifact, Imperium Graphices, is a set that consists of a sketchbook, hat, apron, and a feather quill that has the ability to make anything she sketches come to life. The clothing from her artifact materializes over the clothes she is already wearing. She has been experimenting with her artifact, making doodles of aliens, cats and Tama-chan from Love Hina. According to Chamo, the artifact is used for easy summoning of low-level golems. The number and size she can make is yet unknown. At this point, she was shown to be able to create lifelike copies of herself and the other girls in order to fool magical teachers who were after them. Her artifact most likely relies a lot upon her imagination as well as her sketch as the 2D drawing needs more than just that to become a 3D object. Though she was the sixth provisional contract Negi has made, the actual pactio card is not seen until Chapter 217 (Her official pactio design was seen in promotional materials prior).

Golem Summons :
Shield Maidens- Golems that can shield people between them. Haruna summoned four to protect her, Konoka and Chisame from Brigitte's Cantus Elejmosenes

Flying Manta Ray-A golem that can be used to carry people and fly. The manta ray can be piloted by thought through putting the hand in mark above its head. Haruna summoned it to dodge most attacks from Brigitte.

"Donzura"- A golem that appears to be a cat with only a pair of small legs and tail. It can transport and protect three people in its mouth. In addition, it can also resist concussive blows and bounce at incredible heights.

New Inferno Aniki EX- A golem that appears to be a demon. It is assumed it has exceptional prowess, however, its capabilities are unknown.

Jellyfish Hands- As its name suggests, it resembles jellyfish tentacles, that can grab and capture objects.
Sagitta Magica Mini Gun- A machine that operates expensive magical arrows scroll. According to Chamo, if kept shooting fot ten minutes, it has tremendous fire power.

Decoy Kamo-kun Grand March- Haruna draws a number of kamo's to use for decoy purposes, and for sheilding from massive long range attacks.

Drawing Speed: As a talented manga artist, Haruna possesses incredible drawing speed, using her artifact to create three lifelike golems in two minutes. Her greatest feat so far is creating a mid-level golem in only 2.7 seconds. She is also able to use her artifact to create copies of herself and draw even faster.

Communication Skills and Strategic Thinking: Although Haruna appears wild and excitable, she is very cunning and is able to notice many subtle behaviors among her classmates, such as Yue's crush on Negi, and Natsumi's crush on Kotaro. She is also the first to notice the depth of Anya and Negi's friendship due to the lack of honorifics used between them. Haruna also has a knack for planning ahead, as she is able to understand Negi's decision to side with Kurt Godel, and almost outwits the Megalomesembria soldiers before the sudden appearance of Cosmo Entelecheia. These abilities make Haruna 3-A's official "rumor-monger", a trait that keeps her in the dark about the existence of magic at the beginning of the series.

Appearances in Other Media
Negima!: Her artifact is a marker that can draw anything out of thin air. Her hair is also more green than brown.

Negima!?: Due to more recent manga events, Haruna became more prominent in this anime interpretation. She gains a pactio with Negi during the first half of the series, and invokes a Cosplay card that, like her manga pactio, animates her sketches to life. The only other pactio ability used is during the "Suka incident", where she turns into a penguin. She is also infamous for drawing the forms by which Shichimi and Motsu take during their investigations at Mahora Academy. Finally, she is one of the most active members of the Chupacabra club outside Asuna, consistently drawing the creature and attending meetings even if her red-headed leader makes little sense with some of their activities.

Pactio Cards
Fictrix Comica: Her artifact, Imperium Graphices, is also a set. Hers consists of a sketchbook, inkwell, and quill, as well as a hat and apron. As in the anime, whatever she draws becomes real. She has been experimenting with her artifact, making small doodles of aliens, cats and Tama-chan from Love Hina. According to Chamo, the artifact is used for easy summoning of low-level Golems. The number of images she can bring to life and the size she can make them is yet unknown. Currently, she was able to make lifelike copies of herself and several of the other girls in order to fool the magic teachers who were after them. It was shown that the images begin to degrade after a short while. She was also able to conjure up a giant armored warrior and dozens of Chamo duplicates. Apparently, she can make any of her images come to life at any time, and does not have to draw them on the spot. Another recurrent drawing is a giant martial arts warrior. She also shown to have drawn a female knight that she called Goddess of The Swords which is shown in chapter 142 to slice the feet of Orthrus Illusion to free Chisame and Nodoka. A side effect to her artifact is that whenever any of her art golems takes damage, 1% of the damage is transferred back to her.

A magic marker that allows her to bring any image she draws to life. (comparatively, this Pactio works by drawing in mid-air, while her actual Pactio can only be used with her magic sketchbook)

Penguin

She uses a magic sketchbook. Objects drawn on the sketchbook become animated and move out of the paper.

Popup Doodle: Dressed in a special outfit (long pink shirt, blue boots, skirt and beret) and equipped with a magic pen, she appears to use similar abilities to her manga version.

SAKURAZAKI SETSUNA 桜咲 刹那
A fictional character from the manga series Negima!: Magister Negi Magi, created by Ken Akamatsu. The 15th student in Japanese alphabetical order of class 2/3-A, she is a half-demon hanyō from Kyoto, sent to Mahora Academy to be the guardian of Konoka Konoe, the daughter of the Kansai Magic Association's leader. Although friends with Konoka from a young age, she ends up distancing herself from her due to a childhood accident, but is forced to come to terms and protect her as Konoka's dormant magical abilities makes her a target for other mages. A master of Shinmei-ryū swordsmanship, her abilities and skills makes her ally with Negi Springfield, developing another crucial friendship and allying her as a major member of his developing magical forces.

Background & Personality
She is a kendo expert of the 京都 神鳴流 , of fighting and has some knowledge of onmyō-jutsu. She wields a nodachi passed down to her from Eishun Konoe named 夕凪 (although it should be noted that the size does vary from time to time). A native of Kyoto, she is a childhood friend of Konoka and serves as her guardian. At that time she would often call Konoka both 'Kono-chan' and 'ojō-sama' interchangeably. Initially merely a guardian of Konoka when they were children, she stopped speaking to her after an incident where her ojōsama accidentally fell into a river and she could not save her. Punishing herself even with Konoka choosing to ignore the failure, she chose merely to protect her without speaking a word to her, even as both of them eventually end up in the same class at Mahora Academy. Some of the characters believe that she has romantic feelings for Konoka because of various hints, but this is subtext, while Yue herself thinks of it as nothing more than a mere misunderstanding by everyone. Although extremely devoted to Konoka, Setsuna feels unworthy of protecting her, and tries to maintain an atmosphere of impersonality.
Setsuna is a winged hanyō: the daughter of a human and a Crow Demon (Karasu-Tengu Yōkai). She has white wings, even though the wings of the crow tribe (Del Rey mistakenly calls this the "bird tribe" because the Kanji for bird and crow/raven are very similar) are black. It is hinted that this is because she suffers from albinism, as Evangeline has alluded to Setsuna that she is using colored contacts and hair dye. Viewed as a bad omen because of the white color of her wings, Setsuna was forced into exile from her tribe. She was picked up by Eishun Konoe, who brought her to his home in Japan.

Character Design
Setsuna's character is a natural evolution of ability and traits brought over from Ken Akamatsu's previous manga Love Hina, particularly in this case regarding fellow Shinmei-ryū warrior Motoko Aoyama. Motoko's character is, on the surface, a serious warrior who cares about fighting and honor, but in reality holds deep feelings within for Konoka and is willing to protect her if needs be. Setsuna's development within the story can be seen likewise: initially a mysterious, serious warrior, she comes to join in Negi's battles while slowly opening up her own feelings. Akamatsu states that she was created primarily as a warrior partner for Asuna as she begins to come into her own abilities as one of Negi's partners.
Although she could merely be seen as a Motoko clone, Setsuna has various attributes that differentiate her position in the story. Part of this is in regards to her hanyō heritage, making her both an outcast as well as a bridge between human and demon. Although her human side is explored by her attempts to open up towards Negi and her other allies, her demon side is a very touchy subject, particularly as Evangeline mocks her half-blood during the Mahora Tournament. Another key factor connected to Setsuna is her relation with ojōsama Konoka. While desiring to be her protector, she is also seen as conflicted by her feelings and emotions around her, leading to awkward comedic moments between the two of them.

Part in the Story
At the start of Negi's term teaching, Setsuna merely blends in to the background as another student in the class. However, as the class begins their trip to Kyoto in search of clues for his father, Setsuna begins to gain prominence in the plot both in being from Kyoto and from her connection towards Konoka. Initially mistrusting of her true nature, Negi and Setsuna are forced to team up as their fellow student becomes targeted by a mercenary squad of eastern mages, with Setsuna's main actions being both protecting her ojōsama and fighting against rival shinmeiryū student Tsukuyomi. While Setsuna's feelings towards Konoka are emphasized, she tries to avoid them initially in order to merely protect her, yet slowly gets in her good graces once again due to her intervention and the slow awakening of Konoka's own powers (partially due to an injury suffered by Setsuna in the midst of protecting her from the eastern mages).
She became the third person to form a probationary contract with Negi, in order to give her and Asuna a better chance at fighting off a horde of demons while Negi attempted to reach Konoka. During the battle against Great Demon God "Ryoumen Sukuna no Kami" she was forced to transform into her hanyō-self to be able to rescue Konoka from Chigusa. Forced is the word used because she tried to keep it a secret from Konoka since childhood (Setsuna was afraid that she might be rejected by the person that she wishes to protect). However, the law of her clan also states that when their hanyō-form has been seen by others, they are mandated to leave those who have seen their true form. It is only thanks to Negi's insistence that Setsuna stay around that she was prevented from running away right before the end of the Kyoto Field Trip Arc. This resulted in a further blossoming of her relationship with Konoka, and a friendship with Asuna and Negi, as well as her continued growth in the series (akin to Motoko Aoyama's change throughout the Love Hina series). Setsuna was almost forced to transform into her hanyō-form again during the Mahora Festival's final day, when they were falling from high up the sky after traveling back from the alternate future that Chao made. Before she is forced to bring about her wings, Negi stopped her so that the other girls, excluding Asuna and Konoka, would not know of Setsuna's true nature. Eventually, the rest of Negi's group (more specifically, Kaede, Ku Fei, and the Library Trio) would find out about Setsuna's wings during their training in preparation for the trip to Wales.
After the Kyoto trip ended, Setsuna became more open towards her other allies in the class, particularly as a partner for Negi and for Konoka. Konoka in particular insisted that 'Set-chan' call her 'Kono-chan' again, like she used to. For Setsuna though, calling Konoka only 'Ojō-sama' is now a force of habit, and Konoka appears to have relented in this. However, she still remained more a protector within the class as opposed to being more open about her feelings. It is through her protection of Negi at the start of the Mahora Festival that allows her to be one of the first to discover the power of the Casseopeia and allow for a little bit of time for her to "let her hair down" and have fun instead of consistently remaining in guardian mode. However, she is one of the first to question Chao's motives towards her kind gesture and her connection towards the festival. During the Mahora Fighting Tournament, she sends a mini-scout alongside Takamichi to investigate Chao while she herself takes part in the battles on the surface. Unfortunately none of Setsuna's battles turned out to be easy for her, being forced to face Asuna in the first round, the anger and torment of Evangeline's mind games in the quarterfinals, and even Negi himself in the semi-finals, where she finally falls.
Towards the end of the Festival arc, she and several other girls became trapped with Negi in the future after Chao had revealed the existence of magic to the world. After a long and hard battle, they finally manage to escape that future and head back to the past. Setsuna "performed" in the Mahora "Mars vs. Mages" battle as a "Hero Unit", allowing her to use her full abilities openly in fighting Chao's robot army.
She plans to accompany Konoka as she will be traveling with Negi to Wales. Her badge is never targeted in the Badge collection game, though she felt uneasy to wear the badge since the "new" club name written on the badge is none other than "white wing" in Latin.
Setsuna and the rest of the White Wing accompanied Negi to his hometown. She and the rest of the White Wing club enter the portal to the Magic World, only to wind up in battle with Fate himself. She barely saved Konoka in time from being turned into stone, by protecting her with her wings. However, she and the others could not stop Fate from destroying the magical gateway, causing a massive explosion of displacement magic which scattered her and all the members of the White Wing across the magical world. At first, her whereabouts were unknown, but she was confirmed to be accompanied with Asuna. The two saw Negi and Kotarou's stadium battles and were able to send word to Negi that they are alright, promising to meet up with them at a place called Ostia. The two of them reunited with Negi in Ostia. Later, she and Kaede were challenged by a bounty hunters group known as Canis Niger ("Black Hounds"), who had laid a trap for them in the form of a lightning mine, which was diverted by Asuna. After returning to Ostia, during Negi's negotiations with Fate, Tsukuyomi confronted her and she fights with her.
After the tournament, Setsuna is accompanying Konoka, and during that time she deals with an inner turmoil. Her conflict of her happiness or for the safety of Konoka because of her 'lack' of skill. In the end of chapter 252 Setsuna makes a pactio with Konoka, with the goal of becoming her partner as a Magister Magi, with a very long kiss, resulting in a new pactio card. Later on, she, with some help from Craig and Tosaca, rescues Negi from Godel during their initial confrontation. Setsuna helps support Negi in aerial fighting during the battle enroute to the Gravekeeper's palace. As they reunite with the others they enter gravekeeper's palace and quickly encounter a enemy, who looks just like Zazie. She is then effected by Zazie's artifact however eventually breaks out of it due to Negi weaking it by breaking out himself. As Mana stays behind to battle Zazie's sister Poyo they move on a head where Setsuna begins to clash with Tsukuyomi. As the battle rages on Setsuna notices the blade Tsukuyomi prepares to use the Fey Blade: "Hina" an evil demonic blade that posses the body of the user in order to give that user power. As Tsukuyomi uses the the blade and it takes over her body and the battle between the two truly begins. After a while, Tsukuyomi has manage to get the Advantage against Setsuna, and told her that she's wonderful and laughs. Setsuna told her that the 1.2 billion people in the the world is going to die and that she can still laugh. Tsukuyomi told her that what's the meaning in that, and she (Setsuna) cares only for His "Ojou-sama" (Konoka) and that Mundus Magicus is just an illusion.

Epilogue
She, like the rest of the class, assists Negi in saving Nagi and defeating the Mage of the Beginning. As devoted serveratn of Magister Magi Konoe Konoka, she was a wandering existence for a long time. However with the money she had been secretly and tirelessly saving, she pruchared a high-speed space cruiser. Though small, the 3LDK + Controll Room + Storage Room became her new home, she also became widly-known as one of the famous first-generation pilots of the space age. She married 2017, presumably to Konoka.

Abilities / Techniques
Pactio: Gladiaria Alata: Setsuna has currently formed two Pactios; one with Negi in Chapter 47 and one with Konoka.

Sica Shishikushiro: Setsuna's Pactio with Negi. A complementary shōtō, or, wakizashi, is Setsuna's pactio item. In addition to being an extra blade, it is able to multiply into 16 copies and attack the target like a swarm of wasps.

Techniques:
Shika Shishikuro- Setsuna uses her artifact full force by creating and using all 16 blades at once.

Cage of Entwined Lighting-Setsuna uses all 16 blades and creates a lighting force around the target that traps them and stops them from moving, block outside attacks and attacks the target with overwhelming force.

Takemikazuchi: Setsuna's Pactio with Konoka shows her in a maid outfit with cat ears and her wings. It's a sword that is made up of three pieces: a double edged-blade and a separate hilt which are connected in suspension by a glowing orb located at the middle of the sword. By recieving energy from Konoka, Setsuna can make the sword grow even larger.

Master Swordsmanship Specialist: Setsuna's fighting style, Shinmei-ryū, is the same as Motoko Aoyama from Love Hina, and she can execute techniques familiar to those who read LH, like Zanganken, Zankūsen, and Hyakka Ryōran.

Chi (Ki) Abilities: Besides her fighting skills, Setsuna also has some ability to manipulate magic as part of her combat training; for example, she can use paper dolls to create doppelgangers of other people. She can also transfer part of her ki or life force into a paper doll, resulting in a super deformed version of herself called Mini-Setsuna.

Hanyō : As a hanyō (in her case, half-crow demon), she possesses albino crow wings which she can use to fly.

SETSUNA in Other Media
Mahō Sensei Negima! (1st Series)
Initially in this interpretation of the Negima story, Setsuna mostly remained in the background, spending more time alongside Mana in defensive maneuvers and commentary about the class as opposed to the interactions made by the other students. While she still has her fears and worries in regards to Konoka, she does not face them until Kyoto, which remains mostly unchanged from the manga interpretation. After traveling to assist Negi in saving Asuna alongside the other students of the class, she joined in the mass Pactio (as opposed to getting a separate Pactio, let alone one prior to Konoka as it occurred in the manga), where her ability remains unchanged but was not used in the final battle.

Negima!?
Compared to other renditions, the troubles that initially appear between Konoka and Setsuna do not exist in this series. Setsuna protects and guards her ojōsama from the beginning as well as spends most of her time alongside her and making sure of her well-being. Even at moments when she is away from Konoka (considering Konoka lives with Asuna), she is always trying to find ways to keep connected, including the usage of a primitive cup telephone she and Kaede created for her mistress.
Because of her feelings and consistent desire to be near Konoka, Setsuna is usually used as part of several yuriesque jokes questioning the nature of her relations and feelings, usually used as the fodder for jokes. While Konoka's innocent mind can suggest one thing, Setsuna can end up misinterpreting her feelings or comments into something more emotional (including one moment where Konoka making a comment regarding a Pactio being like "an indirect kiss with her", Setsuna imagines a scene where she and Konoka nearly embrace one another). Since these feelings or ideas are locked within Setsuna's mind, Konoka ends up being oblivious towards them and merely laughs off her guardian's thoughts.
Like the manga, she gains one of the first four Neo-Pactio made with Negi in the series (she and Konoka switch places between the interpretations). Due to an early contract, she is one of the few to use all three forms within the entire run. Her Armor form transforms Setsuna into her hanyo-form, allowing her to enhance her shinmei-ryū strength alongside the affects of flowers (this is the only means Setsuna can transform into her white-winged hanyo form in this anime and it is not suggested otherwise outside this Neo-Pactio ability). In Cosplay form, she transforms into a more formal Shinsengumi-like warrior outfit with a naginata as her weapon. While in Suka form, she turns into a crane, and notably, she calls Konoka "Kono-chan," which is Setsuna's private pet name for Konoka instead of her usual title for her of "Ojou-sama(basically Princess)," likely because of the Suka form's side effect of regressing the minds of the Ministra Magi to that of a child's.
As an added bonus in this series, the bad drawing style of Setsuna's seiyu (Yu Kobayashi) is made fun of. In particular, a badly-drawn Setsuna cameos in this series at a moment to comment on Konoka after Konoka decides to start wearing one of Asuna's chupacabra T-shirts after Setsuna vows not to wear one and not to let Konoka don one, which Konoka did. These same drawings of Setsuna show up briefly in the Negima!? Natsu OVA, in the background slashing at unknown bouncing things, while Haruna speaks in the foreground. Yu Kobayashi eventually draws "bad renditions" of the entire class as part of the Negi-pa fan book series, usually as part of the preview for the next issue.

Negima!!
Recently, Setsuna has become the first character from the franchise to be played by two actresses in the live-action adaptation of the manga. The original actress, Haruki Ichikawa resigned herself from the show mid-production due to illness. Aina Nishiaki would play Setsuna for the remainder of that series.

Pactio Cards
Gladiaria Alata: Setsuna has currently formed two Pactios; one with Negi in Chapter 47 and one with Konoka.
Setsuna's Pactio artifact with Negi is Sica Shishikushiro, a complementary shōtō, or, wakizashi. In addition to being an extra blade, it is able to multiply into 16 copies and attack the target like a swarm of wasps, surrounding them in a barrier of sorts in which they are trapped in and thenceforth electrocuted.Takemikazuchi is Setsuna's Pactio artifact with Konoka (proving more than one pactio can result). The Pactio included a brand new card design as well. It's a sword that is made up of three pieces: a double edged-blade and a seperate hilt which are connected in suspension by a glowing orb located at the middle of the sword. By recieving energy from Konoka, Setsuna can make the sword grow even larger and much more powerful.

Negima!: Similar to her manga version

Crane

Dressed in her blue and turquoise samurai outfit from the Cinema Village section of the Kyoto arc (manga version) and wielding a naginata as her artifact. The design of this outfit is similar those traditionally worn by the Shinsengumi.

Sica Sisikusiro: Dressed in the traditional outfit of the bird demons, she wields her nodachi as well as her wings. All of Setsuna's Shinmei-Ryū attacks are increased in power with the release of flowers and petals with each attack.

SASAKI MAKIE  佐々木 まき絵
A fictional character from the manga series, Negima!: Magister Negi Magi, created by Ken Akamatsu. The 16th student in Japanese alphabetical order of class 2/3-A, she is the energetic (and rather childish) rhythmic gymnast and one of the more prominent of the Sports Girls in the class. Although interested in cute things such as teacher Negi Springfield, her encounters with him lead her to become connected to various magical and supernatural phenomenon without truly knowing anything going on. Her connections with Negi also drive her into occasional confrontations with fellow Negiholic Ayaka Yukihiro.

Character Design
With Negima, Ken Akamatsu was able to create new characters and modify many characters and ideas he originally created for previous works. Many characters were specifically created for this work, others (such as Asuna, Nodoka, Setsuna, Chisame and even Chizuru) are adaptations of previous ideas. However, sometimes a character is created for the project, but doesn't quite work out and has to be modified. Such is the case of Kozue Migara , the character Makie is derived from. Designed as "the lead heroine's (Asuna's) best friend", Kozue's purpose was to be a spunky, self-assured, confident female who would both be Asuna's friend as well as assist her along the way while having her own means of dealing with Negi. Her notable trait was being a girl who played lacrosse for Mahora.
Unfortunately, with the development of the series, Kozue's purpose slowly became obsolete and was removed. Konoka Konoe became Asuna's main best friend and roommate, a more relaxed personality that worked better in contrast. Likewise, her lacrosse abilities and some of her spunky personality were transferred to fellow classmate Sakurako Shiina. Yet from the mold of what remained of the original Kozue, the character known as Makie began to form. She was given an airheaded personality and a cuter appearance while her main athletic skill evolved into rhythmic gymnastics. By the time Makie was used for the series, she was significantly different from her original conception. The new character made a tremendous impact on readers. So much so that she easily won the first two popularity polls for the Negima! series before the depiction of other characters within the background of the manga and anime series took the spotlight.

Character Outline
Makie's greatest strength in ability is her athletics, particularly her abilities as a rhythmic gymnast. As a gymnast, her spirit is both the source of her strength and a significant weakness, as described by her coach, Ninomiya. Her training has given her superior reflexes and reaction time. But as amazing as her physical abilities are, Makie's mental abilities are lacking. Her test scores are the second lowest in the entire class and she is known as the "Baka Pink" of the infamous "Baka Rangers" (or Dummy Force in the FUNimation dub). Unlike many of the other Baka Rangers, which have other causes for their academic failings, Makie's weakness is solely due to her own airheadedness.
Since Makie is part of the rhythmic gymnastics team, she is also seen as member of the "Sports Girls", where she is friends and roommates with similarly athletically gifted students such as Yuna, Ako, and Akira. Early on, Makie is mostly seen alongside these girls and is a close friend to both Yuna and Ako. However, she also finds herself consistently paired off with Ayaka, who believes her as a rival for her own affections for teacher Negi. Unlike Ayaka's sisterly affection (with some underlying amorous intentions), Makie only thinks Negi's very cute, yet at the same time can recognize his maturity. Since she is several years older than him, she too believes this is more about being a big sister to her teacher instead of a romantic rival, yet she does get caught up in games and affairs to "win his heart," due to a fear that a girl who does get him might object to her wanting be friends with him. By chapter 288 however, Akira informs Negi that Makie's feelings have in fact become romantic.

Abilities
Gymnastic Abilities: While she is depicted a skilled rhythmic gymnast, she is particularly deft with the use of the ribbon, as she is seen most of the time holding this implement, whether in practice or in cases that do not need it. She even uses this ribbon as an extending arm, picking small things that are out of her reach. Several promotional materials and other scenes also show her expertise with the ball. It is unknown how she does with either of the three other implements in the sport: the clubs, rope and the hoop. Nonetheless, she won fourth place in a recent gymnastics competition before heading off with Ayaka's group to England.

Magical Ability: With Makie being able to perform the beginner's Fire Spell (chapter 212) and shrink and enlarge breast sizes (although It was in Yuna's dream/nightmare), there is a possibility that she has a talent for magic.
Pactio: Armatura Quinquiplex: Made with Negi in Chapter 289. Makie's Artifact is a set of five items.
Liberum Lemniscus is the name of ribbon. It has the ability to stretch to extraordinary lengths.
Bombus Globus is the name of the ball. When she throws it at a target, it creates a huge explosion.
Frango Stipes is the name of the set of juggling clubs. It seems to have the ability to multiply and float in the air. It can also increase in size and be used as a club.

Cleaving Ring

Capturing Rope

Plot Overview
Makie finds herself being an active member of Negi's class from the beginning due to the circumstances she finds herself in. Immediately a member of the Baka Rangers, she participates in the infamous Library Island journey where she is forced to use her rhythmic gymnastic abilities to help the rest survive. However, her membership in the "Sports Girls" makes Makie just as active in other episodes. But Makie's most important initial usage is as a tool by Evangeline A.K. McDowell as part of her own plan to attack her own teacher. As the first "puppet" of the vampire's squad, she eventually infects the rest of the Sports Girls and are used as Eva's loyal servants until Negi subsequently defeats them. Makie doesn't completely remember her time as Eva's puppet, but does have some residual effects.
During the trip to Kyoto, Makie takes part in the "Kiss Negi" game organized by Kazumi, initially teaming up with Yuna before her capture forces her to ally with Ayaka. The two of them do split ways and end up "kissing" Negi, but merely end up with one of his paper clones giving them both "failed Pactio." She spent the rest of the trip mostly with the rest of the Sports Girls.
After Kyoto, Makie spends some quality time with Negi on her own as both reach a crossroads in their own training. As Makie is preparing for another of her gymnastic tournaments, Negi is training with Kū Fei in preparation to be trained by Eva. As the two of them assist each other in athletic training, she comes to understand his determination in getting stronger, enough to block even Asuna from assisting Negi during the culmination of his trials in fighting Chachamaru.
As the Mahora festival comes around, Makie does her own thing with the class and with some of her friends and rivals. Her primary positions included assisting in the class haunted house as well as showing off during a performance of the rhythmic gymnastics club. Her rivalries with Ayaka particularly comes into focus: both tries to seduce Negi into their section of the haunted house (Negi ends up with Akira) and are both forced to team up to take on the "hidden costume contest" (eventually won by Chisame). During the final day, she, Ayaka and Chisame all come together once again to assist in the final "Mages vs. Mars" battle but in an unexpected way: sucked inside the local network by the web idol's new Pactio, Ayaka and Makie use their own power to transform into "real magical girls" to be the muscle against Chachamaru's invasive creatures while Chisame secures it from Chao's influence.
Initially, Makie had no knowledge or influence of Negi and the new "White Wing"'s trip to Wales to search for his father. However, Ayaka announces that she would be going to the United Kingdom separately, and Makie is included in her party. She is the first person to find Negi's group near Tower Bridge. After enjoying the hospitality of Nekane's home and touring Negi's hometown, she secretly follows Negi and the White Wing toward the gateway to the Magic World, along with the other sports girls and Natsumi. After passing through the gate, she and the other Sports Club girls are detained by the Magic Country security force. They are caught in the crossfire in the fight between Fate's group and Negi's. Things go from bad to worse when Fate manages to finally destroy the magical gateway, causing a massive explosion of displacement magic. She along with everyone else are now scattered across the magical world. It has been recently revealed that she and Yuna have gotten jobs as delivery girls for a tavern and have witnessed "Nagi Springfield" (Negi in disguise), take part in a fighting tournament. Unlike Ako, Akira and Natsumi, Makie and Yuna are not slaves, and are in fact being well treated by the customers. Recently, they have arrived in Ostia, and have been reunited with Ako and Akira.
During her stay in the Magic World, it is revealed that she is starting to learn magic as she is able to perform the beginner's Fire Spell. She also shrinks Yuna's breasts and enlarges her own (though it was shown in a dream Yuna had). In chapter 260, the Kiss Kiss Carnival mini-arc, Makie is shown plotting with Ako and Yuna to make Pactios with Negi. She finally gets a Pactio in chapter 289.
During Ala Alba's battle with Cosmo Entelechia, Makie along with other girls is forced into the battlefield by Dynamis, but manages to hold her own against Koyomi with Ako's doping. After the battle is over, she joins the group going to attack Fate, and successfully obtains the Great Grandmaster Key. Makie is later defeated and by Quintum, trying to slow him down to protect Natsumi, Nodoka and Asuna.

Epilogue
She, like the rest of the class, assists Negi in saving Nagi and defeating the Mage of the Beginning. After graduation from university, she became the physical education teacher at Mahora Middle School. While gaining the frenetic support of her male students, she is still focused on Negi. She looks forward to going up on the days off in order to meet with her friends and Negi.

Appearances in Other Media
Mahō Sensei Negima! (1st Anime)
Makie generally keeps her story connection, her airheadedness, and her involvement as a Baka Ranger in the first anime series. Her Pactio artifact in the final episode is a ribbon that she wields like a whip.

Negima!?
Because of her relative popularity compared to the three other Sports Girls, she is depicted to be separate from them and instead is associated with Ayaka, who is also her roommate in this incarnation. Her title of Sports Girl number 4 is transferred to classmate Misora Kasuga, a track-and-field runner mostly depicted in the manga as a nun-in-training. Her specific pairing with Ayaka is because, at the time of the airing of Negima!?, the manga was already chronicling the third day of the Mahora Festival, and Makie was with Ayaka most of the time, aiding Chisame against Chachamaru.
Like in all television adaptations of the manga, she is the first student seen implied to be victimized by Evangeline while jogging. But soon after her encounter, Takamichi is able to heal her bite wounds even before Evangeline is able to control her.
While Makie tries to keep her typical cute, optimistic approach, she is stuck as the butt of many jokes in this series, much to her chagrin.
Since she shares the room with the Negi-crazy class president, Makie at times wears garments with her teacher's likeness on it. She reasons that Ayaka won't recognize her as a classmate if she refuses to wear them. The blonde later consistently belittles her for her lack of drive, exclaiming that "she fails at being Makie Sasaki" and making her further depressed. Her depression is marked by turning herself white and holding her pose for an extended amount of time. In one instance, she is able to hold a yoga pose while being depressed for an entire day, while everyone else is busy stopping a giant Evangeline. She even contributes to a spell that binds an Anya possessed Evangeline while still in the shocked depressed state.
Her bad luck also carries over to the Baka Ranger shorts. Over the course of the various Omake, Makie (as "Baka Pink") fails to finish her speech, gets squashed by a giant robot, turned into a servant, gets buried alive and even gets turned into a monkey by Satomi. Even when Baka Pink tries to do something good it turns out wrong: using her ribbon to try and stop a time bomb set up by the enemy of the Baka Rangers, she ends up delivering it accidentally to them, blowing all of them up and temporarily killing them. A "trailer" for a Yukihiro Group-produced movie called "Yuke Yuke Baka Pink" is meant as her saving grace, but the movie itself is found not suitable for any audience (again as a reference to Ayaka and Makie's relationship).
Another unusual aspect of Makie in this series is her weird admiration of the frog-like character Motsu, whom she calls "father." She first becomes fixated with Motsu when she sees him sleeping in a convenience store cooler. Since then, whenever the two cross paths, Makie addresses him this way, even to the point of the frog accepting her as his "daughter." In the final episode, when Kazumi asks her why she calls Motsu "father," Makie shows her companions a photograph of her father and his dog, which has a resemblance to Motsu. She explains that she was young, whenever she came home and called out for her father, the dog was always the first to respond. Not wanting to make it look like a silly dog, she hence called it "father," a "name" passed to Motsu.
In the course of the series, only two of Makie's three Pactio forms are activated. In the "Suka incident," she turns into a monkey. In the final episode's Pactio invocation, she transforms into a blue-clad magical girl armed with a wand and a hoop (itself another tool in rhythmic gymnastics). Whatever powers she has, however, is unknown because she is busy accompanying Kazumi and Sayo around campus.
It is also of note that prior to obtaining her Pactio with Negi, she is among the second group of students possessed by a Dark Seed fairy that faced Negi and his seven partners.

Pactio Cards
Armatura Quinquiplex: Made with Negi in Chapter 289. Makie's Artifact is a set of five items, of which three have been explicitly shown in the manga as of chapter 302.
Liberum Lemniscus is the name of ribbon. It has the ability to stretch to extraordinary lengths. Makie used this item in chapter 302 to snatch Koyomi's artifact away, cancelling Negi's paralysis.
Bombus Globus is the name of the ball, which functions as a n explosive. Its abilities were shown in Chapter 349 when Makie flung it, along with the Frango Stipes, at Yue and Nodoka. It created a huge explosion that Yue blocked with magic.
Frango Stipes is the name of the set of juggling clubs. It seems to have the ability to multiply and float in the air. It can also increase in size.
Cleaving Ring
Capturing Rope

Negima!: Armatura Quinquiplex: A magic ribbon that she can wield like a whip

Monkey (She has a heart for a belly in this form, similar to Playful Heart Monkey of the Care Bears)

Dressed in a cute magical girl dress, she wields a star wand and a heart-decorated hula hoop (her magical powers were not revealed).

No Longer Human: She is dressed in a leotard and equipped with a ribbon which is slightly similar to her old pactio form in the older anime series. She has the ability to bend and stretch her body freely into any shape.
